Pure Moonlight (closed)

"Papa, I think it's twins." Luna murmured softly as she helped Vincenzo to set up the tools that they might need. "They would be awfully small."

"Then let's hope they are indeed cubs," Vincenzo muttered. Cubs could stand up to a premature birth a little better than human babies, but only just. And though it wasn't common for a werefolk couple to have human children, Ruben's partly human lineage could factor in.

"Have a little faith, cara mia," Vincenzo told her with a kind smile, always so calm even in dire situations. "We train our whole lives for these situations. If it can be done, we'll manage it."

"You've lived a lot longer than I have." Luna said with a slight smile on her face as he reassured her. "And it's different because these are Ruben's cubs. I don't want to break his heart."

"As long as Telma is alright at the end of this, he'll be alright," Vincenzo assured her.

Once they returned to Telma, the process began to pick up speed. The cubs were so small that it didn't take terribly long for them to be born, but they needed constant care.

Luna was there to bring Timmal into the world, her nephew squirming and whimpering like tiny cubs often did. She smiled towards her brother as she cleaned the dark furred little cub on the bench next to her grandfather's tools. He was so tiny but she could see that he looked just like his father.

"You have a beautiful little boy, Ru." Luna said as her brother was at her side, eager to mark his cub with his scent.

Despite the nerves and the worry, Ruben surprised himself with how calm he was when he saw his first cub. His hands were sure, taking Timmal from his sister and cradling the boy against his chest. The little cub whimpered at being moved around, but settled easily. And then Vincenzo came to the bench with another bundle in his arms. "Luna," he murmured, giving her the tiny white cub, the absolute opposite of her brother and father.

Luna was stunned when Vincenzo placed a white cub in her arms. She looked down at the little girl, a smile slowly crossing her features as she looked up at Ruben and then back down at the little cub. She whimpered, stretching and growling as her cub blue eyes opened to look around the world for the first time.

"Ruben." Luna said softly to her brother. "You have a daughter too."

Ruben's gaze turned to the white cub, and he remained absolutely speechless. She was a rare pure white cub with lovely blue eyes not unlike Luna when she was small. He could hardly wait for Luna to give the little girl over, holding both his cubs in awed silence for a long moment before finally whispering, "Are they alright...? And Telma?" The health of his family was foremost in his worries.

"They're tiny but they're healthy." Luna said as Ruben cradled both cubs close, in awe over his new little family. "And Papa is finishing with Telma. She'll be sore and tired, but with rest she should be just fine."

She smiled at her brother as he seemed so natural holding two tiny cubs. "What is her name?"

"I don't know yet," Ruben murmured, nuzzling his little cubs adoringly. "Telma named Timmal... so maybe I'll name this one."

When Vincenzo let the two new parents reunite, Ruben entered quietly with his cubs and sat down beside his mate. He let her take Timmal first, the black cub looking just like his father and grandfather.

Telma was exhausted, but the moment that she saw her cubs, her eyes lit up. She smiled at Ruben, taking Timmal and holding him close as she nuzzled against his tiny features. She couldn't believe how much he looked like his father and Kreston. The little cub whimpered and curled up against his mother's warmth, sighing in contentment.

"They're so tiny." Telma said softly as she looked at Ruben staring down at their daughter. "Vincenzo showed them both to me before he took them to Luna. They were both growling and crying like normal, though."

"They were bound to be small anyway, being twins. But Timmal's definitely the bigger one." Ruben laid the little girl against her too, smoothing her white fur. He was concerned for the white cub as she was smaller and quieter, but he was also lost in thought trying to find a name for her.

"Hello, my little beauty." Telma murmured as she pressed a kiss against the girl's tiny forehead. "Don't wrap your Da around your finger too soon, alright?"

Telma chuckled as she looked up at Ruben, so deep in thought at the moment. "Ru?"

When he glanced at her, she gave him a soft smile and tilted her chin for a kiss. "I love you."

"And I love you," he murmured, gladly giving her the kiss she wanted. "What do you think of Katya?" It was an old name, one that wasn't used often anymore among the Lunar people. But Ruben had always liked it.

Telma thought about the name Katya for a long moment before she glanced down at the little cub who was watching them both with blue eyes. "I'm not sure. What do you think about it, beautiful?" Telma asked their newborn daughter.

The little cub hiccuped in response, making Telma laugh. "I take that as a yes."

Ruben chuckled, leaning down to kiss Katya's forehead and nuzzle against her lightly. "It looks like between Katya and Luna, we're starting a line of white wolves."

"The world would be a sad place without white wolves in it." Telma said softly as she nuzzled against Katya, the little cub rumbling in pleasure at the simple contact with her mother. Timmal was already sound asleep, nuzzled against her soft fur without a care in the world. "It makes me happy that we have one of our own."

Telma was a natural at being a mother. She was incredibly happy, content, and so in love with the tiny cubs in her arms. They were now her world and she would fight to the death to keep them safe. It was a common feeling among many new mothers in the tribe.

"Da was going to get my Ma and your parents. We can wait until the full moon to reveal their names or we can tell them now. It's up to you." She murmured softly.

"I think we should tell our immediate family, but properly introduce them on the full moon," Ruben offered with a smile. Every full moon, Taqu'un liked to introduce the newest members of the tribe, be they newborn or newly arrived.

"I think that's a lovely idea." Telma said as she closed her tired eyes and got some rest with the twins in her arms before the family came.

She woke a short time later to the sounds of talking in the living room. Something smelled delicious and knowing her mother she had brought enough to feed an army. Mako's little voice was loud, even as Selena told him to quiet down so he wouldn't wake the babies.

Ruben was watching over everyone, occasionally looking in on Telma and the cubs to make sure they were alright. When he looked in again, he smiled to see Telma awake, and he stepped in quietly to sit at her side. "Hungry, love?" He asked quietly.

"What did Ma bring?" Telma asked as she looked down at the cubs. "I suppose I should feed them first. That way they won't be so cranky."

"She brought a few things, actually. You'll just have to come look," Ruben smiled. "Something for everyone." He reached out to smooth Timmal's downy fur as the boy shifted and whimpered.

Telma chuckled as he told her that and she dutifully fed Timmal first. The little cub ate his fill, which wasn't much, but was soon content to lay in his father's arms as his sister got the chance to nurse. Telma couldn't keep her eyes off Ruben. She was sure that she was even more in love with him now then when she first set eyes on him as a young wolf.

"He looks just like you, eldere." Telma murmured softly as Katya whimpered and sighed while she nursed. "Same dark fur and amber eyes."
