Perfect Albums

Of all their great albums The Groundhog's Split was their best album (a tough choice).

The best tune:
Although it spotlights Bandleader Tony McPhee, rather than the whole band:

The Yes Album

Their third album, but, Just like Supertramp as I mentioned above, this is the album that brought it all together for them. An album where every song is a favorite:

Great pick and I agree with your "Crime of the Century" Supertramp pick too.

I would add:

1) Yes - Close to the Edge
CTTE is considered by many to be the best Progressive Rock album ever recorded.

2) Genesis - A Trick of the Tail
I actually like Selling England by the Pound more, but it's not a perfect album.

3) Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing
My opinion is this 2013 release is the best Prog Rock album since the 70s glory days.

4) MahavIshnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame
The debut album and the greatest Jazz Fusion album to ever be released. The intensity and speed at which this band plays is astonishing.

5) Steely Dan - Aja
Every song is a banger. The title track, Josie, Black Cow and Peg are among my favorite songs from Steely Dan and they are all on this one album.

There are other albums I could list from the rock, jazz and classical worlds but this is a start.

Usually Greatest Hits albums should not be considered perfect albums but Waylon Jennings is the exception. Plus the album cover.

Can you describe for those “not in your region”?

45 rpm 7” records.

3000-3500 of them. Mostly boring rock, country and pop. Stuff you’d hear at an everyday bar, tavern, dive, pub etc

The previous owner was a guy who either leased or sold or serviced jukeboxes.

And what’s the perfect 45?

Sorry, I think Imgur is blocked in England. Anyway it’s Moe Bandy “ it’s a cheating situation” b/w “ try my love on for size”.

It’s really shit, but I figured Mo Bandy would appreciate it.

The first of my 'triumvirate' of Perfect Kinks albums. I've already spoken about Muswell Hillbillies, my favorite, and the last of the three.

Arthur relates stories about wartime Britain and includes the story of Arthur, a stalwart, but fairly dull citizen who sees through it all.

From the opener, the glorious, kick-ass Victoria to the final title cut Arthur, nobody paints a sharper picture of a time and a people than the Kinks.

All the songs are great, but here's a few

.....Hi InFidelity did have some really good music! Gary Richrath guitar playing was superb, There were lots of songs to pick from, but I thought I would pick one that was less popular, but its still a album that I like to listen to

First instinct is London Calling, a truly great album by a band at their peak which shows their mastery of many musical styles but it’s been chosen already.

So my my nomination is International Velvet by Catatonia, an album of spirit and humour, with not a bad song on it.

Third of my triumvirate of legendary Kinks albums (actually #2 in chronological order):

Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround

It's my second favorite Kinks album after Muswell Hillbillies (Arthur is #3).
With a massive hit like Lola, it features awesome songs like Apeman, Rats, Denmark Street, This Time Tomorrow, the Dave Davies penned Strangers, and the immensely powerful Get Back in Line.

It's mostly, but not all, about the music business, but as usual, a slice of British life.

Chris Rea-Road to Hell.....The album just has such a nice flow from start to finish, with some incredible guitar moments, a very worthwhile listen on a good sound system or headphones loud

I’d throw the kinks are the village green preservation society in there too.

They were such an amazing band!

Village Green Preservation Society is a great album - probably the most songs on any Kinks album. I view it as the end of the previous era that started with Face to Face (with Sunny Afternoon), bringing them out of their earlier 'rocker' success.

Over the next few years before Arthur, they continued to have mostly UK hits like Waterloo Sunset, David Watts and others. It was during this period that Ray Davies perfected the band's ability to 'paint miniatures' - small vignettes out of British life, often highlighting those with drab and uninspiring lives - which he brought back with Muswell Hillbillies' stunning Oklahoma USA.

Some more that spring to mind...

Black Sands - Bonobo
Everything Must Go - Manic Street Preachers
No.1 in Heaven - Sparks
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Dare! - Human League

I just went through this entire thread…

Never Mind The Bollocks is a perfect album. The sound is amazing, the production is great and the songs are all great too excellent. Even songs like liar and New York are all pretty good.

It was groundbreaking and brutal. No matter what you think of John Lydon this album was a statement and a great album. I have been listening to this since 1981/2, and it never gets old.

Steve Jones has a great guitar sound anyway, but they just nailed it on this his record.

Maybe the most brutal song I’ve ever heard in every respect..

And I must add that this was my favorite song on this album for the longest time.

Live at Leeds - The Who

Possibly the best live album ever. The best Magic Bus ever, and some awesome renditions of random songs:

IMO, the best:
