OOC: Portal to Adventure

Hey np, Spectre...we just got confuzed is all. Now that you explained we can go on and know where all of us are headed. I am going to have Val be the first to notice you and dont take what she is going to do in offense...it is quite reasonable in her position...just play along...and again, welcome!

still standing by :)

Since most of you haven't seen it yet, here is a brief description of my character for when my introduction comes:

Alyar Silverwing

Silver elf Fighter L6/Sorcerer L7 (this is a 13th-level multi-classed character by 3rd edition D&D standards: somewhat different from earlier editions, if you were familiar with those), Str 15, Int 16, Wis 11, Dex 19, Con 11, Cha 18, Chaotic Good.

Alyar is fairly quiet, but his appearance makes him stand out in almost any crowd. He is about 5'8" tall, with pale skin, eyes the grey of storm clouds, and fine, jet-black hair cut in a wide mohawk. He has the expected ethereal features and physical grace of the elves, tempered with the corded muscles, callouses, and scars of a veteran warrior. He wears well-worn but finely crafted leather breeches and doublet, highly tooled soft leather boots, and a sealskin cloak when the weather warrants. He appears to wear no armor except a pair of ornate forearm bracers of an ancient style. The only weapon he carries is a bastard sword with a gold-wrapped grip and amber-studded pommel and guard, in a tooled leather scabbard and baldric. He carries his blade with him everywhere, even hanging he baldric over the back of his chair at formal dinners.

Looking forward to joining in, as soon as the ladies are ready to introduce me.

stats and gear, if anyone cares

Kyle Blackbyrne, Human Paladin (2nd edition rules, haven't converted him/her yet, and I finally got Chris to explain the belt.)
St: 17*, Dex: 14, Con: 16, Int: 11, Wis: 14, Cha: 17

Armor: Chain and Plate: base AC 3 (0 when she uses her shield+2)

Weapon: Bastard sword +3, defender. The only other wierd thing about it is that it's made of a semi-transparent metal that glows in colors keyed to the alignments (i.e. green for Lawful Good, blue for Neutral Good, violet for Chaotic Good, yellow for Lawful Neutral, white for True Neutral, and red for Chaotic Neutral. The evil alignments just turn it flat black. This "Detect Alignment" only works when someone weilds it.)

Belt: This is the *real* screwball item. It works as a one-shot-only girdle of masculinity/femininity, then its curse is depleted. Afterward, it acts as girdle of storm giant strength, bestowing a strength 25 on its wearer. It only works for the poor sap it gender-swaps, and only if they're in the gender opposite their birth gender. (Guess Chris *really* wanted me to play a female....)

I must also beg RL forgiveness for in-character bitchiness. Just seemed appropriate to the situation.
Thanks for being a sport, Spec! Hang in there, bubba.

Still here!!!!!1

I', still around, last three nights I've been playing in the theatre, but that's all over now and now am all yours again!

Love...
Toku

Angelius!!!!

Look for the next set up to your char in the Michelle post on the thread. Thanks for your patience.

And Spectre...love your posts and you play along with this situation sooo well...much appreciated.

Paladins

Heh. Quote from "The Paladin Way" by Artemus Cole:

"....always start out on the level, and work quickly to make friends. Depending on the group, this may involve anything from, "Hello, my name is....." to kicking someone's arse so hard he can wear it as earmuffs. Always be sure to judge the group rightly though. A little humor goes a long way toward amicable relations."

Or, as is demonstrated in the thread, can be a *great* way to lose friends and alienate people. *chuckle*

Just so no one's confused, I'm having a great time so far in this thread! Just keep me in situations to react to, and I promise I'll do my best to entertain!

:) Well yep I dont usually read these role playing threads, well because im lazy. but because one of my best friends is the all mighty in this Portal to Adventure one I gotta peak my head in from time to time. hehe.
Its doing good everyone keep it up so i can get my daily readin done, my edjumcation aint so good. :D

hey there, i just wanted to let you know that i am gonna have to drop out of the thread. just cant keep up with you guys, but you are doing great, so have fun.

Well.....

