Bad new story - HELP!

I've managed to come up with a new story that is proving to be very unpopular ... it's being read but the votes definitely reflect that nobody likes it. It's had no public or private comments so I'm a bit at a loss as to why it is so bad (I have a feeling that it could be due to lack of build up and / or poor characterisation ).

BabyBlue, your link is broken, so you may just want to send people to your author's profile to select it for themselves.

Anyway, each person is so different that I can only guess at the (two) things that gave you low ratings. Your genre has a very narrow range of acceptance; compounded by your dark tone (which is your style, and it's good imo so don't change it). And then there is the fact that it is an unfinished piece. I know many post incomplete stories here, but as a serious reader (and not-so-serious writer) I would strongly suggest you not post the story on the main site until it is completed. Use an editor or bounce out ideas to the author boards, if you need to, but don't post the story as a completed submission when it is a work in progress.

These may just be personal preferences, but I see no other reasons why you would get low scores - your writing is elegant (though there are some subtle tweaks I could suggest to make it smoother, if you are interested) and your descriptions are lush.

Do not let the ratings worry you too much however; you are writing to share and grow, not to receive self-affirmation (right?).

I am relatively new to writing so any tweaks you could suggest would be very gratefully received

I am being a little sensitive about this story! I've received bad feedback before and dealt with it but this story was a little more personal so maybe I took it to heart more than I should have. I do agree that it could perhaps have been more complete. I was trying, and in this case failing, to give the story the same flow as an orgasm (2 fifths build up, 3 fifths foreplay, and 1 fifth actual event).

I haven't thought about using an editor, I might investigate that a little further

PS - It was so late last night that I forgot the most important comment of all. I was hoping that poor excuse for a boy did not get any, lol. Any guy who has that much trouble with a remote is a disgrace to the male half of the species. You might try reworking to make him less of a bumbler (so it would be more realistic; no reader is going to accept that he cannot work a remote). I'd suggest it already be turned up loud on the porn channel from the start, and him too shocked to change it before she stepped up and took the remote away.

Ich habe diesen Artikel Im Internet gelesen und ich entschied mich, dass mal auszuprobieren! Vor einigen Tagen habe ich die Zeitungen durchstöbert und stieß dabei auf einen Artikel, ähnlich wie diesen hier, der sagte, man kann tausende von Dollar innerhalb von ein paar Wochen verdienen. Einzige Bedingung ist eine Investition von €6.00 !!!Ich habe mir gedacht, das dass irgendein Scherzartikel ist und war, wie die meisten von uns wahrscheinlich, erst mal skeptisch und so las ich weiter. Auf jeden Fall stand da geschrieben, dass man €1.00 zu jedem der 6 Namen und Adressen, die im Artikel angegeben sind, senden soll. Dann setzt du deinen Namen an die 6te Stelle der Liste und postest den Artikel in mindestens 200 Newsgroups. (Es gibt tausende) Kein Haken, das war es. So, nachdem ich so drüber nachgedacht habe und ich es erst mal ein paar Leuten erzählt habe, spielte ich mit dem Gedanken, es auszuprobieren. Ich habe mir gedacht, was solls, was habe ich schon groß zu verlieren außer €6.00 und 6 Briefmarken? Schließlich gab ich dann die lächerlichen €6.00 aus. NUN RATET MAL!!!!

Innerhalb von 7 Tagen bekam ich Geld per Post! Ich war verblüfft!!! Ich habe mir gedacht, dass würde bald enden, aber es kam weiterhin Geld. In meiner ersten Woche habe ich ca. €25.00 verdient. Am Ende der zweiten Woche hatte ich dann schon insgesamt über €1.000,00 ! In der dritten Woche habe ich über €10.000,00 abgesahnt und es wurde noch mehr!! Dies ist nun meine vierte Woche und alles in allem habe ich etwa €42.000,00 verdient und es kommt weiterhin schnell mehr dazu!! Das alles mit nur €6.00 und 6 Briefmarken. (wird wohl auch bei uns legal sein, habe schließlich noch nichts Verbotenes darüber gehört. Warum auch?). Sende die Briefumschläge zu folgenden Adressen:

(#5) Silke Preuß, Rudolf-Breitscheid-Str.30 16359 Biesenthal, Germany
(#6) Sebastian Kunterding, Adalbertsteineg 257, 52066 Aachen, Germany

STUFE 2: Nun streich die #1 von der Liste die Du über oben siehst und rücke die anderen Namen nach (die sechste Nummer wird 5, 5 wird 4, usw...) und füge DEINEN Namen an die sechste Stelle in der Liste.
STUFE 3: Änder an diesem Artikel so wenig wie möglich, nur was wirklich sein muß. Er sollte möglichst original erhalten bleiben.
STUFE 4: Jetzt postest (also veröffentlichst) Du Deinen ergänzten Artikel in mindestens 200 Newsgroups. (Ich denke es gibt ungefähr 24.000) Alles was du brauchst sind 200, aber bedenke, je mehr du postest um so mehr Geld machst Du!

Das ist lückenlos gesetzmäßig! Wenn du irgendwelche Zweifel hast, dann schlag unter Titel 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 der Post Lotterie-gesetze nach. Behaltet eine Kopie von diesen Stufen und wann immer Ihr mal wieder Geld braucht, könnt Ihr das wieder und wieder verwenden. BITTE DENKT DARAN, dass der Erfolg dieses Programms auf der Ehrlichkeit und Aufrichtigkeit der Menschen basiert und deren gewissenhaften Befolgung der Regeln. Nur dadurch habt auch IHR was davon!!! STEP 1) Du musst nicht noch mal den ganzen Artikel schreiben für Dein eigenes Posting. Markier einfach den ganzen Text und wähle ‚Kopieren‘.
STEP 2) Öffne eine leere Notepad Textdatei und füge nun mit dem Befehl ‚Einfügen‘ den Text ein. Jetzt kannst Du Deinen Namen der Liste hinzufügen.
STEP 3) Speicher Deine Notepaddatei als Textdatei. Du kannst nun immer wieder darauf zurück greifen.
STEP 4) Benutz Netscape oder den Internet Explorer und suche nach verschieden Newsgroups (Online Foren, Massage Boards, Chat Seiten, Diskussionen.)
STEP 5) Besuch diese Massage Boards und poste diesen Artikel als eine neue Nachricht und hebe diese besonders hervor. Einfach den kopierten Text
einfügen. Schreib nun noch was interessantes in die Betreffzeile, dass es auffallend ist. (Es sollen ja möglichst viele lesen!) Klick auf den Post Message Button
und FERTIG bist du mit Deinem ersten Eintrag! Gratulation.... DAS IST ES!!! Alles was Du machen musst ist, von einer Newsgroup zur nächsten zu

I'm not sure it's really a romance category fit, which might lower the scores ( you might get the wrong audience), but I liked it, especially the use of dialogue to drive plot.
