Sarah Palin

By now everyone's heard that SP couldn't name the countries that were signatory to NAFTA, I suppose? And that she thought Africa was a country and not a continent? (I know. I find that one very hard to believe myself.) And that South Africa was a region in that country and not a sovereign nation?

Hey, don't blame me. These are facts being leaked by the Republican campaign to Fox News. You have to wonder why. Are feelings running that bad between the McCain and Palin camp?

Whenever I see Sarah Palin I have an overwhelming urge to tie her up, ball-gag her, and do naughty things to her. This uppity MILF needs to be taught her place: at my feet, sucking my toes.

Interesting urge. Watch your balls, though.

In any case, Sarah Palin was the dealbreaker that cost McCain my vote, so I know for a fact that at least with me, she did hurt him. Whatever the pundit might say.

Palin ain't the sharpest bulb on the tree, but she ain't a complete idiot either.

I can't help but wonder if some McCain campaign staffers, worried about their futures, are scrambling to cover their asses for the stupid campaign they ran and are trying to blame the loss on that "hillbilly from Wasilla."

Snobby, insider wannabe staffers looking down their noses at Palin and not properly prepping her before they threw her to the media just might have made her rebel and it might help explain her clothing spending and "rogue" actions.

Did I hear someone say they'd gotten Bingo?

Yeah, but they're also making McCain look very bad now with what they're saying about her, reinforcing the idea that he didn't vet her and didn't really care that she wasn't ready to be VP, as well as painting a picture of a candidate who was wholly out of control of his campaign.

I can't see where anyone associated with McCain's campaign is going to be doing anything significant in the business in the near future anyhow.

I agree. And it's very disturbing to me. Had the economy not gone south, he might very well have won.

How can she suck your toes if she's wearing a ball gag?

It's been a main featured article on my Aussie online newspaper all day.

pity,

sarah's getting slagged by mccainites. the 'africa' story etc.

mccain and advisors decided to follow Rush Limbaugh and take on the lady, and pretend to lurch to the right. they failed, in the process, to get the center-- and, sadly, failed to convince the far out right-wing skeptics McCain was one of 'em. Rush now says, 'no conservatives [except Sarah] were running'.

i do love the part about her own speech Sarah prepared to deliver just before McCain's concession!

Ambitious little cunt, she is.

I find it hard to believe that SP couldn't name the nations in NAFTA, unless her questioner used an unfamiliar acronym, or something like thst. Do you have any proof that she really didn't know? I got used to providing proof when people insisted I do so during the recent presidential campaign.

South Africa is a part of Africa, besides being the name of a nation, just as south Florida is a region in the USA. I don't believe she was actually unaware that it is a nation, unless she prefers the name The Union of South Africa, or some other reason.

I mean, she did graduate from high schol and from college with a degree in Journalism, and she did get elected to several political offices. I find it hard to believe somebody could do these things and still be so ignorant.

I'm not necessarily defending the lady, but I don't lke to see people unfairly atacked. Shortly after the election, I mentioned a flub that Obama made and, before the election, I mentioned two that Biden made. I was actually castigated fo even mentioning them. Why ae gaffes by Sarah Palin still being chewed over? Is this a double standard because of her looks or her gender or her political affiliation, or for some other eason?

Okay, I did find some sources, but I'm not going to include the links because they were a commentator and a blog citing anon. sources who have an axe to grind. I would need something more diect and/or subjectivethan either if I were to accept what is being said. As I said, I can't believe she would be that ignorant.

I don't like Palin's ideology, and I don't think she was ready for the national stage, but I don't like the tone of these "anonymous" attacks.

I don't know what she could or could not name, but I do know that she is not alone. Many people, even those in office, don't know a lot of the facts. She is ambitious, but that is not necessarily a negative trait. In fact, it is often something we admire. What she is now is the scapegoat for the campaign.

The fault here lies with McCain. This woman was clearly not ready for the job, but he chose her anyway. IMHO, he chose her simply because she was inexperienced and not quite ready. With his personality type, anyone who could pose a significant challenge to him would be threatening. Unfortunately for him, Palin is not easily managed or controllable.

Palin was sold a bill of goods. I'm sure she was flattered, and told how wonderful she was. No one prepared her for the fishbowl she would encounter. Vanity drives many people to do things before they are prepared or qualified.

I don't think she is stupid. She is uninformed. The man who helped prepare her for the debates (whose name escapes me) said she was quick, sharp and had almost a photographic memory. I admire her tenacity.

I despise "anonymous" stories. How easy it is to say things when you don't have to stand behind them.

Naw, South Africa is only referred to as the nation. Nothing like talking about "south Florida." So, it's fairly obvious she didn't know there was a nation by that name.

