OOC/Casting The Third Great War

I didn't want to thwo light sabers or ratehr plasma and force blades ouyr there yet. Vibro blades are a step down from them. They actual knifes or swords, they have a battery that lasts for a good 12 hours of use and a switch to activate. While active they vibrate the blade very rapidly more or less this vibrating uses sound and vibrations to aid in cuting. Very effective at close range as it cuts threw armor very quickly. The size of the blade depends on the type. The typical soldier would probably have a large knife.

Pooh you'll notice I titled it the third great war. I was avoiding WW3, but essentailly thats what it is.

I almost forgot to put up a IC thread. How'd that happen?

Here is my character.

Name: Luther "Red Devil" Jackson
Rank: Master Segeant (1e)
Affiliation: DCP
Age: 35
Appearance: Luther is 6'2", 180 lbs, and very muscular. He has brown eyes and dark brown hair.

History: Luther was born in NYC into a military-tradition family. His father, uncles, and grandfathers were all in the military, in various branches, so it was no surprise when he joined the DCP miltary academy right out of high school. His sharp eye and quck reflexes were put to use as a starfighter pilot. heflew many dangerous missions and quickly gained recognition for his courage under fire. After a few years, he was put in command of Omega Squadron, an elite group of pilots with 10 other members. Under his command, Omega Squadron has flown many dangerous and important missions, with very few casualities.

Luther has a wife, Janet, 34, and two children, Jason, 10, and Kelise, 7. They live in a house on the base where Luther is stationed on Mars. Janet teaches elementary school children on base.

I hope this is okay, cats.

Damnit Damnit Damnit Damnit Damnit!!!!
I want a light saber!
And I'll get one too. We have lasers, we have swords. All I need to do is make them have sex with each other...
Yes, it's all coming together now.
The first light saber will be born nine months from today.

Mark my words, before this third war is over, a light saber like weapon will be mine!!!! IT WILL BE MINE!!!

Here is a site we might find useful.

http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/atlas/index.html

I propose that the DCP forces occupy the northernn hemisphere of Mars and the smaller moon (Deimos), and that the UP controls the southern hemisphere and the larger moon (Phobos). The UPs main base in in the Hellas Planitia basin. The contested border area where most of the fighting is going on is the huge Mariner valley, which divides the planet north and south along one half of it's surface.

Cats, I was planning on keeping Admiral Guo on Earth and making him deal with the communications lag. That would mean I'd come up with some rank 2 and 3 types who are actually on Mars or in orbit.

But, if you prefer, the Admiral is on board the UPS Confucius, on it's way to Mars.

I see the UP forces having two flagships, the Confucius and the Mao (which remains in Earth orbit for now). There are many other spacecraft, of course, all designated with Dragon classes:
Gold Dragon (battleship, only a few of these)
Red Dragon (destroyer)
Blue Dragon (carriers, transports, medical frigates, etc)
Black Dragon (stealth fighter)
White Dragon (fighter - most common)

Ground and air forces will have animal designations from the Chinese Zodiac.
Rat (Infantry, like Farren)
Ram (Heavy tanks)
Tiger (Elite mech commandos)
Monkey (Hacker / infiltrators)
etc. I'll come up with more, but anyone who's joining the UP forces, feel free to continue the analogy

Sounds fine swamp, I would like to keep the moons out of the battle for now. So lets say each side controls not all but a majority of the perspective moons. (By not all I mean some ground is neutral or corporate own. UP and DCP do not share ground on a single moon.) We can work them in latter when things or slightly more established.

I was just making sure you were aware of the communication gap. If you plan to deal with it and work threw twos and threes, that is perfectly fine.

Kamal your character is fine. Keep in mind that he does have a commanding officer on the base or spaceship he is stationed at. Although he is safe enough to flip off ranks 10, 9 and 8.

Pooh... if you want a light saber so bad... your going to have to get the laser and sword really drunk. Otherwise it's not going to work.

I just realized something: the UP is just a bunch of angry, misunderstood delivery-men. Just look: the UPS Confucius.

