I still wonder if what is being said can somehow be over shadowed by the simple fact that the person's avs does not "catch" other peoples attention.
I think this happens, but who really misses out and/or cares?
Are some of the regulars the least bit worried that they might miss a message or comment simply because the memebers they "know" have changed their avs and you were not paying close enough attention?
Serious question here, really...
I guess these are the questions I couldn't find on the other thread.
"I still wonder if what is being said can somehow be over shadowed by the simple fact that the person's avs does not "catch" other peoples attention."
I think that probably does happen when people are just skimming through a thread. I know when I'm skimming over a block of flirting to see if there's any more substance to a thread, a new avatar will usually catch my eye and make me check who it belongs to. For those who don't spend as much time here, It probably needs to be "eye-catching" to attract attention.

I think it works both ways. Often I'll read a post by someone I normally skim over because their new avatar catches my eye. I don't think I miss many posts by people whose posts I normally read because they changed to a less eye-catching avatar.
For me, the avatars and/or usernames eye-catching factor don't determine whether I read the posts. The avatar/name does affect how I intepret what the post says at times -- usually when the words alone don't adequately express a clear meaning.
