New Literotica Story Page Feedback & Comments

Beta Trials

I would like to revert to the old format. This beta format does not impress me at all.

Please share your feedback on the new Literotica Story Page in this thread.

You can turn the new story page on or off at any time by using this option in your member control panel:
Options > My Options > Participate in early site feature versions beta-testing?
(Remember to click "Save" after updating.)

If you have a bug or issue to report, please share as much information as possible, including what browser you are using.

If you'd rather send information privately, you can use the Literotica Feedback Form anytime.

While we may not reply to every comment individually, we will read every single one.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback, bug reports, and suggestions! :D

Do you mean the "Back To Top" icon that moves down the right side of the screen as you scroll down the page?

You should be able to scroll that to any location on the page you want. If it is getting stuck on the Pagination, please let me know what type of device you are using and what browser and I'll look into it.

Thank you for the feedback! :D

yes, the back to top. normally when I get to the end of the page, I click on the next page button. I have managed to click the return to top button instead of the next page button.

I am using Chrome 79.0.3945.116 on Android 9 (Moto g7).

Where is the option to move that arrow. If I could move it to the middle of the page, that would be good.

You should be able to simply turn it off in your admin control panel in the same way you turned it on.

However, can you tell me why you don't like compared to the old version before you turn it off? It would be helpful for our work on the new story page.

Thank you! :D

Story width

Just spotted the change of width of story window. FANTASTIC.
With any luck I won't have to jump to reader mode on my browser for every page.

Thank you for the positive feedback, and very soon after the rollout too. :D

We can tweak the single column view more in the future to include more devices if needed. Please share any feedback you have on the changes and also let me know about any bugs or issues you might find.

Single column view

The single column view looks great! No more zooming or stretching! Thanks.

width of textarea

My biggest complaint with the old look continues with the new look: the width of the text area. On every screen (even my phone) the story takes up a tiny proportion of the width of the entire page.

While it is often more comfortable to read a narrower column of text, my phone for example will display about 25% text, and 75% striped background - exactly like my desktop.

This is a waste of screen real-estate, it makes my phone (Chrome on a Pixel 4 XL, in this case) unable to auto-zoom to the text, and it prevents chrome from reflowing the text to fit the screen or window.

I'm not sure what the best solution is, but a mediocre solution would be to allow - perhaps in the same set of text controls that now exists - changing the (HTML) width of the text.

Thank you for the detailed feedback and sorry about the issue. :D

I am looking at this part of your comment "75% striped background". The background of the new story page is not striped but white. Are you sure you're seeing the New BETA Story Page? Maybe it didn't get saved when you turned it on or there is some other problem with getting it activated?

I just did a test on a simulator using the Google Pixel 4 XL with Google Chrome and this is what I see:

Portrait
attachment.php

Landscape
attachment.php

We just rolled out an update that makes the page single column for more devices (to improve the reading experience for users on a tablet or using their phones in landscape mode).

Please let me know if you think you are seeing the new story page or the old one and thank you again for all of the details in your feedback. :D

I’ve been enjoying the new format for the most part. I do miss having safari reader view work properly by loading all the additional pages or even just loading the appropriate page without having to hit refresh on each new page. It got me wondering if there was a way to have a setting that we could enable that would allow all the pages/text for a story to be loaded all on page.

Word/Page count

I know I have been banging on about this but I just read a story of 19 pages. The info block said 69.8K Words. I'm sorry, 69.8K could be 10 pages, 20 pages or 50 pages. 10 pages I might read now, 19/20 pages I, were I pushed for time, would save the story in the newish read later folder. Thank you for that! With the new layout it is dead easy to do as there is a button at the top. It'd be nice if we could do it directly from the activity list (one less database hit fetching a story we won't read 'till later.)
Thanks for your forbearance.

'Reading Pleasure'

For the love of all that is holy: 'Reading pleasure'? Straight out of the book of bad marketing words and phrases. As bad as 'Due to <insert poor excuse here> reasons. All affronts to right reading gentlefolk.
Please fix this assault on my delicate sensibilities.
Plus a small suggestion: move the blob of text to after the formatting options and just put a header at the top. Maybe 'Formatting Options'?

s'pose I should put a lol here but it is too risable without the emphasis.

Has anyone had a problem with the search engine. I have tried on my laptop, iPhone, Ipad, but cannot go past the initial page. When I click on the gear symbol for more search options, nothing happens, the page does not change, no additional options appear, including the search by author. The only search I can do is by story name or content.

Yes, if you're using Explorer11. Same problem. Changed to Edge.

One Issue and One Enhancement

Issue: if you pick a change to the font size, and resize the screen to fill the space (using iPad & Safari) when you get to the voting stars, it doesn’t accept voting input unless you resizeback down and the scroll up and back. Thought that was a bit weird.

Enhancement: would like to be able to select +2 as my “default font size” in my profile instead of on every story.

Make font choices default

As far as I can see, I need to do this on each new story I pull up.

I'd prefer to set my settings as a default.

If you read back you will discover the font size settings being persisted is being worked on and will appear in a later iteration of the beta.

Hi there! I just wanted to pipe in and say that I’m really loving the new changes so far. I'm very pleased to hear that a dark mode is being worked on, and would particularly like to throw my support behind a "mark as read" feature. Thanks for all the great work!

Minor Comment

From time to time, a story will lose the formatting settings, eg Font, and fixing it involves going back to P1 then back again to the current reading position. Can't tell you why it happens except is associated with my being very tired and dropping the tablet and caching it again (sorry absolutely no help here) but I thought i'd report it in case it helps anywhere.
Does suggest it would be nice to be able to adjust these settings on the fly as reading conditions change.
I know you are looking at having these as base settings but it would be nice to override them on the fly: how are you persisting settings within a story? Cookie? It would be super cool if the currently active settings could persist through a story chain if linked to directly from the story status block.

Used on a Phone

I used my phone for the first time today, usually use an old Android opsys tablet, and on the phone the reading was magic: good job. But it amplifies my request for having text settings be device specific. I usually use +2 but that's too big for the phone which I used +1 on.
Thanks

Font size

I always increase the font size so I can read the story from a comfortable position away from the screen. Is it me, or is it not possible to save my choice of font size for use when looking at other stories? It is annoying having to chose the font size every time I start to read a story. Why isn't this a function in My Options? (I use Safari browser)

Just had an experience where I was not able to comment on a story. The system kept telling me the comment box was empty despite a probably 50 word comment sitting there. Reverted to the old format and it accepted it.

Microsoft Edge.

Sort of the sane here, no message though, just nothing happening when clicking the username button.

Pale Moon browser (based on Firefox, without the Chrome-ness)

I seem to have lost a lot of functionality after the last upgrade couple of days ago. I cannot now view tags, change font size, etc, nor can I rate a story.

I'm using safari on an iPad running iOS 10.3.3. Hope you can fix this soon!
