Overly critical feedback from non-authors

I'm so glad I'm not the only one in this situation. I've only written two stories (back in May) and am slow to wrote any more after the feedback I got.

I think new writers need to look around, see how things are done here, and learn to put things in perspective. Also, to focus on the good and not the bad.

One of your stories has 13 comments, and all but one are very positive. 13 comments is a great number for the number of views that story has. The comments are glowing. The one comment that is critical corrects the story on what you might regard as picky errors, but they're mostly sound observations from which you can take away something useful.

Maybe you deleted some critical comments, but the good ones should encourage you to keep writing and the one critical one provides some useful advice.

Thanks so much. I've got lots of negative messages about them which were so picky

Writers publish for readers (or money). They don't necessarily write for readers. I don't think of what readers (and there's no one, universal "reader") will think of anything I'm writing while I'm organizing it in my mind and writing it. And only think of where it can be presented after I've written it.

I've posted a few stories and while I'm quite pleased by the response I have to admit a few of the anonymous comments took me back. Not everything is for everyone, of course, but jeez...

You sure fucked this story up. You completely changed direction on the use of the coupons. You might want to revise and repost it.......

I guess I'll just completely rewrite the story and do... something with the direction now? Lol.

But thanks to this thread I know I can disable anonymous comments now, I may do that. Not all of the anonymous comments are negative, but the most negative ones are for sure.

That ending? There is a phrase - "leave them wanting more" - which would have worked well here, rather than "leave them hanging" because it looks like a deadline had been set and reached and this was the quickest way to round it off.

Oh I can't help it, that story had the most clear cut ending in the history of endings! It had an epilogue for god's sake! I'm like, I dunno I thought 40,000 words was enough, especially as my story made it very clear there would be more? ;)

I won't even get into the direct messages you get. A few of them were... kinda yikes? I mean, getting together to meet with a couple to talk about incest erotica? Hmmmmmm, lemme think.... ;)
