Pure Moonlight (closed)

"She's already got you charmed." Selena said with a smile as Katya squeaked and squirmed, nuzzling against her father's dark fur until she was still. "She's a beauty, love. You'll have to be on your guard as she gets older."

"Thankfully I have time to prepare my threats," Ruben muttered, taking Katya's little hand between his finger and thumb. "Telma might have a hard time getting these two away from me some days."

"There's nothing wrong with that. It will give her time to herself, which she'll need even if she doesn't think she does." Selena murmured as Timmal whimpered again, hungry after his nap. "Go take them in to her, Ru. I'll fix you both something to drink."

Carefully she handed the dark furred little cub to his Da, kissing all three with a smile. "I'm proud of you, love."

"I'm honestly pretty proud of myself now too," he chuckled deeply, a sound which made his cubs curl closer against him as it was so familiar from the months of Ruben keeping so close to Telma. He rose and disappeared into the dark bedroom, laying his cubs on his side of the bed before waking Telma with a kiss.

"Telma," he murmured. "The little ones need you."

Telma rubbed at her eyes, exhausted and sore as Ruben woke her from her sleep. It took her a moment to realize that he had brought the babies with him. She let out a small sigh, finally waking up enough to push herself up, wincing in pain as she did.

"I need help, Ru." She admitted softly.

"What's wrong?" He asked worriedly, helping her to sit up against the pillows. He lifted a hand to her cheek, smoothing back her fur affectionately.

"I had your Cubs and I'm terribly sore." Telma said with a soft smile as he touched her cheek and looked so concerned. "I need some help moving around. That's all."

"You just let me know if it gets any worse," Ruben reminded her. Once she was comfortable, he scooped up Timmal who was starting to fuss, and he laid the cub in his mother's arms before he settled on his side of the bed with Katya in his arms.

Telma relaxed back against the pillows as Timmal nursed, the little wolf making hungry grunts as he struggled to get his belly full. She glanced over at Katya who had dozed off, nuzzled against her father's fur.

"She's an angel." She said softly with a smile towards her mate. "And she obviously loves her Da. She couldn't ask for a better one."

"I think she just likes my fur and being so warm," Ruben said with a smile, looking down at his little girl. "Both of them act like they've known me all along..." He knew cubs and children were used to their parents' voices by the time they were born, but Katya and Timmal seemed equally attached to both parents, not favoring one or the other like many newborns seemed to.

"When they're stronger, we need to take the Cubs to your grandparents. Your grandmother's might fight for the chance to hold them." She said with a smile as Katya sighed in contentment. "I was thinking about Katya Selene since Timmal is named after my Da."

"You know Ma would insist we name her after someone more important," Ruben chuckled, knowing how his mother always insisted that people not worry about anything to do with her. "But I think it's perfect." He nuzzled little Katya's cheek, pleasantly surprised when she did the same in return.

"She loves you." Telma said with a smile, watching as Katya nuzzled against her Da with a soft whimper.

Selena came in a few moments later with a mug of tea for both of them. She placed them on the bed side table and kissed Telma's forehead.

"Don't let this big lug rest for a moment." Selena teased as she looked at her son. "He might get lazy when it comes to the Cubs."

"I've hardly rested at all for the past eight months," Ruben insisted, picking up Timmal when he finished and letting Katya take his place.

"Well, it's pay back for all the fun you had bringing these two little cubs into the world." Selena said as she kissed her son's cheek. "I'm going to get some sleep. Let me know if you need anything."

"We should be fine for now," Ruben nodded, and he kissed his mother's cheek in return before she got too far. "Thanks, Ma. For everything."

Selena simply smiled at the both of them before she left them alone with their little family. The first few days together was important and she knew that they would care for those cubs beautifully.

It was a week later when the doctors arrived from Ireland to assess the situation with Arin. The young wolf was nervous, even though Luna and Vincenzo would be assisting. As they all consulted with each other, she sat with Ghell in their living room, her hands wringing nervously in front of her.

"Norr told me he would be here." Arin said, slightly upset that her twin was nowhere to be seen.

"He will be... If he knows what's good for him," Ghell murmured quietly. He wasn't happy with his son's absence, especially lately as Arin grew more nervous. Work and flirting were never supposed to come ahead of his own sister.

Katina entered the room shortly after Arin leaned her head against her Da's shoulder. She could tell by the look in Ghell's eyes that he was upset about something, but she didn't say a word as she went to her daughter and kissed her brow.

"I made you some meat pies. Would you like one, love?" Katina asked softly, knowing that her daughter was incredibly nervous to hear what the healers had to say.

"My stomach is in knots." Arin said in a miserable voice.

"You'll be alright, love. At worst, nothing will change. And we can make it if that's true." Ghell kissed Arin's cheek and hugged her close against his side. Just as the senior wolf healer stepped in, Norr appeared in the doorway panting heavily.

"Arin," he said quickly, coming to her side. "I'm sorry, there was an emergency with the hunters. I came back as fast as I could."

"Norr." Arin said, her ears picking up as she saw her twin. "You came."

She relaxed visibly, taking his hand as the lead healer stepped into the room, followed by the others and Luna.

The senior healer was Mariko Vamo, the very same wolf who'd cared for Julia when she delivered Heather and Ashelin and the miracle worker who'd ensured that young Cassandra Monaghan's withered leg would heal properly and grow with her. He was just as serene and at ease as the moment he informed Sarah he would take Cassie's case, and the moment he informed her that their work had come to a successful conclusion in Ireland.

"Arin," Mariko said softly.

Arin glanced towards her parents and her twin before she looked at Mariko, nervous as she struggled to find her voice.

"Is there anything that you can do?" Arin asked softly, her heart thundering in her chest as she squeezed her brother's hand tightly.

"I believe there is, dear cub," Mariko confirmed with a not and a gentle smile. "If we cannot repair all of the damage, I'm sure we can at least have you walking unaided again."

That was more than anyone had dared to truly hope for, and Norr and Ghell both hugged Arin between them.

"When?" Arin asked as both her brother and her Da hugged her tightly, hope glowing brightly in her eyes for the first time in a very long time.
