Sarah Palin

Who care about the owners? They don't ever post here. Just commenting on the 99% of you who won't except anything but the furthest left viewpoint.
So I was right. You, in the words of Valcav Havel, regard any dissent as naked terrorism.

Sigh. Another person on my ignore list.

ROB is a waste of bandwidth. He lives with his mother and has a cat.

Personal attacks such as these do not become you, JBJ.

You have a right to your opinion on political matters, even though I disagree with it strongly, but personal attacks are the mark of someone who has no arguments to support his case.

The question of Mccain's judgment is fast becoming a central issue here.

It's not clear that she understood the demands that would be made on her as a VEEP candidate. She has to be crash-coursed in the subtleties of foreign policy while maintaining a punishing campaign schedule, fending off an abusive and angry press (they're furious at being fooled) and trying to keep her family together, caring for a 5 month-old special-needs infant and pregnant teenage daughter and still fulfilling her duties as governor of Alaska. It's going to be a terribly gruelling two months. I don;t know if anyone could handle this.

Doc briefly touched on the one thing that is my main concern. (boldface mine)

Sarah Palin is the mom of a months old special needs child. She has 5 children, one of whom is currently pregnant. In my mind, the responsible thing would have been for her to say "Thank you, Senator McCain. I am flattered, and I will support your campaign completely. I can even campaign with you. Currently, however, my family is going through some very difficult periods of adjustment, and I feel that I will not be able to give my best effort to either if I split my focus." Remaining governor, where she is able to be close to home, cannot compare to the circus that will occur in the coming 60 plus days until the election.

Before anyone jumps me, I have had a pregnant teenage daughter (which of course, MUST make me a bad mom!). Yes, she married the father of her child, but I know how much she still needed MOM to be there with and for her. In my opinion, there are times when family obligations trump personal and professional opportunities, even if one is qualified for them.

And yes, if we were talking about MR Palin instead of Mrs.... I would say the same thing.

Shields up.... fire away.

Laughing -

And thinking how appropriate it is that on a political thread the topic has shifted to poo.

:D

*laugh* Good point! Maybe we should shift ALL of the political discussions to poo and get back to talking about writing.

It's the great equlizer! We all poo. We all know poo.

We can all agree, yes, poo, it happens.

I am certain there is a serious quote in there somewhere.

Some are flingers, some are doers - perhaps?

With a 72 year-old president, there is no such thing as a ceremonial VP.

A ceremonial VP? If the president dies, she's the president! That whole "heartbeat away from the presidency" thing isn't just rhetoric. And McCain is fairly old. Even if he wasn't, young people die every day, and the president is often a target. We can't afford to have a whack job for VP, because that could end up giving us a(nother) whack job for president.

Ha! And oops! His age slipped my mind for a moment. I certainly don't disagree, but I meant that she'd be attending funerals and inaugurations, not negotiating peace treaties - unless she had to.

Wow!!

Great theatre.

Levi Johnston, the admitted father is going down to Minn to join Bristol and they'll make some public appearances. Campaigning for mom?!

Contrary to his facebook page, which says he's a f****in macho man, with no intention to have kids, it appears Levi really planned, all along, to marry her.

Sarah, it must be said, is a very innovative campaigner.

I imagine it will be a shotgun public appearance in Minnesota.

:D

No government does not mean that society is not run in any way. A lot of people are confused on that point.

We would still have a well run society. Or we would still be trying to have a well run society. And how we would run that society is still the subject of great debate among those of us who call ourselves anarchists.

The one thing we all completely agree on is that we shouldn't do it by handing over a great deal of power to a select few. Things seem to get pear shaped when you do that.
If I may...

The difference between a libertarian and an anachist seems, as I've learned to reconize them, to be that a libertarian wants to minimize the state's control over individuals. But anachists aren't satisfied with that, but also wants to minimize other kinds of power over the individual - like the corporation's financial power or religion's and culture's social power.

Therein lies also the left/right divide. The libertarian trusts the free market, the anachist don't.

I guess that makes me a causious libertarian with a mild anarchist streak. Or something.

An anarchist wants a license to do as he pleases, everyone else be damned.

I, for one, fail to see why a 'libertarian state' would be better than a 'statist' one.

The same types of people exist in either system. Some are going to be highly ethical people. Some are not.

The only difference will be the tools available to them to pursue their goals. It's a poor workman who blames his tools. ;)
