Not to worry, zuzub... I think I might be considered a little on the "extreme" side of sadism by some (many?). In a consensual D/s or S/M relationship, limits are often pushed, but only to a point that the PYL knows is acceptable to the pyl. Given your minimal experience, a PYL working with you likely would not get into the type of play exemplified by my AV for quite a while, unless you clearly communicated that that was what you wanted and could tolerate.
Most experienced members of the BDSM culture ascribe to either SSC (Safe, Sane, Consensual) or RACK (Risk Aware Consenual Kink); they're not just out there wildly flailing away with floggers, canes, crops, etc., to their heart's content, regardless of the wishes and needs of their partner(s).

True. I guess I got the feeling that the lifestyle can be so all encompassing that not much is happening on the work front. Really, a D/s lifestyle is probably no different from any other relationship - you do it 'til you don't wanna do it no more. I guess what creeped me out was the idea that other very important aspects of life might get neglected. Well, that and the fact that I don't really like being bossed around unless it's making me seriously hot. <grin>

I don't know. Sometimes it just pisses me off that women get stuck holding the bag so often, you know? Maybe I'm a little over zealous in that dept.

Both of us work. My submissive does 40+ hours, very strenuous, outside the home, and I have a creative profession that requires very long days of sales, making stuff, and promotion online. There's still a pervasive and consistent dynamic, even if he's not naked and caged all day long. It would be cool, but homelessness and hunger aren't my kink.

I think we all have to navigate this society, and for the majority of people income streams, dual incomes, skillz and all that come into play.

There's private life, which is more than just "the bedroom" and then there's public life. My preference is for D/s to extend throughout my private life, but less so into my public life. (I don't want to be in charge of people at work or run for office or anything like that.)

From what I've read, they require an awfully skilled hand, and even the lightest hits are beyond wicked (there's the wack of the initial impact, then the sting, then the burn), plus anywhere the striped cross, it will break the skin. Those are cane stripes; unfortunately, they're not my work They're cropped from a pic on a commercial site I frequent. I have created similar patterns, however - just didn't have a camera on hand at the time, damnit!
