Perfect Albums

I know it's kind of cheating to name a sort of 'best hits' album, but Frank Sinatra's 'The Reprise Years' just denotes a segment of his career - in my view, the best segment.

This is, IMO, the very best of Frank.

It's got all my favorites, from:
to:
to:
to:

and beyond...

a perfect album.

49:00 of Your Life by Paul Westerberg of the Replacements. Released online only by Amazon in 2008 for .49. It is exactly 49:00 long. Actually one continuous track so you are forced to listen to entire album. Brilliant stuff that he recorded by himself, playing all instruments. I think it was only available for a week because of a cease and desist from publishers because one track was a medley of Beatles and Stones and Kinks and Elton John songs. Anyways you can still listen on Youtube and Souncloud or find a download if you are good at the internet.

Muswell Hillbillies - The Kinks

My favorite. Every song is fabulous.
1. 20th Century Man
2. Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues
3. Holiday
4. Skin and Bone
5. Alcohol
6. Complicated Life

Side two

1. Here Come the People in Grey
2. Have a Cuppa Tea
3. Holloway Jail
4. Oklahoma U.S.A.
5. Uncle Son
6. Muswell Hillbilly

Meant to post in this earlier but love this album and the Kinks. Lived in London for a summer once and spent a lot of time visiting old Kinks landmarks. Muswell Hill, Little Green Street, Hampstead Heath, Archway Tavern and Camden Head in Islington were a few I remember off top of my head. Cheers to Alcohol.

I was wowed by that weird little song cycle. The one about his father knocked the wind out of me. If I remember correctly, that song could only be fully heard by listening through just one of the stereo channels.

Yeah I do not remember the fact about stereo channel but you might be right. There is another album called 5:05 that is available that is tied to this. I believe a couple these songs appear on some of his later albums namely the one with Juliana Hatfield, the I Don’t Cares which might have been his last official release in 2016.

Oh this is so damn hard.

Incubus-Morning View
Nirvana-Unplugged
Tool-Lateralus and 10000 days
Red Hot Chili Peppers- By the Way
Oasis- what’s the story morning glory
Artic Monkeys-AM
Smashing Pumpkins-melancholy of infinite sadness
Blues Brothers- Briefcase full of blues
Bob Marley- Legend
Fleetwood Mac - Rumors
Michael Jackson-Thriller
Beatles- just put them all in there
Led Zeppelin- II or III
The English Beat - I just can’t stop it
The Specials - Self Titled
Foo Fighters- Color and the Shape
Super Tramp-Breakfast in America

Goodnight Sweet Prince
That song makes me cry everytime. So beautiful and powerful.

”Goodnight sweet prince
If you’re still there
I never shed a tear that night
I’d been crying for a year

Goodnight sweet prince
I leaned and whispered in his ear”

Every Picture Tells a Story - Rod Stewart
Despite his successes with the Faces and two previous solo albums, this is the record that made him break out as an international superstar.

Side one is great, but side two is the most killer 2nd side in history, with Maggie May, Mandolin Wind, (I know) I'm Losing You, and the exquisite Reason to Believe, this is a perfect album.

A personal favorite:

And, of course:

Agree. Could have easily said Never A Dull Moment too. I might have to write that one up. I love Rod Stewart. Faces too.

All Lynyrd Skynyrd albums are perfect, but let's focus on the last of the original band: Street Survivors.

There are huge hits, and only a couple of lesser known tunes:

1. What's Your Name
2. That Smell
3. One More Time
4. I Know a Little

Side two:
1. You Got That Right
2. I Never Dreamed
3. Honky Tonk Night Time Man
4. Ain't No Good Life Gaines

A timeless, but sad, history accompanies this perfect album:

I believe I mentioned Elvis Costello's debut album here, but I firmly believe that his first 5 albums were perfect. I'm not gonna go in order, but let's talk about Armed Forces.

"Senior Service" – 2:17
"Oliver's Army" – 2:58 - one of the greatest
"Big Boys" – 2:54
"Green Shirt" – 2:42 - a huge favorite
"Party Girl" – 3:20

Side two
"Goon Squad" – 3:14
"Busy Bodies" – 3:33
"Sunday's Best" – 3:22 Replaced by What’s So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding on the American release
"Moods for Moderns" – 2:48
"Chemistry Class" – 2:55
"Two Little Hitlers" – 3:18
