The co-author gets screwed

Dude, that's nothing. I've singlehandedly written every word in my catalog, and still I'm often puzzled at what's in there.
Any sufficiently long project eventually becomes a collab. Your present self is simply collaborating with your past selves.
 
Mary and write together under a different pen name. Though on that pen, so far I've only collaborated on one story. But you guys don't even know that pen.
