God I hope FIFA throws the book at Suarez. Talented player but is he ever a hate-able, disgusting POS. Biting someone is such a vile thing to do, and he's done it three times already in his career! Pathetic. Whatever the maximum suspension he could possibly get is, it's not long enough!

Hmm, I read the opinion of a psychologist on that, and it may not be as clear cut as we think. Her argument is that it is a primal instinct. A bit like dogs biting each other. Her theory is that in a state of hyper excitement the primal behaviour comes to the fore. Suarez was apparently wearing a leather bracelet in some matches and was seen to bite it. She thought that indicated that he was having some form of treatment for his problem. The collapsing on the floor holding his teeth was, according to her typical. He wasn't pretending to be injured, but collapsed because of what he had done. the holding of his mouth was a sort of prevention/blame thing. he covers his mouth so he can't bite at anyone and has a desire to pull his own teeth out.

Of course FIFA has to do something even if it is a psychological condition. If they don't you get others copying the behaviour and saying, "talk to my shrink"

Never knew football could be so deep.

I'm constantly amazed at how much bad human behaviour psychologists manage to excuse or explain away.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the seriousness of mental illness and would never want to downplay it where it exists. But this doesn't feel like one of those cases to me.

I'd like to think people have evolved to where, even in the heat of athletic competition at the highest level, they know that biting an opponent is just simply not done.

When it was 1-1 in the Ghana Portugal game and Ghana was pressing to score it was beyond tense and stressful!!! Thanks to Christiano for that kind of crap goal to get it off high center and make things much easier to watch down the stretch!;)

The Dutch are a hell of a team this year. I'm not shocked. Quality finishing and attacking football.

Now, personally, I am a long-standing Argentina fan. We have home continent advantage. I like our odds.

Ar-hen-tina! Ar-hen-tina!

I've got to admit they take the diving prize every time. Never seen another team with So many players that can be floored by a hard stare.

And the knockout stage gets off to Brazil scraping past Chile 3-2 on penalties.

Some pretty awful penalties there.

Brazil and Columbia through to the round of eight, although it looked like it might be Chile instead.

Brazil 1(3)
Chile 1(2)

Colombia 2
Uruguay 0 (Suarez was banned, so no biting.)

The first goal that kid from Colombia scored was a thing of beauty.

Phew! For a while it looked like the Dutch were going out.

Mexico 1 - 2 Netherlands

A definite statement for gender equality. I understand that the Dutch have a lot of dykes.

:D I didn't expect that from you!

'Kay I am going to post here about Gareth Bale, mainly for people who might like to write a story with a multimillion pound sports star as a character.

I don't think I have ever been that close to a top flight sports star. To start with, he was extremely physically fit. He was so clearly in the peak of condition that there was a sort of sparkle to him, a really attractive air of being at ease in his own body. He was much slimmer than I thought he would be, I thought he would be more muscular. He had slim hips and very broad shoulders.

I thought he would be surrounded by minders and managers and flunkeys. In fact he turned up just with his mum, dad and I think a brother. He seemed rather shy! It was extremely kind of him to agree to come along, cuz I am talking about a small local do, not some star-studded media circus event here. We gave him lots of stuff, including a bunch of flowers which he indicated should be given to his mum. We women were already thinking that many millions of pounds was not that much to pay for a body like his, and we were of course all totally melted by this, although probably he just didn't want to go around with a great big bunch of flowers!

He willingly signed lots of footballs, shirts and pictures, revealed a plaque and cut a cake. He went round the whole venue meeting and greeting. It's a bit unfortunate that we have selected the same colours as Barcelona for our football shirts :D but I'm sure he understood.

Instead of a signed pic of Gareth Bale, I've brought along some of the strawberries, homemade scones and cream from the function to sustain you in your 'soccer' watching.

The Netherlands and Costa Rica are through to the round of eight. A share of the blame for the Greek defeat must come from their exclusionary policy. As is well known, "The Greeks don't want no freaks."

Netherlands 2
Mexico 1

Costa Rica 1(5)
Greece 1(3)

Ticos!!!!!

Yes, until the ref decided who would win...the foul looked like it could go either way.

That call was WEAK! Even the dutch after said they were surprised by that call but said that the one in the first half should have been so it was a payback. Whatever. I was pulling for Dutch but not like that BS.

France and Germany into the round of eight.

France 2
Nigeria 0

Germany 2

Go to it USA wish our team had shown even half that much effort and dedication.

God that was painful. Tim Howard carried that game, but he couldn't do it all himself.
