Resident Evil: Return to Desperation

Ian

After his eyes had adjusted to the darkness, Ian looked for a way into the police station. Behind a couple of large Suv type police vehicles, Ian saw a small spot of light. He sees a door that is partially open. He gets closer and sees a hand sticking out of the door. He motions the other two men to come closer. He kneels down and peeks around the door. He sees a scene of infinite carnage.

Ian kicks the hand to see if its owner stirs, but nothing moves. Ian pulls the door open further. He peers into the room and sees bodies everywhere. There are bodies of cops strewn around the room, many just randomly pieces all over the room. Lots of the bodies look to be chewed.

What the fuck is this ? What is going on here? Are these creatures human or something even stranger?

Ian could also see a lot of people in regular clothing that looked awefully pale. These must have been the people that attacked the cops. Ian leads the others around the murderous scene. He checks the cops for any signs of life, but they are all gone. They start to walk away from the scene when some of the people begin to get to there feet. There are five of them that unsteadily make it to there feet. Their fevered eyes shine brightly at the three men , hungering for the taste of human flesh.

DM

Mr. X walked over to the section where he saw the men running on cameras, and heard just in time the doors lock shut electronicly. Raising his fist and smashing the pannels in, he shorted out the electrical systems to that door. moving around doing the same to all doors, he then heard voices comming through the cracks. they sounded liek they were from a radio. Ripping open a tin pipe contining heavy calbes into that room, he slashed them all. the small cracks of light comming through the door suddenly went black. and the room was filled with sudden silence.

Chewwie and team, i think you can handle that for now, doing fine.

The propane exploded, sending shards of glass splaying out in all directions. the glass in the van also impoded. but then again, the Zombies were no where in sight.

Carter

Looks like I nailed them all. I ran over to the car and tried to start it but the engine wouldn't turn. I popped the hood and discovered the engine had been smashed to pieces, apparently these zombies are smarter than the old black and white movies give them credit for.

I slung the duffle bag over my shoulder, looks like if I want to get back to the station I'm going to have to walk. I headed down the street, toward the station. Magnum in one hand, semi-automatic in the other, not knowing what to expect next.

DM

OOC: uh, PM.... i understand you had a pistol, magnum? okay. but where did the SMG come from? or is this that SWAT van? and you lifted it off them?

IC: Two zombies crawled over the seats and out of the van. their trap had been spoiled. the crept along behind the man.

OOC: The van was left at the police station a while back. I took a dufflebag filled with weapons and put them in the patrol car. He took the bag from the patrol car in the last post, I believe.

IC: I decided I better take a shorcut through the park, didn't want to be seen just walking out in the open like this.

Ian

Ian turns his shotgun towards the closest man and fires off a blast that basically takes its head off. The body falls forward and sprays a fountain of blood all over Ian's pants. Ray and Jason open fire with their weapons , spraying the advancing men with a hail of lead. One other man meets his end , his body parts falling onto the blood smeared floor. The three remaining men continue to push forward under a hail of fire.

Ian yells to the other men, "Come on , lets see if we can find a better place to defend." He leads them further into the room and down a narrow hallway. "Ok, now they can only come one at a time, lets blast them. " So saying, Ian fired more shotgun pellets into the advancing man. Then he pulled back to reload and Jason jumped into the breach , firing his gun at the men.

The three men were starting to gel as a team, and seeing that these creatures, call them zombies even, were hard to kill; it was a godsend that they worked well together. Another creature went down, knocking down the two others. The three men stepped closer and pumped bullets after bullets into the three creatures on the ground. The creatures writhed in pain, their limbs flailing out in extreme agony. The movement stopped abruptly, like a watch that has lost its wound.

Ian waited a minute, watching for signs of life, or unlife in the creatures. When no movement was detected, Ian breathed a sigh of relief. Then he heard a loud noise from up above. It took him a moment to recognize the sounds, with all the shooting, his ears were ringing. It was the sounds of gunfire coming from the next floor up. Ian reloaded his shotgun and looked around for the stairs.

The room witch moments earlier had been war zone, now stood quiet. Everyone waited on Hicks, waiting to hear what he knew. Slowly Hicks raised his head, a slight tear rolled down his cheek. In a strained voice, he began to speak.

