Reading Books For Pleasure

And as for reading fun stuff, I'm actually looking at Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six again.

It's one of two of his I can actually stomach. Sometimes the technical details are simply too much for me, but this one has action, and a nice 'environemtal activists going absolutely nuts' storyline, which is a bit different.

Ha!

I know that feeling... I tend to read mine on the bus sometimes, or my studyguides. I like to watch people who try and take a peek at what I'm reading, then get all confused.

Lehringer's Principles of Bio-whatnow?

muahahahahahahaha

*smiles* I get that a lot too. But books like "How to rid the world of the last 25 dictators by 2025" and "International Arms Dealing" gets me some very very strange looks. lol

Book four was my clear favorite of the series. Stuff actually happened for a change!

Saw the movie today. Movie Jacob is hawt for a baby boy!

Yeah, things actually moved along in book 4. And gawd, Jacob was just so protective of Reneesme!

Up next for me - Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. :D

What a terrible name for that child, IMO! I'm glad Jacob finally got someone to love who would love him back!

Let me know what you think of Heart Shaped Box.

Yes I agree there was lost more action in this one..

Oh cool about Jacob..I have yet to see the movie but I can't wait! :rose:

OMG I agree about the name of the baby..I was like what??

Do you think they will continue on with the story with Jacob and Renesme

And the middle name sucks too, IMO. Too much combining names. Here's an idea, give the kid her own damn name, how about that?

I hope so.

What is missing in all the books is WHY is Bella so able to block her thoughts and control herself? Why are she and Edward "meant" for each other? If there isn't a supernatural reason that the readers get told, at some point the books really fall apart for me.

I agree. Or the least that could have been done is rearrange them so that Carlie was her first name. That flows a little better for me. But I hate them calling her Nessie. :p

Oh I know poor child with her name..I felt sorry for her...

You are so right.i did not think of that..that would be a good thing to explore why Bella can do that...

:rose:

Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill is the epic fictional story of a young girl in Africa who was torn from everything she knew and forced into slavery. It goes from Africa to South Carolina, New York, Nova Scotia, improbably, back to Africa and finally to London.

In the first book there was a conversation between Bella and Edward that kind of made me wonder if she might be decended from vampires. The talk of her pale skin, and then about her mom, and how she was always youthful and pale. It might have been a thought that the author had but never continued on. But since Edward can also read other vamp minds, it doesn't fit.

I thought it was because of the fact that he can't read it is why they were ment to be, at least why she was ment for him anyway.

But I just started book two, so don't go further than chapter 3 in New Moon. :p

I'm finding it a harder read. I was so in love with Edward myself in the first one that his absence has made my attention less apearant as well. :(

That whole absence thing really bites. I agree.

Personally I don't buy the one true soul mate fated for you thing ever. I mean if I had "lived" for 500 years it sure wouldn't be a 17 year old. Even though Bella is an atypical teen for her age. I'd be looking for life experience, commonalities and deep conversations but that's just me.

You are right..I remember her talking about her pale skin.

Yeah New Moon was hard to read...without Edward there it just trudges along..

It's the quiet of her mind that he's attracted to. Imagine it. Every day of your life...which is a very long one (tho at this point only 100 for Edward he was born 1901 remember ;) ), hearing a constant stream of chatter in your head, and then finally meeting one person who's voice doesn't mingle with your own thoughts. It would be peaceful, soothing.

Maybe it's because of my own research into the posibilities of ESP that I kind of empathize with him.

There are other clues here and there...so far. Like her ability to smell blood, which was empisized to be different that what "normal" humans would be able to. Then there is Alice's vision, that Bella would some day be like them.

But like I said I'm still early into the saga. Chapter 10 of New Moon....tho I'm begining to get annoyed at her obliviousness...didn't she figure out Edward to be a vamp a lot sooner that what's taking her to figure out what I did 3 chapters ago?

Yes, she figured out what Edward was pretty quickly what with his color changing eyes and the way that while rescuing her he also damaged a couple of vehicles pushing them away from her.

However in this case, she has know the person all her life as normal. Only lately has he changed.

But he had already told her everything she needed to know. That's what frusterated me. I kept thinking about the ledgend he told her and then would think "Why can't you remember!" *giggles*

Pushed through and finished it yesterday. Now it's on to book three....as soon as the weather clears and I can go buy it!

For me the fourth book was the best.

:rose:

Yup me too!

I'm still plowing through Heart Shaped Box. I like Joe Hill's book better than his fathers, which is strange, because I love Stephen King stories, he just waffles on too much for my tastes. Joe Hill produces a much tighter plot.

Oh! I didn't realize he was King's son. Interesting.

BTW, I'm reading Plum Spooky right now! :D

I am jealous! I went to the book store yesterday to spent the last of my gift certificates and saw Plum Spooky but it was $30 (£18) - so I refrained and got three other books instead.

I would have done the same thing. I save my book store certificates for books I can't get from the library. Plum Spooky is too short to pay $30.00 for IMO.

I'm re-discovering Wilbur Smith, it's been years since I've read some of his books. Just read The Burning Shore and Rage - a great insight into the history of South Africa :)