Well, that's two posts of mine completely ignored. If ya don't want me in the post, just let me know. I'll post again as soon as I have someone or something to react to. IC bitchiness is even an acceptable alternative to the cold shoulder. I'd like to be part of the post, but I'll accept an "F-off" if that's the message everyone's trying to send me......

wait a minute...you asked about what was going on and Val is explaining to the lady...I assumed you would be listening as was everyone else...I figured if I explained to her...you would jump in with questions and Val could answer

Mea culpa!

I am sorry, Spec. I didn't realize that you were addressing anyone in particular with your posts. Up to armpit-level with some nasty code-writing, so I don't really have time to do a proper post tonight, but I will tomorrow night. I promise we aren't intentionally ignoring you! Please just give us a little RL time to get heads straight?

Posting

Actually, I *wasn't* addressing anyone in particular, But Kyle was asking questions, and trying to apologise for the smart-alec remark about bending Valencia's sword into a horse-shoe. Kyle's too polite to interrupt Valencia's chat with the Lady, and I figured if I kept the posts open to *Anyone* in the party to respond, it might draw out some of the.... less prolific posters on the thread. oh, yeah.. and the second post *did* have a perfect segue into explaining this mess to Kyle.... I was just getting nervous that I might be too pushy in the main thread, so I figured I'd fish for answers over here...

You *definitely* have time, I'm loving this thread so far, I just didn't want this thing to boil down to a Valencia/Alia studiously ignore Kyle thread, with no-one else throwing their two-bits in. (I know, it used to be two-cents, but with inflation and all....)

Forgetting Spectre.....

Not my intention Spectre, but sorry nevertheless. Hope you'll stay with us!

Hey all... apologies for not posting recently, but my 'puters been giving me some jip (slightly understated)... I'm back now though and hopefully (touch wood) the new graphics card in my computer will work properly.

the preceding is a link to the official D&D webpage. Specifically, it is a link to the part of that website where you can download - FREE - a veryveryvery cool character generator. Anyone who installs this will be able to use it to make whatever kind of character, at whatever level, they want. I've already used to make mine and Toku's. Anybody who wants me to make one for them, you have but to ask. Unfortunately, the files it creates for characters are in some whacked-out format that only that program can read, so I can only send you a file that it can read.

Don't worry about the weird appearing link above. I just tested it, and despite its appearance, it does take you straight to the site. Just click on the blue 'Here' to the left of where it says Download the Character Generator 1.2

Be warned, it is a 10 megabyte download, so it will take a WHILE to download over a normal modem. All of you lucky **&&%%$**'s who have DSL or cable, well, enjoy it, dammit!

Conversions

Okay, HotStuff, it's really not that hard to convert, as the rules didn't change all THAT much. Your best bet, however, if you don't have access to the new rule books, is to use the link I provided in the previous post. That way, I can work you up a character and email the file to you. If you want to figure out how to work the software on your own, it isn't that hard. You want to use the level up option to get your character to the level 12-14 range recommended by the lovely lady DMs at the beginning of the thread. You can also manually increase any of your stats, in the event that you can't manage to match your rolls with the random stat generator built into the software. Any questions you may have, please feel free to email me.

The generator doesn't specifically offer Samurai as an option, however, so you'd have to figure out how to duplicate a Samurai's abilities using the stuff that is available. I've looked at it, and it seems doable.

I recently bought the Sword and Fist rulebook. It includes a Master Samurai prestige class, which looks quite cool.

Yeah, it is pretty impressive. The 3rd edition supplemental material is great! Unfortunately, the generator doesn't fully implement all that new stuff. Still, it is very handy for anyone who hasn't the desire to buy the actual books.

Sorry the post has been dragging. Imoen is going to post for the lady tomorrow..she promises and then we can get this going again. The poor girl has been working twelve hour shifts IRL and is pretty much dead when she gets home.

The Portal thread has come to life again and is ready for you all to post. I appreciate your patience and assure you that we are about to leave the city and start adventuring.

Who needs to leave?

Who needs to leave? eheh i liek my current 'position' (referign to the match with Valencia) hehehehe ^_^
