Sarah Palin

I saw the clip also, but what you failed to mention is that she was speaking to a group of second graders. Technically, she was incorrect, but it was easier to put it the way she did than to give a detailed factual description.

Box - Palin is on video at four separate events, claiming the job of VP can be expanded on a whim. Only one of these events involved third graders. Keith Olbermann did a piece on this subject, showing all 4 video clips. Sure, he's biased, but the Palin footage speaks for itself. She's either really stupid, or really ambitious. (Actually, it's probably both.)

That horse is dead. You don't have to flog it. I get that you don't agree with my smaller government philosophy.

No sense in seizing every chance to belittle me for it.

I have my own philosophy and the courage of my convictions. I am not, and never have been a liberal Democrat. Probably never will be. It's contrary to my view of the nature of Man and natural order of things. Not to mention my ideas of liberty and justice. That's not a reason to put me down all of the time.

It's not like I put you down for your ideology.

Let's just get off this topic and back to the beer game. It's more fun than dismissing each other's political beliefs.

You rightly get offended when people put down Mormons. It's the same way with me and Libertarians.

I wasn't making fun of your political leanings; I was making fun of the way you constantly state it. There's a difference.

I think that probably depends on the outcome of the election. :|

After Nov. 4th, Levi might have a change of heart.

I know folks think he's roped in (and in some ways, he is) but I think he'll stick with the current plan. Young love is strong, and I think he honestly loves her. Now, whether or not they'll be divorced in 5 years I'd be willing to lay odds on...

WTF Box! The chick either LIED or is STUPID and I'm not sure which is worse!

Maybe it would be better if she just went for the Full Monte: "Yes, boys and girls, if your mommy and daddy vote for McCain, Santa will come down your chimney this Christmas" is only "technically" incorrect too."

Concerning Sarah Palin's $150,000 wardrobe bill, I think it's amazing that no one's mention the $300,000 Cindy McCain spent on the outfit she wore when she addressed the Republican National Convention. A big chunk of that was for her pearls and jewelry, but still... That much for clothes seems kind of obscene to me.

It is obscene. Her outfit wouldn't even qualify for a tax cut under Obama's plan.

However, the RNC didn't pay for Cindy's duds. If she wants to be obscene with her own money, that's her business.

That did get some coverage back around the RNC, but that's neither here nor there because, as Impressive said, Cindy McCain wears her own money.

My take on this is that someone decided that Sarah Palin had to wear clothes that were more or less comparable to the kinds of outfits that Cindy McCain wears regularly since the two would be seen together very frequently. I'd put good money on that idea having been proffered by the Palin camp as they have a history of redistributing tax dollars in their own favor (witness the practices of billing the Alaska treasury for a per diem while staying in her own home, taking the children on trips to attend conferences in New York City and charging the kids' rooms and meals on her expense report, etc.).

However it shakes out, this simply adds to the gathering evidence that Palin is a calculating and ambitious politician.

I understand the red states do have have worse divorce statistics than blue ones.

Well, earlier marriages tend to fail more, and as someone born in a red state, I know that people from those states tend to marry younger. :(

I saw her in an interview with a "real reporter" as she gave that same answer. The question came from a 3rd grader, but it was not in front of a group of children.

And why would it be OK to give an incorrect answer to a group of 2nd or 3rd graders? She could give a FACTUAL yet age appropriate answer to that question. For heavens sake, she HAS children. There have to have been times she had to answer a difficult question in children's terms.

I'm sorry, but unless McCain manages to pull a rabbit out of his hat, Palin will be viewed in history as the Trojan Horse of this campaign. Looks pretty, very interesting, come on in and we will admire you...but deadly from the inside.

I would agree with that, mainly because in the last two years I have watched my childrens' friends marry at a very young age and an alarming rate. They are high school sweethearts who probably always intended to marry right out of high school.

On the other side, my daughter has a sweet, funny, and very smart friend who had one stupid night and is now pregnant. She is having the baby, and the father is involved. However, she is not in love with him and will not marry him just because of the baby.

I know. I did it. And while we made it past 5 years, we separated then, got back together, and then divorced at 8.

I have to wonder: How many trips have male Governors taken their children on without anyone auditing the books? What about Chelsea Clinton? Or the Bush twins?

I understand she is running on a "reformer" credential and that makes this relevant. And certainly I have never had a job that would have paid for me to take my kids on a business trip.

Still, with all the other things that are wrong with this candidate, this particular issue does not seem worthy of as much attention, IMHO.

I agree. This issue falls way down my list of problems with this candidate. I also agree, if this is going to be used as an issue, the male Governors need to be examined as well.

I'm just damned agreeable this afternoon.:D

I can't speak to the practices of other governors, male or female, so I won't.

Seems to me that one of the reasons why this story is grabbing headlines right now is due to the way that Palin and the McCain campaign have positioned her as a fiscally savvy and tight-fisted reformer. All those stories about her "selling that plane on e-bay" and "firing the chef in the governor's mansion" were put out there for a purpose. Part of her appeal was supposed to be based on the image of her being fiscally prudent.

Yep. Uh huh. Saves the peoples' money all the time, that Sarah Palin.

Yes, Philadelphia. And naming a son Zamboni is the punchline from an old joke from the 80s--which probably only now has made its way to Alaska.

I don't actually mind a candidate putting this sort of humor into answers to innocuous questions. McCain has a good zinger on occasion.
