Scream it out! Roe v. Wade edition

You are wrong. At least referring towards Republicans. Understand, that as a Democrat when my Party does something I do not agree with, I withhold my vote. I make my voice heard. I work towards fixing the issues. Republicans...will always vote Republican...in spite of having a leader that attempted a coup. In spite of removing voting rights. In spite of destroying women's rights. In spite of kids being murdered in schools. They will keep supporting Fascist policies because THEY ARE FASCISTS TOO. See the difference now?
Don’t even know where to begin with that inane nonsense drivel, so I won’t. Really feel sorry for you, though.

I hope you bring that same kind of energy to the other side as well and advocate for our pov
I sincerely do. I’m more subtle about it because, truthfully, preaching the other side to a bunch of 50 year-old bible-thumpers requires more coaxing. But, I’ve had some version of this same discussion with a half dozen anti-abortionists. I had to prove myself much more to them in order to have a discussion than I’ve had to here.
I believe it is insanely disrespectful for a man to make this bolded statement to women. This topic is very easy for me to talk about. I don’t give a fuck if a man thinks it should be hard to talk about. It’s not. This is supposedly a nation of freedom including freedom of and from religion. We are expressing our anger here at the lack of this promised freedom to half of the population.
if this were that cut and dry amongst women, I might agree with you. But, there’s a large segment of adult females who disagree with you. And my speaking in generalities about how difficult this is for all to speak about is no less “insanely disrespectful” than your speaking in generalities about half the population.

Generalities are necessary. I’m trying to approach a topic that IS divisive, whether you choose to admit it or not, with a modicum of respect for both sides. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t marginalize my viewpoint as “insane.” I promise you, I approach this from a rational vantage point; I don’t believe my thought processes to be irrational.

Both the Organization of American Historians and the American Historical Association, the flagship organizations of professional historians in the U.S., along with eight other U.S. historical associations (so far), yesterday issued a joint statement expressing dismay that the six Supreme Court justices in the majority in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision that overturned Roe v. Wade ignored the actual history those organizations provided the court and instead “adopted a flawed interpretation of abortion criminalization that has been pressed by anti-abortion advocates for more than thirty years.” Although the decision mentioned “history” 67 times, they note, it ignored “the long legal tradition, extending from the common law to the mid-1800s (and far longer in some states, including Mississippi), of tolerating termination of pregnancy before occurrence of ‘quickening,’ the time when a woman first felt fetal movement.”

The statement focuses less on politics than on the perversion of history, noting that “[t]hese misrepresentations are now enshrined in a text that becomes authoritative for legal reference and citation in the future,” an undermining of the “imperative that historical evidence and argument be presented according to high standards of historical scholarship. The Court’s majority opinion…does not meet those standards.”

Women who disagree are very welcome to never have an abortion. Although, you may be shocked at the number of women who are extremely vocally outspoken against abortion but have had one. They don’t typically regret it, either; they just hope and pray no one ever finds out.

You’d appreciate if I not marginalize your viewpoint as insane? I’d appreciate it if you would stop lecturing in this thread. Men lecturing on this topic are among the worst type of men.

EU Parliament condemns US abortion ruling, seeks safeguards

The European Union's parliament on Thursday overwhelmingly condemned the end of constitutional protections for abortion in the United States and called for such safeguards to be enshrined in the EU's fundamental rights charter.

^^^ This is what convinced me that no matter my own feelings anything to do with a woman's free choice to end a pregnancy was none of my business. It is a conscious and willful act that she has made and opening my mouth to say anything was only going to create lasting harm to any perception of friendship or future abilities to communicate.

I've had neighbors and co-workers who've chosen to have abortions or agreed to allow their then minor daughters to do so. One of my sisters was prepared to have an abortion but decided against it. So, I really don't believe that any lack of thought goes into the choice in this matter.

I also believe that this thread is intended to allow vigorous expressions of anger and dismay that women here are experiencing.

