I wish Canada would replant their lost forests with alder trees, so that if they burn again in my lifetime, I could at least smoke some fish. That spruce smoke was nasty.

Those are alder bushes, not trees. The green stuff you see on the mountainsides. Horrid to walk through.
 
Our snowpack is down to 7 inches. Normally early February is the longest period of sub-zero weather, but it could be above freezing this year.
