RIP Lindsey Graham

So the governor of South Carolina will nominate Graham's sister to his now-vacant Senate seat. She has no experience with the military but will take Graham's seat on the powerful Senate Military Appropriations committee.

Fuck.
Kegsbreath was bad, but he had SOME military experience.
Now we have a literal MAGA "DEI hire" who will be paid to learn about the military at government expense.
How do you know that she will assume his chairmanship?

America's "manufacturing base" left the country in the period 1973-1993.
It will never come back.
The cost basis of American manufacturing far exceeds the cost of labor in third world countries.

There is no way on earth your wishful thinking can ever manifest itself in reality.
I will admit that factory investment is returning faster than manufacturing employment. We have to remember America's manufacturing base is not simply returning to the way it existed in 1950, but a new industrial revival is underway. The evidence is the unprecedented investment in strategic manufacturing sectors such as semiconductors, advanced technology, energy systems, and critical supply chains. The goal is not to eliminate global commerce, but to ensure that America retains the industrial capacity necessary for economic strength and national security. It is a fact that factory investment is returning faster than manufacturing employment because modern factories are far more automated than those of previous generations. The "return" is often a return of industrial capability, not necessarily millions of old-style factory jobs. That distinction matters to my previous observations.

How do you know that she will assume his chairmanship?
I never said that she would assume his chairmanship.
She will presumably get his committee seat on every committee he was a member of.
Since she becomes the member with the least seniority in the Senate, she will not get any chairman or vice-chairman positions....these positions will go to the Senator with the highest seniority.

The fact that she will be on any Senate committees at all makes a mockery of a democratic republic. Senate seats are not
"hereditary".

Majority Leader Thunes says Darline Graham Nordone will be sworn in at 2:30 tomorrow.

They need legislation regarding congresspeople being sworn in. The partisan ability for Senators and Reps to have to wait to be sworn in is horrible.

So the governor of South Carolina will nominate Graham's sister to his now-vacant Senate seat.
This is not uncommon when there's a short period left in the term. She'll be Senator for six months.

I'm old enough to remember when Hubert Humphrey died and his widow was appointed to the seat. Nobody complained about it.

Is there anything the US government doesn't subsidize? :)

His Dragon Lady concubine was wired into the moguls in China, who were kept on a very tight leash by the Chinese government. Trump may have had his big payday last year, but I have to think that the offshore bank accounts of McConnell and his wife likely contain hundreds of millions of dollars.
Even without hard evidence of collusion between his wife's family shipping business and the CCP, the political utility of an executive calling their family Senator remains blindingly obvious.

She won't. She's 100th in seniority.
That's what I'm thinking. I can't imagine the power-soaked denizens of the Senate surrendering a chairmanship to a complete novice. She'll need a top security clearance as well.

How so? Explain in detail.
Watch the video of Lindsey Graham fiercely attacking the Democrats' efforts to destroy his character. It was, IMO, Graham's finest hour. He was ferocious in defending Kavanaugh. I remember my late wife saying "Where did Lindsey Graham get a backbone and when does he have to give it back?"

You might want to ask his first wife about that.
Don’t know about her. But my opinion is based on his political life and what I know of it. He served. He was a captive who refused to be broken and insisted others got released before him. A man of valor, and that counts in my book.

If you have something to share about her, go for it. Don’t smirk and sit back touting some dark secret. Bring it to the light, Smily.