I'll admit I don't know what nations are in NAFTA myself (although I think I could make a correct stab at it--based on the NA referring to North America). Not my area of expertise and I was off immersed in the Middle East when all of that was happening. I'm still a little mystified by what the issues are with that--and not particularly motivated to find out.

But then I'm not running for the vice presidency either.

I could walk a ways with you on this but not the "solely McCain's fault" part.

He could only offer. She's the one who accepted. And a governor gets no slack from me in overreaching on this. The "not ready" part (which she surely was aware of more than McCain could have been) aside, she had a messy "abuse of power" investigation at home and she had an unwed, pregnant daughter who obviously would be thrust into the national spotlight. Palin's overweening, self-centered ambition can't be "solely" blamed on McCain.

It's not easy for an adult - much less one who has chosen politics as a career - to be that uninformed, when there is so much easily available information. Failing to know the nations that are signatory to the North American Free Trade Agreement, and that Africa is not a country but a continent? How is that even possible? She doesn't live in a tent city, for chrissake. She has access to the same news sources and even popular entertainment as the rest of the planet.

To remain that ignorant, when in possession of so many information resources, requires either vast arrogance or a degree of stupidity. Throw in the fact that she has said dinosaurs and human beings existed at the same time - and that she participated in an anti-witchcraft blessing - and it's hard to rule out stupidity completely. If it's true that she's a "quick study," then her particular brand of stupidity isn't an inability to learn, but an unwillingness; an entrenched disinterest in truth.

For someone who wishes to hold ultimate power, willful ignorance is not only inexcusable, it's terribly dangerous. We've had proof of that for eight years.

This woman is George W. Bush with ovaries.

So you would have wanted Bob Woodward to have been forced to divulge who Deep Throat was? Or would you have rather he stood on his principles, kept silent and allowed Nixon to have stayed in office?

You are correct. I'm writing here, answering emails and dealing with 2 children. The "solely" part was a mistake. I have corrected it.

He does however bear a larger part of the responsibility. Are the posters here really telling me that at no time have they been offered a position that was clearly out of their league, and taken it, because someone with more experience told them they were ready? It happens all the time. I am not absolving her of responsibility, merely pointing out that vanity is a vice we all share, and the easiest one in which to catch someone.

I disagree with you. I think you would be surprised at the number of members of both houses who were uninformed when they took office. The fishbowl and whirlwind of the 60 days preceding the Presidential election is not the most conducive time to learn, either.

I do not agree with her theology, but I will defend her right to believe it. Equality for all, right?

How many of us could stand being thrust into that fishbowl and walk out unscathed? How many teachers have stood in front of a classroom and made an incorrect statement? I know I have, as has every teacher I have ever had. It does not mean we were stupid, it happens. If we expect our leaders to never make mistakes, we are setting them up for failure.

As I have said before, I do not like her theology or her ideology, but I abhore bashing someone about whom we have no personal knowledge. She was not properly vetted or prepared to enter the arena into which she was thrust.

So you would have wanted Bob Woodward to have been forced to divulge who Deep Throat was? Or would you have rather he stood on his principles, kept silent and allowed Nixon to have stayed in office?

Please.

I am not saying that the news organizations should out their sources. Neither am I saying that a someone with knowledge, such as Deep Throat, should keep his/her mouth shut. Those who risk life, health, and their jobs to reveal illegal activity are heroes.

These allegations and reports are a far cry from Watergate.

Making incendiary statements designed to malign someone's intelligence or character without proof or without stepping up to stand behind your statement is cowardice.

How many of us could stand being thrust into that fishbowl and walk out unscathed?

That's very true. But how many of us would believe we're qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States of America? That's the problem.

Personally, I find the story about Africa hard to swallow, although I think it's entirely plausible that she might have gotten to where she is today without knowing some basic facts about the world. (She didn't know, for example, who the Prime Minister of Canada was, something you'd think the governor of Alaska would most certainly know.)

But what this does show is that those of us who doubted McCain's sincerity concerning "Country First" were entirely justified. He definitely didn't pick the most qualified person for the job of VP, but picked the most politically expedient one, and picked her almost on a whim, with little examination or reflection for what her choice might mean for America's future and well-being.

What kind of president would he have made? You shudder to think.

As for having someone in the Whitehouse who believes that humans and dinosaurs existed at the same time, that's just too embarrassing to contemplate.

I'm afraid she's just one of those terribly dangerous people who's too dumb to know how dumb she is.

This is true. It's even true of the time they are in Congress, and quite reasonably so. No one can be an expert (and/or not have any information holes) all across the board. Senators and Reps specialize in a couple of areas and have staffs to zero in on positions elsewhere--and they pretty much take party lines or negotiated tit-for-tat positions outside of the focus interests of their constituencies and their own chosen specialities. Congress is a horse trading barn, and naturally so. It's not a Hollywood movie set.
