Pure Moonlight (closed)

"Dad's going to be over the moon to see him. I asked them to wait until you were awake to bring them out. Ma can hardly wait." Ruben had always had a paternal side, having been a key part of Luna's upbringing being so much older than her. He held Timmal as if he'd looked after children his whole life.

"Go on, love. Take him to meet them all. I'll be out in a moment with Katya." Telma said with a smile as Ruben seemed so eager to introduce his son to the rest of the family.

Ruben leaned down to kiss her cheek and stepped out to his waiting family. The first people he took Timmal to were Katina and Selena, passing the cub to Katina first as he was, after all, named after her first mate.

Katina was in tears as she caught sight of the little cub for the first time. She had known that Telma was going to name the baby after her father, but she wasn't prepared for the wealth of emotion that came with seeing the squirming boy for the first time.

"Ruben, he's perfect." Katina murmured, glancing at her son-in-law with a watery smile on her face.

"Mama, I see. I see." Mako said, squirming with excitement as Selena lifted the little boy into her arms so that he could see his nephew for the first time.

"You have to be quiet and careful. He's very tiny." Selena explained with endless patience, teaching Mako that there was a time and a place for his boundless energy.

Ruben reached out to Mako, taking his little hand. "Gently," Ruben told him softly, letting him touch Timmal's fur. "And you'll have to be even more careful with Katya." He'd kept the second cub a secret until then.

"Another?" Selena asked in a slightly stunned voice. "Love, there's two cubs?"

She could see the smile on Ruben's features as Telma appeared at the bedroom door. She was stiff, but that was to be expected after giving birth. Katya was wrapped warmly in one of Telma's blankets, the little white wolf sleeping peacefully after getting a full belly.

"Another white wolf?" Selena murmured as she sat Mako down on the ground, making sure that the little boy didn't cause trouble before she moved to Telma, kissing her cheek gently. "Come and sit down, love. We are here to spoil you like any new mother should be."

"Da knew about Katya. Did he not tell you?" Telma asked as she glanced towards Ghell who gave her a sheepish smile.

"Ruben wanted her to be a surprise for Selena just like Timmal's name was for Katina," Ghell explained to them all. Kreston guided Telma to a seat before he got his first look at his granddaughter. It was just like Luna all over again.

Selena scooped Katya into her arms, smiling down at the sleeping cub like the proud grandmother that she was. "She's beautiful."

Mako was dancing around Selena on his little paws, struggling to see the tiny cub until Kreston lifted him to a higher vantage point. Once he saw Katya, he calmed and held on to his Da's thick dark fur.

The family was completely caught up in doting on the new mother and cubs, and Ruben was the quiet protector of the three, keeping Mako's energy in check and making sure they had everything they needed.

Mako was soon hungry, taking his chance to pull Ruben into the kitchen to serve up the food. He tried his hardest to help his brother feed the rest of the family. Katina had made a feast to celebrate the arrival of her new grandchildren. Roasted chicken, pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravies, carrots, rabbit and rice, and a multitude of desserts to choose from.

Mako put out all of the plates, his brown tail wagging in excitement. "Ru? I give to Telma?" He asked his brother, waiting for the first plate to be filled before he took it to her. "I help."

"Go ahead. Both hands, and don't run," Ruben reminded him gently, filling the plate for him to take to Telma. He smiled down at his brother and ruffled his fur affectionately before sending him off.

Mako smiled up at his brother as he took the plate he had been given and carefully walked to Telma, giving it to her before he bounded back into the kitchen to do the same for everyone else.

"That boy has more energy than any other cub I've met." Selena commented, looking towards Kreston with a soft laugh.

"He'll either keep us young or finally turn you grey." Kreston smiled to his mate who still looked so young to his eyes. He had bits of silver here and there, especially on his chest, but Selena still looked like a mature but still fairly young woman.

Selena smiled towards Kreston, snuggling a little closer to Katya as the cub continued to slumber. Soon, the twins were placed on a blanket next to the fire where they could sleep while the family ate. Mako sat in Kreston's lap, eating his food while he glanced from time to time at the Cubs. He was use to the babies at the orphanage but he somehow knew that these two were his to protect.

By sunset, Ruben knew Telma needed sleep and he did too, so he let their mothers put the twins in their crib while he made sure Telma was comfortable. He seemed to already be very comfortable in prioritizing tasks as a protective father.

Telma was exhausted by the time Ruben get her tucked back into bed. She knew that she would be up soon enough with the twins when they were hungry and she needed to get as much sleep as she possibly could.

Selena got Katya settled in beside her brother, kissing each cub as they whimpered and stretched before finally settling to sleep. When she made her way back out to Kreston and Mako, she paused to give a kiss to her exhausted eldest son.

"I can stay the night, love." Selena offered. "Another set of hands would mean more sleep for the both of you."

"I don't want to take you away from Mako and Dad," Ruben murmured. "I can handle it, Ma. I ought to get used to it early, right?" He gave her a soft smile that told her just how content he was at that moment.

"There's learning things for the sake of learning and then there's insanity." Selena said as Ruben told her that he needed to learn. "Mako and Dad can go camping if you need me, love. There's no shame in asking for help."

"I suppose I could use the help," Ruben gave in quietly, but with a smile. "And it'd give you a chance to dote on the cubs." He kissed her cheek adoringly.

"Get some sleep, love. I'll be on watch." Selena said as she kissed his cheek and sent him off to bed with Telma.

Once the two of them were taken care of, Selena turned her attentions back towards Mako and Kreston. "Want to go camping with Dad?"

She smiled as Mako nodded enthusiastically. "You need to listen close to him, Mako. If he tells you to do something, you need to do it."

Kreston ruffled Mako's fur. "I think we can manage, love. He's energetic but he's a good cub." He kissed Selena with a smile. "Make sure you get some sleep tonight too."

Mako was vibrating with energy as Kreston ruffled his fur. He loved three things in his life: his family, fishing, and running. He was about to have all three of those things with his Dad and his little tail was swishing quickly in his excitement.

"Fishy. Fishy!" Mako murmured as he tugged on Kreston's sleeve, knowing that in the morning he and his Dad would be fishing on the banks of the creek.

"Catch me a whole bunch of them and I'll cook them for you." Selena said with a grin as she kissed Mako's cheek and sent the two of them both on their way.

Locking up the cabin after the two were on their way, Selena couldn't help the need to check on the babies. Looking in their cradle, she let out a soft sigh. They were lovely little cubs, small but seemingly healthy. She could hardly believe that her son was a father. She knew that Ruben had wanted a family all his own for a very long time and she was very happy for him.

Late into the night, it was Timmal who woke first with a whimper, squirming uncomfortably. Katya wasn't far behind, but any sound she made was quiet, almost whispy as if she couldn't quite find her voice.

Selena was awake in an instant, picking up both twins as they whimpered. She nuzzled each of them until they quieted, rocking with them in a chair by the fire as she let their parents get a few more moments of sleep.

"There are so many things to show the both of you." Selena said softly, looking down at her grandchildren. "And your Gran is going to make sure that you see it all."

Ruben was soon awake, coming into the firelight silently to see his mother holding his children. He couldn't help a small smile to himself before he quietly pulled up a chair at her side. He stroked Katya's fur soothingly and when she took hold of his fingers, he scooped her up into his arms.