Regular Tank: Horse
Light Tank: Snake
Medium Mech: Boar
Light Mech: Cock(get your minds out of the gutter)

Bombers: Green Dragon

Xelebes. I appreciate the help, but could you tone down controlling my characters a little bit. Farren was just a scared soldier fighting for his life, and now he's some sort of war torn hero who knows what to do.
I wanted him more naive and inexperienced as I started out. If you want to react with other characters, then make some of your own up. You could have a whole gang of them inside a single infantry unit.
That's why I made Robbie. Someone Farren can interact with and such. I like the fact that you want to join up and make them friends, but don't control my characters.
I'll make you a deal. You don't control mine, and I won't control yours.

sorry all that ive been out,but now im back yeah!^.^
to answer ur question of what side im on will be...
DCP

yay people are actually on!usually every 1 posts liek 9 or 10 times except me then im the only one posting lol

Yikes. I know I haven't posted IC at all yet (I'm going to tonight, really), but Evil Attorney, please don't write both sides of a battle like that. I'd prefer you write your own ships' moves, and then give me, and anyone else on the UP side, time to respond.

As it is, you scripted what seems like a major victory for yourself with no chance of the other side retaliating, they conveniently did exactly as you had planned, and while you had new advanced weaponry, they had nothing effective. According to your plan (which was interesting), the UP forces on Mars are now cut off from reinforcements and supplies, and you now have some kind of infiltration codes, all in one post.

We're not going to get drama, or strategy, working like that.

Cats, could I get an uber-GM call from you here? How do you see this thread working, and what is my role as a co-GM? If this were my thread, I'd ask EA to edit, but I don't know if that's out of line for me here.

Sorry, I didn't mean to do that...

I also didn't think it was a major victory either. It was just a convoy getting popped. Their are always lots more convoys coming, this was just one that I happened to have intel on to jump.

The infantry get to kill someone right off, why can't the Navy?

I didn't think they are crippled badly. People will be eating canned food for a while and some supplies will get thin, but its not like other things would not get through.

Ok, I'll let other people have a chance to respond in the future, but something needed to be killed.

Sometimes though, things do go as planned, and people walk right into your trap.

As the the infiltration codes, Thats just what everything would broadcast, like airplane transponders. I just had them recorded so someone would be able to look casualy and say "yup, that out people...why arent they responding correctly? is their a problem...wonder what happened... and why the hell don't those fucking freighters get on the right course for unloading...they seem to be coming directly at us....OH SHIT!!!!!"

I guess I should remove the part about turning the freighters into guided missiles loaded with the chinese's own nukes...:)

Reguarding the weapons, I assume that the chinese will have similar weapons, although not as good, as earlier in this thread it was stated that the UP had numbers and the DCP uses technical support to offset the numbers.

Thats the basis on which I planned out the ship. Lighter on firepower, heavy on computer support.

Its not any better than anything in space, its just a smaller/midsize ship with an outsized electronics department.

Its "ton for ton better" than things in its own class with electronics, meaning that if you put a X ton chinese ship massing the same as mine, I have more EW than it does, but lots less firepower.

Its not meant to invulnerable to something larger than it like heavier units with equal amount of technical support. They would not be effected the same way as the destroyer was, they would kinda blink, say "Humm...thats a lot of EW for something so small...lets see how she likes our EW right back at her, plus a whole shitpot of our missiles..."

Did I kill me a destroyer with the EW? Oh yeah, thats what happens when you slam a light ship with a jamming system that belongs on a much larger warship.

Yes, meant to stomp lighter ships like a frigate or a destroyer into paste. That way you have to either ignore it, or send something substantial after me, in which case I'm going to get into something thats going to be really bad for my health, but then again, thats part 2 of the mission. Lure off heavy ships you need elsewere.

I'm not supposed to win, I'm supposed to be the useful decoy which might hopefuly survive...or not.

If you would like me to edit or tone things down, what would you suggest to make things more interesting?

This thread is moving much faster then I thought.

Morgoth please make sure you title your posts with which character your using.

Evil I'm going to need you to cut back on posts a bit. Do a post and then wait for another player to reply before posting again please.

I also agree with Swamp. It's bad to move some one else character, NPC on the UP side are more or less Swamps character it is her job to post their reactions and I will do like wise for the DCP.

As for using nukes, they are out of the question, if they were to be used the war would become very serious and fighting would likely start on earth, and all other locations that have both the DCP and UP. Your character would most certainly not be were he is if he used nukes so recklessly. Also I didn't mention the antimatter cannon you brought into the thread because you said it was on the other model of the ship, a weapon like that should not appear in this thread.