" It all started a few weeks ago, I don't know what caused it or how it came about. We started to get calls into the station regarding domestic violence. Now true its not uncommon for people to fight and have it get out of control, but when you start getting fifteen to twenty calls a day regarding it then you have to wonder. People began to just start attacking each other, lash out with violence and rage. Now for a small town like this, that's unheard of. Then things began to get worse, as reports came in that people were killing each other, some reports stated cannibalism. Then about a week ago the Feds show up, along with representatives from a corporation named Umbrella. The Feds told us they were taking over all operations and that we were subject to their direct orders. Then military units started showing up, but they weren't your regular US military, no they were in fact some sort of special forces related to Umbrella.
It was about this time that we were told that we no longer were allowed to enter the second and third levels of the station, that only authorized personal were allowed in there. Then those soldiers working for Umbrella started bring in, what we called infected people. I don't know what happened to them, but they were taken down to the second level. We were kept in the dark about what was going on and were told to continue our daily routines of patrolling the town, as well as keeping the station secure, but things were getting worse. Not knowing what was going on, plus being denied any information was killing moral. The only one who I know for a fact that was informed on what was going on was the Police Chief but he refused to answer any of our questions."

Then Yon interrupted Hicks, " What happened . . . to the town, the police force. You make it sound like it was under control, but by the looks of things, all hell has broken lose"

Sgt. Hicks looked at Yon, the expression on his face told him that what he was about to say was painful.

"Things were under control for the most part, that is till about three days ago. I don't know what happened, but all hell broke lose. It seemed that what we thought was a minor infection to the town, had blown up to a full scale epidemic. The feds tried to organize a counter attack to stem off this surge, but their numbers were far to great, and we lacked the man power, as well as the fire power needed. We lost a lot of good officers, I lost a lot of close friends. I still have a hard time dealing with this, seeing your buddy ripped to shreds by a mob of flesh hungry people. We were basically forced to hold up in the station, the feds promised that backup would be sent in to get us out. Then last night something happened. I was manning the dispatch desk, Rick and Lewis were in the control room were you found us. It was late and most of us were tired from the stress and lack of sleep. Then gun shots started going off, people screaming and yelling for help. I grabbed my weapon and headed towards the detectives offices, men were scrambling everywhere. I couldn't make out all that was being said but everyone was being order down to the second and third levels, some sort of emergency.
As I made my way towards the steps that lead down I saw dead bodies everywhere, wounded men littered the stairway. As I made my way down, the gun shots grew louder, along with the screams. I. . .I. . I got scared and turned back, I ran away. I bumped into doctor Jones as I was making my way out into the lobby. I grabbed her and found Rick and Lewis. I told them something got lose down below and was killing everybody, and that it was best if we tried to hide. We barricaded ourselves in one of the conference rooms, then a short time later the power went out, locking us in. I don't know what happened to everybody down there, or if there's any survivors, but I do know something is lurking down there. Im sorry for pointing a gun at you Yon, I just got. . . ."

Sgt. Hicks trailed off, as he hung his head again and began to sob. Yon felt sorry for the man, he was cracking and couldn't control his emotions anymore. Yon turned to Rick, " So the armory is down on the second level then." Rick nodded his head, he too seemed tense. " Well we need to get down there and grab some better equipment, but if something is lurking down there I doubt what we have will help us against it, any other places were we can aquire weapons" asked Yon. Lewis spoke up, " We can check the locker room that's next to the detective offices, those guy always had an extra gun stashed away, could also check the chiefs office, I do recall him having a gun safe in there."

Yon nodded his approval, " lets get to it then, times not on our side" said Yon as he loaded his last clip into his riffle. " I have a question I want answered before we head out" said Rick. Yon looked at Rick, unsure of what was on the mans mind. Rick turned to doctor Jones and pointed at her. " I want to know where she fits in, what's her story, I don't recall seeing her in the station until all this happened." Again the room was quiet, as all eyes were turned on the doctor, they patiently waited for her response.

Dr. Jones

DAMN him...damn damn damn...

The doctor looked at Rick, her fear seeming to imbue each breath she took.

"I...I worked for Umbrella. I'm a chemical biologist...we...we were down there trying to help those people. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but the feds and I were just trying to help you all."

She swallows, looking down at the floor and trying to collect herself before continuing...from down below something suddenly cries out, to be answered by half a dozen other screams.