I follow Heather Cox Richardson closely and she is a beacon of light for me 🚨

It's like they assume we don't already understand varied perspectives 🙄

..."Nice guys"...
I don't know how many times we need to say this is a venting/sharing space for people upset about the consequences near term and long term of this disastrous decision. I resent being lectured. It feels very paternalistic and I am being especially triggered by that these days.

I prefer motorboating.
so... you gonna set up a mobile abortion clinic on a motorboat? That could be a good approach.

Predictions of how deeply the already overwhelmed foster care system is going to be impacted by lack of abortion services are breathtaking.
And... the folks that have provided abortion care have also provided many other reproductive health services - contraceptives, STI testing, HIV care, gender affirming services, basic prevention care like pap smears... most of them will be forced to close between no longer having the one revenue generating service being legal, and anti abortion folks looking for ways to close them or prosecute them for various suspected infractions. I have no idea where these people are going to be able to go for services - this is a particularly big problem for people in states that did not expand healthcare eligibility under the ACA - as they will not qualify for subsidized care and also can't afford insurance. Great idea (read extreme sarcasm) --> make it that much harder for people to prevent pregnancies and then criminalize any attempts to get an abortion. The follow on consequences for delayed care and reduced access to basic healthcare are going to be significant.

🤬😡

Pro Lifer: Well the mother should just give the baby up for adoption if she doesn’t want the baby
Arina: So who will adopt the baby?
PL: I don’t know there’s lots of couples who want to adopt
Arina: Do you know any couple who is waiting to adopt?
PL: Um well not personally but like I know there’s lots of people waiting to adopt.
Arina: Do you know what a domestic adoption costs?
PL: I don’t know. $15,000 maybe?
Arina: The average cost of domestic adoption in the United States is $70,000 if you go through a private agency.
PL: Oh I didn’t realize it was that much
Arina: Yep it’s really expensive. It can be more if you want a newborn straight from the hospital. Up to $120,000.
PL: Well all life is precious.
Arina: it really is. I’ve adopted through foster care and am currently a licensed foster parent. Would you be interested in becoming a foster parent yourself?
PL: Oh no I couldn’t do it.
Arina: Why not?
PL: It would just be too much for me right now.
Arina: Why is that?
PL: It would be too hard to handle all the issues that came with it. I’ve heard horror stories.
Arina: Yep it can be extremely difficult. But what if I told you that you were required by law to become a foster parent?
PL: what?
Arina: what if you had to become a foster parent by law?
PL: they would never do that. That would never happen.
Arina: Well, if a woman is forced to bear a child she doesn’t want, and she goes ahead and has that child, someone has to care for the child either through adoption or foster care. You have to do one of those two things.
PL: But I don’t want any more kids.
Arina: So you don’t want someone forcing you to have a child in your home that you don’t want or aren’t able to care for?
PL: no, that’s not my job to raise someone else’s child.

There it is, folks. Have the baby, but we don’t want anything to do with it afterwards.
But, let’s ban abortion… 😡

^^^ I wanted to be a judge in a courtroom in one of the cases where someone was arguing to force birth. I would assign adoption to the person(s) making the objections. 'She doesn't want it. You want to force her. You have to cover all of her medical expenses and it's yours to raise.'.

OK Texas, which is it? You can't have it both ways.

Pregnant woman given HOV ticket argues fetus is passenger, post-Roe

Brandy Bottone was recently driving down Central Expressway in Dallas when she was stopped by a sheriff at an HOV checkpoint to see whether drivers had at least one passenger in their vehicles.

Note, stories with real links can be posted instead of giganto images that say nothing.
Fact checking in a shout out thread? Okay, whatever man. I at least read your article. Says pretty much what the giant thing says.

I believe in credible sources.

This thread is a shoutout. Get over it.

Edit: Why the fuck are you trolling this thread anyway? (Rhetorical question. Tbh, I don't wanna know.)
