Not to unduly politicize this, but Vice President Biden once again displays hoof & mouth disease as he counsels, 'stay at home, don't travel, don't fly, don't use Subways(not the restaurant), while the White House is saying live life as usual, just wash your hands.
And now, a Presidential Staffer who was on the Mexican trip, is showing flu like symptoms. Was he/she on Air Force One with the President? Aircraft recirculate air as there ain't none at 30,000 feet, at least not enough to breathe, so the aircraft is pressurized with oxygen which is cycled throughout the plane.
"What's next?" As President Bartlett in, "The West Wing", used to ask?

If you'd bothered reading the article, you'd have seen that the staffer works for the Secretary of Energy, was infected in mid-April, flew home on a United flight, and claims to have not been within six feet of the President during the trip. Full story here.
My first reaction to this is to STAY IN THE HOUSE. I have everything I need here. Hell, my daughter won't run out of diapers for another two or three months. I have trouble leaving the house as it is for anything longer than a grocery trip or appointment.
My second reaction? Don't eat pork.

Aside from your tone, thank you for the link, I had only heard a brief report on CNN this morning, which did not include the information in the link.
At this point, no one knows for certain just how virulent or threatening this event may be, certainly not me. The conflicting advice that abounds everywhere ranges from dismissal to pandemonium, so it would not surprise me if a member of the White House staff contracted the ailment while in Mexico.

Notice how an emergency allways pops up when a nominees confirmation is in danger?
HHS - flu?

Yeah, it really can't hurt. I stocked up on all the basics and non-perishable food items. I'm getting my garden in now, planting an extra container garden, and sprouting. Any interruption in goods and services around where I live is a major disaster because people depend entirely on them and can't function otherwise. If McDonald's is closed, I think half of the population would starve.I intend to do much the same when I get back from this conference next week. yeah, it seems all paranoid, but no, it can't hurt and it's not like I'm not going to be able to use all of this stuff eventually. But staples and canned goods and so on might be a nice thing to have.
Besides which, I grew up with a farm mom who stockpiled all kinds of things on shelves in the basement, like canned tomato products, flour, sugar, and things like that. There was something really reassuring about going down and getting cans of stuff off the shelves.

Same here, I bought a six month supply of Advil, Tylenol, allergy meds and made a kick ass first aid kit. Probably a shortage of supplies and labor force is the worst case scenario at this point. In this economy, it could happen without a flu pandemic. If Hubby gets laid off, I think I can feed us for a while.I also stocked up on UHT milk and other non-perishables, just in case. If everyone gets sick and they close the supermarkets down it's gonna be impossible to get food, so I'd rather be prepared - it'll all get eaten eventually, whatever.
I also bought in extra supplies of painkillers, just in case we go down with the lurgy I don;t want to be without some analgesics
I did like the news reports this morning, though. Something along the lines of "We're sorry for scaring you all. Now we've looked at the virus a bit more closely it may not be as dangerous as we thought - oops - our bad"