Rick, finishing his check to ensure his gun is fully loaded, asks as gently as he could manage, "What happened to the feds?"

The gun quivers in trembling and white knuckled hands, but Dr. Jones' voice gets stronger.

"A week ago we started...testing chemicals...to cure the infected patients. A dozen or so would be injected at a time, injected to see if they would recover...then we would place them in specially designed isolation chambers. You have to understand, we just wanted to help them. Something...something went terribly wrong though. Instead of reversing the infection by destroying whatever it was that caused all of this, the people started mutating more...teeth grew longer, bones thicker...some...got smarter. Those were the dangerous ones...they started the ruckus on the third day of experiments down below, on the third level. Apparently, from the briefing I got, they had become dozens of times stronger then any human and had attacked one another...until only one was in each of the chambers..." Dr. Jones drops the gun between her shaking hands.

Taking a deep, shuddering breath, she continues though, "There were thirty chambers down on the third level...and five on a newer level below that. We had stacked them in order of injection levels...the ones up top hadn't been injected at all...those are the creatures we have been fighting since we started. They are nothing compared to the lower levels though...I...saw one...during a briefing examining what was happening. I swear it came directly from a science fiction movie. It...looked almost human...moreso then these things, except...it had wings. About three days ago, the creatures were getting finicky and the decision was made to put them down...they were getting far, far too dangerous to be contained here. About an hour after I came in to work, one broke out and started tearing around those levels. I...I didn't see what happened to the people, but they were announcing a lockdown. Two dozen special forces men equipped with rifles and grenades headed down. I...thought everything would be alright, but I was wrong...so wrong. They...we didn't receive any more warnings, there was a cacophany of gunfire on the fourth level then about ten minutes of silence. I had thought that they had put it down, but then the gunfire opened up again...it...it didn't stop suddenly...it took about fifteen minutes...one gun silencing after another...there was a moment more of quiet then something exploded...something large, shaking the floors. It was announced that...a portion of level three had collapsed. We were told to remain calm, the federal agents had everything under control."

Dr. Jones breaks at this point, her voice cracking and face buried in her hands, mumbled words escape from behind those pale fingers. Sgt. Hicks quickly comes over to comfort her and she sobs against his chest.

???

OOC: can i take it that the one that escaped and lived, was Mr. X? is that what you're implying?

Ian

Two more doors down the corridor was where Ian discovered the stairs. He lead the others to them. He looked through the small glass window and could not see anything lurking. He slowly opened the door to the stairwell, holding his shotgun at the ready in front of him. He looked around and gave Ray and Jason an Ok sign that the coast was clear.

He continues to hold his shotgun at the ready, remaining ever vigilant. As he begins to surmount the stairs, a large crash is heard and all the lights go out in the building. Ian tries to remain calm as he tries to get the lantern to light again.

Dammit, why wont this damn thing light. Its getting very spooky in here with the lights out.

Ian asks the others to light their lanterns since his seems not to work now. The other two men scramble to get their lanterns lit. Ian can hear some noises in the background as he grinds his teeth waiting for the blessed light to reappear.

DM

Two licker scrambled along the celing and just before the lights went out, heard some talking. bolting in that direction, they rounded a corner in darkness and hear swearing and whispering. all the small group heard, was a slow quiet slithering hiss.

Yon Culpepper

Yon listened to what Doctor Jones had to say, he was left with an uneasy feeling inside. Sgt. Hicks and Dr. Jones stories left Yon with one conclusion, to get the hell out of this town. Seeing the state that both Hicks and the Doctor were in made Yon feel uncomfortable, they would be no use to the group in their current state. Yon spoke up, " Maybe its best if you two stay here, while we check out the Detectives offices and locker room. Sgt. Hicks gave a nod and the other two officers also gave their approval.

