Reading Books For Pleasure

I bought Plum Spooky today to have to read by Evanovich!

I am still reading Breaking Dawn..It is good and I keep holding my breath to see what is going to happen next!

I just finsihed "the Outlaw Demon Wails", it was a little flat, I think. I'm hoping it's just a reset issue, but I was left a little blah by it.

I just started "the Big Sleep" by Raymond Chandler.

Noir is my first love, and I can't believe I never read "the Big Sleep" before, I'm loving it.

I've recently found the urban fantasy genre, and while I'm told it's a "chic genre", I don't much care. Anyone know of any other series similar to the Hollows books? And don't say Twilight, I needed an insulin injection after I endured that movie. I don't mind that the genre is a chic genre, but I don't want my jewels to fall off either.

Try The Becoming by Jeanne c. Stein or
The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost,
Patricia Briggs, Mercy Thompson series is good too.
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, Book 1) by Ilona Andrews.
Not the urban fantasy genre but Anne Bishop is a great writer

Okay, I am totally jealous about Plum Spooky.

I'm reading Breaking Dawn too!

I like all of those except Anne Bishop. The first Dark Jewels book really wasn't my cup of tea, the second one was a little better.

Aww I wish I could share it with you..

What are you thinking about Breaking Dawn?

:rose:

It was hard for me to get into at first but now I'm into it. Jacob is my fav character in the books. I'll probably finish it tonight or tomorrow.

How about you?

:rose:

She (Anne Bishop)has another series Sebastian and Belladonna you might like them better.
I am starting on the weather warden series by Rachel Cain.
and One Foot in The Grave just came out and I am half way through it in 1 day I so need to learn to pace myself.

I had a hard time getting into it too...I can't decide if I like Edward or Jacob better..LOL..But I am enjoying it and seeing what is happening.

I'll look into those!

And here I was hoping you'd read "White Witch, Black Curse". Then I looked it up and saw that it isn't due until next month (More like March, actually).

I've got a urban fantsy idea kicking around in my head (been there for a couple of years, actually). My favorite writing teacher alays said, 'If you want to write, you have to read!'

She is probably right! I need to write. Maybe someday, when the kids are in college!

Hi. I'm new here, but I do love to read! I have a funny story to share today.

I was at this cute used book store and I picked up some book about vampire relationships (not Twilight). The cover was really awesome red and fiery with a blindfolded woman with her arms behind her back. I bought it and when I gave it to the old lady at the desk, my friend started laughing at me. She said I was only getting it because it looked dirty. I laughed and agreed and this cute old lady was like, "Sometimes you have to mix it up a little bit. I would get bored with the same old thing every time." We cracked up because at first we didn't know she was talking about books.

Anyway, I also bought Ring, which is what the movie is based on. I don't have any preference for types of books.

For Stephanie Meyer fans: Have you read Host? It is also top notch!

*laughs at kaykat* gotta say I came down on the side of Jacob by breaking dawn. Overly sarcastic, playful AND protective? Oh yeah! Lol. I'm a big urban fantasy fan, working on a story right now. I'm reading anya bast witch fire, I'm loving it. So jealous of everyone who has plum spooky! I could do with a plum fix!

I am currentlt re-reading my Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher. Another good author in that genre is Kelly Armstrong (she writes about the same material as Kim Harrison and Laurel K. Hamilton , without Hamiltons usual 50 pages of plot, 250 pages of vampire porn, and 25 pages of plot wrapup)

Not the same ad Industrial fantasy, but World War Z by Max Brooks was also a excellent read. Both me and my brother loved that book

The cover often draws me in as well!

I LOVED The Host. It was a little slow at first but after they went to look for the humans it took off. At the end I felt it was a really beautiful book!

I'm sure The Ring would give me nightmares btw. The movie did.

I agree a love all those qualities, plus he never treated Bella like shit the way Edward did at first.

I LOVED the Dresden Files after the first book.

World War Z, I just couldn't get into though.

Thanks, 62. (Couldn't bring myself to write 'thank you" and bitchee in the same sentence...)

I started a series about a female werewolf with a radio talk show. It was ... challenging to finish.

Your Welcome
it's perfectly understandable, I'm just giving people fair warning with my name.
I hear that,
Turn Coat (The Dresden Files, Book 11) comes out in April
and
A Dance with Dragons (Song of Ice and Fire) - George R.R. Martin
this is now on the pre release list. I have to be in a great mood to read this series he tends to kill off the characters, and that can be a mood kill.

Jacqueline Carey is releasing a new book too I hope in the next few months I love her books.

I have read through what is out now by all of my usual authors and am searching for new writers. So Industrial_Bondage when are you starting to write? I hope soon. Speaking as a reading addict I need new sources for my addiction.

Me, too! But I can't get anybody else to read them...the romance fans don't like the BDSM angle, the fantasy fans are embarrassed by the covers (much less the actual content!), and the Laurell K. Hamilton and Anne Rice fans want their vampires... *sigh*

I love the Dresden Files (Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series is really good, too, but they're more high fantasy than urban - I heard him call them Roman Legion meets Pokemon in an interview once :) ) and the Hollows series, too. In fact, I've pretty much been squeeing over this entire thread! :D

I finished Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer today.

Then as is my wont, I immediately started on the fourth Odd book, Odd Hours by Dean Koontz. Someone (here?) recommended these books. I had sworn off Koontz as too scary but the Odd books are really good!

I agree about the Kushiel books! LOVE that series.

Also the Hallows series by Kim Harrison are very good.

And, yes, I enjoyed all the Dresden Files out so far.
