polysporin for 'down there'?

Can I use polysporin on labial folds? I have an ingrown hair (I think) that has been bugging me for a while and I finally this morning got some of the gunk out of it, but now, there is an open hole down in a dark, warm, moist environment.

Is polysporin okay? Any other suggestions?

Moist and dark your vagina might be, but it is also relatively clean.

I'd wear some loose fitting underwear, stay away from tight pants, and see if it'll heal on its own.

Maybe go through some of the informational threads on ingrown hairs in this very forum to see if there's any more advice for you.

Good luck. OUCH!

Well, the loose fitting is easy......I've lost weight and i'm out of town and apparently didn't pay attention when I was packing and packed jeans and underwear that are too big.

I'm not a medical professional, but an antibiotic preparation should be fine, provided you don't slather it on a large area, or put it IN your vagina.

Call a local pharmacist, tell them what's going on, and ask if they recommend dabbing the polysporin on the affected area, leaving it alone, or something else.

If you want something more natural to help it heal, you might try treating it like a piercing wound, applying a compress soaked in a sea-salt solution, or dabbing on the solution with a cotton swab, then letting it dry before you put on clothing, several times a day. Recipes for the preparation of the solution are widely available online.

Ouch!

When I poke a hole are cut my hand at work I super glue it to keep it clean and to help it heal faster.

In your case do not...REPEAT DO NOT... use super glue!

The minimum amount to cover the affected area only with polysporin probably will not hurt anything.

Polysporin shouldn't really be used 'down there' - it could potentially kill off the 'good' bacteria. Do as SweetErika suggested and call up the local pharmacist and ask if there's anything you should do (actually, anything SweetErika suggests is sound advice). Most minor cuts heal better if left alone, so just make sure it's clean and leave it alone - it should completely heal within 4-5 days.

Just to clarify, I'm thinking just a dab of the polysporin on the problematic spot, assuming that spot isn't in a location that will allow the polysporin to get in the vagina. That shouldn't kill off good bacteria *in* the vagina, thus causing an imbalance/infection.

If the wound is very near the vagina, or you're likely to use too much polysporin, steer clear of it altogether.

If it doesn't get better, or it gets worse in the next few days, or you're unsure, you need to see a doctor. It might not be an ingrown hair (certain bacteria getting into the skin can cause something that has similar symptoms), and you may need a special ointment or some kind of intervention. Better safe than sorry. :)

And I thought I was the only one to super glue my cuts shut or tape them up with duct tape.

I just about choked on my wine when you told me not to use super glue near my hoo ha.

"The spot" is nearly two inches away from the vaginal opening, so I don't think I'd be worried about any getting up there. And, I wasn't planning to slather myself in the polysporin.

I actually haven't done anything to it yet, other than the accidental bursting of the thing this morning. I've known it's been there for several days as I would feel it when I wipe. Just the fact that a good amount of it has drained has made it feel a LOT better than even when I asked the question this morning.

Ah, well, that's entirely different, then! For some reason, I thought it was very near the opening. Oh well, mea culpa.

I've had no problem using neosporin down there, and it's almost the same stuff. (what I did was severely pinch a bit of skin between 2 toys)

Using super glue there does present an interesting mental picture. One that would be very, very hard to explain to medical professionals without looking like you are missing a few brain cells too many.

Although they most probably have seen it all....

I have a close friend who is a doctor and she says that she stopped thinking that "she's seen it all" not very far into her career. She says a lot of things surprise her in the ER, but she's learned to have a pretty good poker face.

I do have a friend who accidentally super glued her fingers to her forehead when trying to assemble some Ikea furniture.

soo.....

You all made me curious so I did some internet research. As far as I could discover there are no known cases of a woman accidentally supergluing her vagina shut....
interestingly, there are so many cases of angry women supergluing their husbands penis to his abdomen that according to one article I read the company that makes superglue changed the label to warn against the use of superglue involving genitals...unfortunately I didn't have a tube of superglue to check.
There was also one case of a hormonally overcharged man who somehow accidentally superglued his penis to his vacuum cleaner. (laughing) No details were given on how this happened.
So the only advice I have to men is that if you have recently cheated on your girl...hide the superglue!
