Oh... photos

Let me get through this project and then I'll worry about modifying any of it. It's daunting enough trying to figure out how many rings I'm going to need and how much it's going to cost without also trying to figure out how to put the holes in it.

Of course... the less there is to it the faster it will be made... >.> Choices choices

Fuck. That is all.

:nana::nana::nana:

True. But I have to make the whole thing before I can start figuring out how to leave out of the nipple section. Believe me, I've been researching this for a while. ;)

Seeing a woman wear battle gear that gives the impression of armor, but still exposes much of her beautiful body is the stuff of fantasy comic books. Making something that is very brief and sexy would work well, as would making something that highlights the breasts and nipples. I don't know how hard it is to make something with a sexy shape and perhaps with nipple openings. I'm sure you'll come up with something that looks good.

Brings to mind Boris, Royo, Bell.....some of the great ones:D

It's not so much difficult to put the holes in the piece as it is to get the positioned right and make sure they're uniform and what not. If I'm going to make it, I'm going to do it right. A solid piece is good practice and once I get the hang of it, I can experiment. Don't get me wrong, there are a few designs I've had in mind that don't cover much of anything, but getting the sizing right so they still support me is the difficult part.

So a full bra will be practice for the naughtier stuff. ;)

And if you want armor-like, I'm going to have to start working with more scales...

I like the way you think! :D

Making a solid, but skimpy, piece sounds like a good way to approach it for your first piece.

For one with holes in it, if you can make the holes the right size and shape, then the trick would be to be able to adjust the position of the metal fabric so that the holes are in the right spot. Having the ability to adjust their position either by having removable links, or perhaps by having some non-metallic adjustible silver colored straps behind your neck and back might work.

When I said "armor-like" I didn't mean armor plates, I think metal fabric that is shaped to your body would be very sexy.

And when I say scales, I don't mean plate armor. I don't have the equipment for that kind of stuff. Think like snake scales, only metal and about an inch long. They add a good detail to stuff. Google "scalemaille" since my links to things don't seem to work well...

For a bikini top, the straps will not be connected with maille connections. I'll use ribbons or something. That way it's adjustable.

And I can make it solid without the holes, just adjust the aspect ratio on the E4-1 sections to be "gappier" and it'll show plenty. ;)

Whoohoo!!!

When will you start making it?

I have to figure out how many rings I'll need and stuff, and then order them. The best suppliers are either in Canada and take forever for cheap shipping, or are in California. The Cali supplier doesn't sell EPDM rings... so yeah. But I should have it done by summer.*

*summer is relative. My summer starts much earlier than much of the northern hemisphere.

Oh shush:p lol

I'm not kidding. Y'all are all happy about spring and temps in the 60s and shit. We've had three days straight in the 80s. Summer starts the first week we have of solid 90s temps. Should be any week now... But I won't have it done that fast.

Do those places have design information to help you?

I know that:caning:

M.A.I.L. does. I've been looking since this started coming up. Really, it seems to be trial and error on the triangles. Once I get one cup right, I just have to do the other one the same. So I'll have to keep track of how many rings I use...

Sounds like a construction project!

Are you an engineer per chance?

This "outfit" (?) has potential to be very interesting. I know I will be keeping an eye as summer arrives next week. Yes I saw your previous post. Just a joe as I too share your weather conditions.

Nope. Just an ordinary worker bee. But all chainmaille is a construction project to a point. I just happen to work more on the micro side of things than the "normal" spectrum.

I just checked out M.A.I.L.

They have some really nice weaves.

M.A.I.L. is awesome in terms of info and tutorials. RingLord forum is good, too, and it's attached to one of the biggest suppliers.

I can see how people could really get in to this.

I hadn't heard about it before.

If you ever wanted to try (because I'm all for throwing my addictions at others and trying to get them hooked) I recommend TRL as a supplier because they have the best prices, even with shipping times and costs; cheap pliers from your local hardware store that you can file the teeth down on, or find some electricians pliers without teeth; and CGMail.com for some amazing rendered tutorials along with some pretty good aspect ratio information for each weave.

And how do people enjoy this addiction? Do they wear it in public? Do they meet together at conventions? Do they show it off at Renaissance festivals?

They enjoy it in many ways. Mostly we're online on forums like M.A.I.L. and TRL. RenFests are a good place to see maille, but only the big players can afford to show their mad mailling skillz there. There are regional gatherings and such, and of course all the conferences will attract some. DragonCon is a big one.

But really, it's a calming hobby to most. It's something to do to wind down after work. Some people soak in hot baths, some people get massages, and some of us make chainmaille. ;)
