Sarah Palin

Treason, indeed.

Light blue is so not her color. Do you think she shoots wolves in that coat?

I was speaking of politics, not fashion. ;) To be honest, I have no fashion sense, whatsoever. It wasn't exactly encouraged under the old regime, so I grew up without one. Too much concern with appearance was largely dismissed as contrary to the kind of Prussian "Spartan military ethos" of austerity and simplicity that earned us our derisive nickname of "Red Prussians". ;)

Israel has offered the Palestinians just about everything they wanted, including half of Jerusalem. They rejected it and continued with terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians. There have been days where literally hundreds of Katyusha rockets have been fired into Israel, targeting civilians. The Palestinians also want The East Bank but Jordan won't give it to them. No Arab nation has given aid to the Palestinians, except in the form or arms to murder Jews. Whats more, who would want a terrorist state next door? If Canadians were doing to Americans what the Palestinians have been doing to the Israelis would America put up with it? Israel has been under attack for decades, yet they have done all they can to try to placate the Palestinians -- in return they face more terrorist attacks.

I believe you're underestimating Israeli innocence, which is understandable. We never hear anything of Israeli attacks on Palestinians.

Any disagreement always takes two, not one.

I see. I also got the impression that Christians here are very pro-Israel (quite different from German Christians, I tell you).

Well, pretty much nearly everyone in this country will say they're pro-Israel, because anyone who might even be perceived as "Arab" (as evidenced by the woman who said Obama was one) is "other" and hence "evil." We seem, as a nation, to have to have someone to fight with, to pin the blame on. At one time, it was communists. Now it's terrorists.

Land of the free, home of the brave? *sigh*

But hey, if I say that, I might be seen an "anti-American" right?

The definition of terrorism could be applied to any group, depending on what "side" you're on.

ter·ror·ism -noun 1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.

Ah.

Well, to be perfectly fair, many Authors' Hangout denizens choose to not wear any apparel at all (see - the Naked Party Thread and various AVs).

So you may not pick up any pointers here, either. ;)

Israel has been a stout US ally since, well, since the beginning, and among a ceratin part of the conservatives, there's a "stand by our allies, right or wrong" kind of attitude. This is, generally, the same demographics that are "bible belt" Christians. But for the most part, it's probably just a correlation.

Then there are the islamophobes. You rarely find those among secular people. (Except Christopher Hitchens, but he's weird)

Hey, there's nothing wrong with being red. ;)

Funny. The term is a reference to the fact that while we were Communists, our basic Prussian culture didn't really change. In fact, Communism just gave us another excuse to be a very regimented society.

Over here it is sometimes a reference to skin color, so nothing wrong with it at all. :D

Ah, yes, the American Indians, yes? Met a few, here or there. They have a reservation or two somewhere in East Texas. I have read that the whole reservation thing was a white excuse to steal the natives' land, or something like that. Not that this ever seemed to bother Bush (he was my Governor before he was President). Then again, nothing seems to bother him, except for the idea of gays getting married, which to me is the best argument for it- to piss off the lunatic that I've had to endure for 10 years now. ;)

Actually, he reminds me of Kaiser Wilhelm II, but without the Kaiser's sense of taste or decorum. Both were buffoons who foolishly started wars that were totally pointless.

Well, now you've met another. :)

Earlier, you were wondering why there seemed to be some harshness in your reception. Here is an example of why.

When entering a new environment, it is wise to try to gain an understanding of it before saying or doing anything extreme. For example, a new boss would be wise to evaluate the work ethics of his new employees to avoid mistakes like, say, yelling and scremaing at someone about how "Tardiness will no longer be tolerated!" only to find out she had a car accident, called people in the office whose number was on her cell and had not been late for work in two years.

Kinda makes people think the new boss is a jerk, you see? Even though his original idea, that tardiness is wrong, is valid.

Cloudy is, as we all know, EXTREMELY proud of her Native American heritage. Because you are new, you are unaware of this and thus just put your foot in your mouth. Doesn't mean you are a bad person... but certainly has the potential to offend.

It would be wise to learn the players before criticizing their portrayals.

Yes, I was I suppose, but I cannot condone attacks on Palestinians by settlers. Never stoop to conquer. Nor can I condone the IDF bulldozing the homes of the families of suicide bombers. Those things are simply wrong.

Choctaw, but my SO is Ojibwe.

Cool. Isn't Choctaw one of the Five Civilized Tribes, originally from the Southeast. The ones that President Jackson illegally removed from their land in defiance of the Supreme Court? Ones that seemed to be quite different from the negative stereotypes, having a written language and a well-organized government and economy, from what I've read.

See, I have read up a little about the history of American Indians or Native Americans.

Whoa. Haven't been in Israel and surrounds much, have you? If I were to have to pick two words to describe their stance toward their region, one would be "subjugation" and the other would be "preemption." "Accommodation" wouldn't ever come into consideration.

That would have been nice to know. Hopefully, I didn't offend her.

You didn't - I took into account what you didn't know.

Yes, we are one of the "five civilized tribes," along with the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole - a misnomer, since all nations were civilized, to our way of thinking.

Oh hell, we all learn by doing, and we've all put our collective foot in our mouth as newbies...

And some people are just more blunt than others. *shrug*

Agreed.

And personally, I'm more concerned about his stance on semi-colon use.

:)

Glad that I haven't stepped on any more toes. I seem to have a certain talent for it of late. Just ask my ex-wife. ;)

Ah, must work on punctuation, I see.

No - no!

That was a joke, I'm sorry!

Vonnegut's quote about them, the quote in your sig line, I thought you'd catch it.

"...do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites, standing for absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college."

:rose:

Sorry, I lost a few thousand brain cells this morning, so I missed that. ;) But that's a hilarious quote. The only person that I know who hates semi-colons. ;)

Oh, but it was worth losing those brain cells. Beer truly is a wonder! Especially with fried chicken for breakfast.

I started the brain cell loss, then fell asleep. Too wiped out from yesterday.

We're going for round two tonight.