Please edit your posts. Also keep in mind your ships had shut off IFF to avoid detection before attacking. That more or less is giving up use of guided missiles, then enemy's could still use their against you but using your own would likely result in hitting some of your own ships. Also getting the codes that easily seems very unlikely, please remove them.

Swamp your job here is to handle situations like what would happen if EA's attack works, keep in mind that is up to you and EA. If that plan works it would be your job to make sure every one on your side acts with it, less ammo food or what ever was in that particular caravan of ships. At this point the pinch might not even be that much, Mars is a well developed place with factories and farms of it's own, very little of which has been damaged so far.

A second piece of your job really doesn't matter yet, and I'm still working on the basic details. It is to represent intelligence, if some one wants to introduce a more advanced tank design that just came out of production, they should go to you. Use your judgment to see if it is in budget, something that has a thick layer of laminate armor, twin heavy x-ray lasers, missile launchers with extra ammo, (As apposed to single shot which is much cheaper and smaller,) the latest in ECM, etc. should not be approved. Any how ideally when we start getting details like that and are in between battles we should send a few things to each other. From their PM it to some of your side. If info leaks threw that we are going to have a major offensive on this date new the north pole of mars tell a few players you want there. So after this first battle ends your job will also include intelligence.

If they aren't using nukes for deep space fights ship to ship, what would they be using?

I realise that nuking a planet would kinda end things fast, but in deep space what else can you use for a warhead? If their isn't anything around or in the radius of the explosion, its just a light show.

RE the IFF's being shut off, I would say that wouldn't matter for 2 reasons.

First of which is that I'm here, and the missiles are all going >>>> that way, so I'm behind the seaker heads and they arent even going to see me. Its not a dogfight, its a long range missile ambush.

Second, The software would have to have software which says "no exploding within X kilometers of my ship". Nobody wants to eat their own explosion.

I will edit as you have suggested, and I wont jump sides anymore. I'll also kill the "infiltration" codes.

Thanks, EA. Sorry to be so harsh, but I aim for fairness.

Good point about the infantry describing lots of kills. Describing kills, taking out individual units, is all good. Especially if you describe some losses on both sides. But taking territory, or other significant assets (codes, large ships, etc.) should be left to Cats or myself.

Your not being harsh.

What counts as a major kill?

Something light like an individual freigher? Something like a light escort guarding the convoy?

Give me a guide as to who and what I can kill with relative impuny.

Yeah, go ahead and take out light escorts. On the UP side, I'd consider anything up to destroyer (Red Dragon) to be killable. But destroyers should be considered major kills, and shouldn't be easy to take out.

Battleships and flagships are effectively characters themselves, because there are so few of them.

I'm glad the arguing is over.

As far as nukes are concerned space is very little different from a world. A nuke can take out almost any ship in one hit, for balance it's not a good idea. Missiles are a guided weapon with sufficient power and excellent range, if they are nuclear war heads that can destroy almost any ship with one hit all other weapons become pointless. As far as damage this is in the future, you can safely assume that they have a chemical war heads that function properly in space and give a sufficient punch with some bast damage.

Any how I think you for editing.

Morgoth thank you for titleing your posts, it makes it much easier to tell which character is speaking.

Swamp I'm glad you understand the second GM set up.

Alec Garwood

Name: Alec Carter
Age: 23
Association: DCP
Rank:something, low hopefully just infantry (5e)
Appearance: young black man, with a defined body, about 6'0, very avg. looking except for the numerous scars on the left side of his face

History: Alec was born and raised on earth, and had never had any experience anywhere but earth. Both his parents died in an accident when he was fifteen, he was sent to live with an aunt and uncle who accepted him lovingly but couldn't afford a child. Alec became reclusive and never had many friends. He was looked at as an outcast and on one fateful night he was jumped by a group of drunk men who slashed him in the face leaving rather horrid scars on his otherwise plain face. This only furthered his reclusivness and he simply drifted through life until he got word of the war and enlisted merely because he needed direction in his life.

His only relative or friend who remains is his aunt: Patricia Carter

I hope this is alright, im willing to change it if neccessary
