Okay! We are on our way! I have posted in the thread in order to get us out of the city and on our way. Angelious, we are now fair game for whatever evil you can throw at us...if he is still around (which I hope he is). Let the game begin!
Sorry people.... just been busy with a lot of other things that have totally taken up my time. I will post as soon as possible although I will make it totally unexpected.
Is okay Angelius, just happy to have you still with us.
Okay, everyone, an idea has been put out through postings about us having abilities of other chars that we have played in the game. I dont think this would be a good idea as it can get quite messy and confusing so if I can have everyone stick with the abilities of their chars I would much appreciate it.
Hotstuff, I asked Neale to look it up but I would think that a monk would have something to help him do what you did with the horse. They are into controling the mind and body with meditations. He said he would so look on here for his post.
So far great postings. I love the role playing going on and we will be getting the flock out of the city very, very soon.
It seems that under the 'official' 3rd edition rules, monks can't do that... UNLESS! They also have a level or more in either Ranger or Druid. It turns out that having multiple classes is pretty easy in 3rd edition. The most logical explanation for Kiai's ability to calm that horse would be that, at some point, he must have had some Ranger training, enabling him to get the skill, Animal Empathy. This would also explain his ability to use a sword, a weapon not common amongst monks.
If anyone wishes to employ the 3rd edition rules, and say that their character is cross-trained, that would be fine. Please remember, however, that level 14 is absolutely as high level as we are using, for now. This means that a multiclass character's levels cannot add together to more than 14. For example, if someone's level 12 rogue wanted to claim fighter ability, as well, only as many as 2 levels could be so claimed.
We aren't trying to limit anyone's creativity by using the 3rd edition rules. However, it does make it easier on us when we have a good idea of the capabilities of your characters. That way, we can throw reasonable challenges your way!
um, i can change that whole thing if u want... truth is, ive got my longign to use my Samurai! hehe... Monk was cloest i could get... Samurais are just fighters with sum bonuses and a few hinderances... (for anyone thats played Baldur' Gate 2, almost exactly a Kensai) I was just thinking animal Training and suff, as proficiencies from AD&D.
You don't need to change anything. In fact, if you wanted to change your ooc:character description to be a samurai-type, I don't think that would be a problem. It wouldn't change your ic stuff at all. You could be a multi-class Samurai(Fighter)/Monk. Perhaps 9thSam/5thMonk? Do you have access to the gaming materials, or would you like me to post what some of your groovier abilities would be?
Well i know all of my Samurai stuff, but as for a monk, i have no clue! hehe, cause ive played a samurai before (lots of fun when evil, and when good.) Monk would be kewl though ^_^
Grasshopper, you should see the 3rd edition changes... very, very nice. You'd need the Players Handbook, and the supplement to it, called Sword and Fist. Together, they give you all the rules you need to handle a Samurai with Monk abilities, or vice versa.
I just snagged "Defenders of the Faith" and "Sword and Fist" at my local comics shop, and the feats in those books rock! I may have to change Kyle a little bit, He's more of a "Justice Blade"-type from "Defenders". 14 is the top level, huh? oops. I'll rework him.. uhm, HER, and post the revised version soon. Isolde and Imoen do, after all, need the best possible info to keep things interesting....
Detect Evil, Lay on Hands (42pts/day), Divine Health, Aura of Courage (allies within 10' gain +4 to saves vs. fear, and Kyle is immune to it), Smite Evil (+3 to hit, +14 damage, 2x/day: See Feats, below), Remove Disease (4/week), Turn Undead (6/day, Turn Check +3, turns as lvl 12 cleric)
Feats:
Exotic Weapon (Bastard Sword), Weapon Focus (Bastard Sword), Power Attack (up to +14 damage), Cleave, Extra Smiting (1 extra smite/day), Divine Might (Add Charisma bonus to damage for a number of rounds equal to Charisma modifier. In this case +3 for 3 rounds. Uses one turn undead attempt.)

Also gains a +2 Synergy Bonus to bind a captive with rope from Escape Artist)

This is news to me. Is it a new 3D supplement? I'm heading to store right now! Sounds great.
Thanks for the groovy, full write-up on your char.
HOWEVER!!! (Everyone Else Please don't feel that you have to follow suit. When those of us who actually play D&D post our char's stats, it is basically just us showing off. We aren't really using any of that in the thread.
(Still... If you can post such stuff, I, personally, will really get a kick out of it, irrelevant or not.
When my first swing on an evil foe can be +11 to attack, with a non-critical hit damage range of 39-49, while keeping my AC 20, I'm just bragging.
and we *do* get a charge out of reading each others' arse-kickers.
Enjoying the "Defenders of the Faith" book, Neale? I'm just glad it finally gave me an excuse to not play a noble, chivalrous, pike-staff-up-the-arse Stereotypical Paladin, and can be the gutter-mouthed footsoldier in the war between Good and Evil. And it helps to know I can make it stick when I tell someone I'm going to knock their teeth so far down their throat, they'll be able to chew their own arse out for aggravating me....
"Defenders of the Faith" Is a 3rd Ed. book. It's the little extras book for Clerics And Paladins. I got the "Extra Smiting" and "Divine Strength" feats from it. There's a lot of really cool stuff in there. as you're playing a Cleric here, and I assume it's a character you use in Paper & Dice as well, I highly recommend it. I'm not sure when it came out, probably last week, I think.
Do you have a direct pipeline to TSR or WOC? Nobody has even heard of it here, in the backwater of Chapel Hill, NC. If I have to order this from Amazon, I will, but I have GOT to have it! *drooldrool*
As I read in a story once, and I just love the imagery, "if God were to give the world an enema, this place is where he'd stick the nozzle".
Seriously, Syracuse is just another slowly dying rust belt town, off the beaten track, unless you're beating a track away from it. It hurts to see my home town falling apart like this, but so far we only have the third most polluted lake in the world to our name. (At least, I think it's third. I know it's in the top five.)
Onondaga Lake.
In the summer, we Syracusans can accurately judge the temperature by the stench wafting off that lake. You'll notice that at no point did I accuse it of being water.
So you'll forgive my surprise that there are parts of this country where things arrive even later than here.
Oh, yes, our Common Council okayed a plan to expand a mall on that very lake front. This proposed expansion would make the Carousel Center the third largest shopping mall on the North American Continent. It might even be a tourist draw, if they can find a way to fund the aquarium they're talking about. That'll help the economy around here.
feh.
Sorry to post so far off-topic, but it should be coming soon, Neale, and if it doesn't, The ISBN is:0-7869-1840-3.
Here ya go. I bumped it to the top, to make it easier for you to find. Welcome aboard! (Unless, of course, you had some plans to have your magic user type person be a planes walking person from some other magic world. That would be bad.)

I am going to assume you are familiar with D&D and the Forgotten Realms setting, specifically. If not, let me know here or via email, and I'll bring you up to speed.
The parts of this thread you might not have noticed are summarized here:
Most of the party members are students from our world, magically tranported to the Realms. However, all new players are native characters from the Realms. Therefore, your guy is a native elven wizard, of approximately 13th level. If you are willing and able to do so, feel free to post a full character sheet for him in this thread. So far, only a few of have bothered, which is fine. We aren't sticking so closely to the official rules as to require char sheets.
