Rambling Rosie's Retreat

Nothing wrong with that!
Where's the best place you've been on holiday?
This is a question, like favourite song or film, with a hundred different answers depending on what particular day you ask.

I love many places for many different reasons, I think mainly because I'm a curious soul who appreciates the universe letting me be its witness in this little corner.

So today the best place is IMHO..... Sri Lanka.

Hey there, Rosie. Thank you for being brave and sharing your struggle. It's one that resonates with me in many ways, especially over the past few months. Something that always makes me smile and feel stronger and more positive is this song by Frank Turner.

"If Ever I Stray"

Forgive me, someone, for I have sinned
And I know not where I should begin
And some days it feels like you just can't win
No matter what you do or say

Things didn't kill me but I don't feel stronger
Life is short but it feels much longer
When you've lost that fight, you've lost that hunger
To pull yourself through the day

But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow
And then drag me on back to shore

Because love is free and life is cheap
And as long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat
I can't ask for anything more
So come on everybody sing: 1, 2, 3, 4

We've all got secrets that we hold inside
The worst little things that you never confide
And the worst one of all that you just can't hide
Is that you're never quite as strong as you sound

So I'm sorry baby, for the times I've hurt you
Sorry friends, for the times I desert you
Most days it feels like I don't deserve you
And I wonder that you're all still around

But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow
And then drag me on back to shore

Because love is free and life is cheap
And as long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat
I can't ask for anything more
So come on everybody sing: 1, 2, 3, 4

Come on and join me in the water
And we'll swim for home
Sometimes it's hard to remember
I couldn't do this on my own

But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow
And then drag me on back to shore

Because love is free and life is cheap
And as long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat
I can't ask for anything more

I won't ask for anything more

The path I chose isn't straight and narrow
It wanders around like a drunken fellow
Some days it's hard for me to follow
But if you've got my back I'll go on
If you've got my back I'll go on

That's a great song! Haven't heard it before but I'll be giving it another listen.

The video was filmed at one of my most favourite places too 😊

That's a great attitude to have about the world 😊
Why is Sri Lanka the best place today? Should I ask you tomorrow too? 😁

I have to admit that I needed to do a search... apparently it's somewhere in Northumbria and that was the North Sea and not the English Channel. It looks absolutely gorgeous to me.

I was walking around at work all afternoon thinking about where was "the best" and my mind kept going back to touring all around Sri Lanka - its natural beauty, wildlife, and its unique way of just being - I was going through my Buddhist 90s phase 😅 so it had a lot to show me.
It's also a place I'd like to return to when I usually choose to go to somewhere different every time.

Ask me again tomorrow...
It'll probably be a nude beach in Spain 😁

One place I've never been is Northumbria, though.
Not even been on a writer's pilgrimage to Whitby or Lindisfarne (and I know someone who has a house there)

It sounds like a beautiful place.

Whitby is great. Goth week is always fun or just having a tourist day and braving the steps.

Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Seahouses is such a beautiful little part of the country. If you can get up that way I'd really recommend it

I'm 46 - I certainly should have been over that side of the country, especially when it's such a inspirational place with a rich cultural and historical heritage.
I might fit it in next February or Easter.

Happy Saturday everyone ❤️

I have caught up on my sleep and feel vaguely human which makes a change...

Hoping you're all well. Anyone got some good plans for the weekend?

I'm not up to anything much but that's ok. I'm still just taking small steps and being mindful. Hopefully get out for a walk in the local countryside, make some good food, try not to fall asleep on the sofa again 🙈

You know, the basics 😁

Happy Saturday Rosie :)

Good to hear you are enjoying your weekend.
Just finished washing my car, lovely warm sunny day.

Not up to much myself with, just relaxing after a full week of work

We have cloudy skies but no rain yet so that's ok.

I hope it was a good weekend, Rosie. Good food and country walks are an excellent way to care for one's spirit. 🌹