The three of them made their way across the lobby to the doors leading to the detectives offices, all three men were tense, their muscles straining. Rick pushed open the door and the other two men swarmed in, guns pointed, scanning the room.
They were greeted by a grizzly sight of death and destruction, the men slowly moved about the room, making sure all was secure. After about ten minuets of searching the dead, Rick called out, " All secure," the other two men replied in the same response. Upon searching the room the men came across a few weapons, mostly shot guns and 9 MM, they also found some bodyarmor along with some hand held radios.
Upon securing the room and searching for equipment the men made there way to the locker room, witch was connected to the detective offices. The three men quickly busted open the lockers, searching for weapons and supplies. Upon busting open one locker Yon found a 30/30, along with a box full of ammunition. Rick also managed to find a few sets of night vision equipment along with some boxes of armor piercing rounds. "Looks like these boys knew how to pack" said Yon, as he began to bag the equipment. " No fooling" blurted Lewis, as he pulled out Mac 10 from one of the lockers. " Lets get this stuff back to the lobby and gear up, then we'll hit the chiefs office" said Yon as he began to make his way out of the locker room.

OOC: rough, i don't see how sawing off the barrel would multiply it's power....

Ian

Ian curses silently under his breath as neither of the other lanterns will light either. They can all hear a hissing noise at this point and are all looking around frantically trying to pierce the veil of darkness with their human eyes. Then Ian remembers that he had taken a flashlight and placed it in a vest pocket. The hissing sound is getting closer. Ian fumbles in his pocket for the flashlight. He tries to turn it on feverishly and is finally rewarded with a slash of brilliant light. He groans as his eyes adjust to the light, while he trains the light towards the source of the noise.

The light illuminates two hideous clinging to the ceiling. The light momentarily blinds the two creatures as the companions start to get ready for the upcoming battle.

DM

The two lickers are suddenly blinded and stunned. licker #2 flicks his tongue out and grabs the flashlight. tossing it down the hall some, causing it to go out. they slowly began to descend on the party....

Carter

OOC: Guys can we try to avoid posting really really long posts unless it's really necessry?

IC: I had been walking nearly all day now and decided to take a break by a fountain in the heart of the park. Funny, this place was probably bustling with activity on a beautiful spring day, like today, but the entire city has gone into hiding apparently. I put the duffle bag down and layed down on one of the benches.

DM

OOC: lol okay.

IC: a pack of dogs and their walkers hear the creaking of a bench, and start heading sowly to it. scouting the area.

Carter

I thought I heard a twig snap, like someone was headed my way. I quickly slipped into the fountain, hoping I would go unseen.

Ian

When the two creatures were momentarily stunned, Ian was able to get off a shotgun blast at one of the creatures. It hit the creature full in the body and Ian could hear a cry of pain. Then the other creature pulls the flashlight out of Ians hand and its smashed onto the floor. Ian backs up into the darkness, firing blindly where the creatures had just been.

Yon Culpepper

The group hears the blasts coming from across the room, nearing that area the can tell the blast are coming from the stair way. The group takes positions behind desks scatered around the door way, they position their weapons on the door, waiting to see what emerges.

DM

*reminder to roughneck* all the doors there are barred by Mr. X and your lights are out, as the electicity has been cut to that room.

One of the lickers took a shotgun shell to the chest and dropped frm the Celing. the other disposed of the flashlight the small group fired at the one of the celing. but the one of the floor had moved foreward. leaping into the air it tackled one of the people, the one on the celing was nailed but a couple of small arms fire to the lower legs as it also surges forard.

Carter

I had been waiting in the fountain for at least a half hour now. Luckily there was no water in it, or I surely would have caught pnemonia by now. I went to grab my bag to go but it was no where in site. Someone lifted my weapons!! Luckily I kept a small beretta on me, but I only had one clip. I figured I best move before I got myself into anymore trouble.

The doctor held her pistol shakily, scared...almost terrified. Sgt. Hicks had released her at least five minutes ago and returned to watching the room, but she was still worried. When would the others return?

Ian

Ian was hit hard by the creature that had fallen to the floor. He was knocked to the floor with the creature on top of him. Luckily, the shotgun was wedged in between the two of them. The creature had landed with the shotgun wedged up against its sternum. Ian pulled the trigger and the shotgun discharged into the creature. Some of the pellets deflected off the creature and struck him above his right eye. It opened up a cut , making it hard to see. But he was able to make out the licker flying off of him , blood dripping off of its body.

DM

the licker took a shotfun blast to the chest, it's thick ribcage absorbing most of the damage, it jumped off, to go lick it's wounds elsewhere, it would be fine, but it's chest was shredded up

the second Licker lept into the men behind the Ian person.
