So I Made This Really Good Hummus...

Hummus?
No, really.
Honestly.
What is it?

Sigh of relief. The nightmares begin to retreat.

Haha, funny. I'm not a vegetarian. I had a huge porterhouse steak for dinner last night. My mom is a vegetarian though... made us eat yogurt and sprouts and grape nuts and tofu bacon. Oddly, she hates hummus.

Canned chickpeas (garbanzo beans.)
olive oil
lemon juice
sesame seeds
garlic
salt, black pepper.
Whatever else you want (like my parsley/green onion/red pepper thing.)
Puree in food processor.

If you like raw garlic and lemon, it's really good.

No thanks on the yogurt, no thanks on the tofu bacon. Sprouts are okay. Grape nuts would have been okay except I've been learning about these guys who invented the graham cracker and kellogs cereals (okay, maybe you don't INVENT these things) and I may have to give up any and all Kellog's products just out of principle. Hummus as appetizer to a porterhouse steak may work. You're helping on the road to hummus recovery.

Don't forget the tahini....

So, basically, tasty muck.

I can live with that.

I personally don't like tahini, so I cheat by pureeing toasted sesame seeds with olive oil into a paste, then incorporating the rest of the ingredients into my muck. Liar, it's an old Middle Eastern recipe. First had it at a Lebanese restaurant.

Funny story about that: my boyfriend was facing the window and he kept seeing a reflection of the kithcen in the window... he kept seeing a dog walking back and forth in the reflection! He becmae increasingly uneasy until it suddenly dawned on him: the dog was outside. The relfection was only superimposed on the dog.

It's bean dip you eat with pita bread. Or pita chips if you can find 'em.

I found some tortilla chips. I like that when pita is unavailable - I made that up but it's pretty good...
