Sports Cars

I certainly don't think a car is just for transportation. Nor am I trying to impress anyone with it. I could care less. I just LOVE to drive...therefore a van or a truck has no appeal to me. I need a car that is pure joy to drive. Corners like on rails, accelerates like a bullet and stops on a dime. SPORTS CAR! Light, high revving, and nimble. I feel sorry for the people who don't derive pleasure from driving. I could never think of a car as just a point to point appliance. Carving corners on a twisty back road gives me the same pleasure as a good round of golf or almost as much as a good blowjob... as strange as that may sound. It is supposed to be fun to drive...at least that's what I always thought.

Farfegnugen! (I believe that is the word they use in German to describe the joy one has from driving)

Yeah, that's close. I think the German word for Joy is Freude. Which may explain why I almost get aroused driving fast.

So would that make the word for "Joy from Driving" "Dreivenfreude"?

What? :D

I have to agree with Felix on this one. No matter what you do to it a pick up is still just a truck. It has no business in a thread about sports cars. Also, who cares how fast a car goes in a straight line. Maybe that's why F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports and drag racing is just a national championship. Much harder to design a car that is quick in the corners and fast on the straights than just a straight line burner. F1 and sports car racing draws audiences from around the world. I don't know anyone who watches drag racing.

I live in the city, I say who cares how fast you can go around a sweeping turn. I can't do that around here. I can drag race though. Now while I can't go flying around turns, I can do something that would make most "super/hypercar" owners mess their pantaloons. While they get all goo goo eyed over numbers like low 4's, or maybe mid 3 second 0-60 times (in exotics such as the Enzo), I'm doing it in 1.4 seconds and still able to drive it on the street. I can run darn close to that 0-60 on the street with a burnout and a lil lane prep even. lol I have been in friends cars that screwed around with building cars that can turn, and it was kinda fun for a bit I will admit. Just not as much fun to me as sitting in a missile giving you G forces way beyond anything any super/hypercar could ever hope to even dream of.

F1 cars are overgrown go karts, a top fuel dragster does 0-324 mph in 3.77 seconds. I'd take the dragster in a heartbeat.

Different strokes for different folks though. I can appreciate the lower powered cars that rely on cornering ability. It's just useless where I live though really, and just doesn't give me the G-forces I like in a performance vehicle.

I'll also note I have looked at BMW M cars, Benz's AMG's, Vettes, even looked at Porsches at one time and do think today's manufacturers put out some nice vehicles, but the price tag is just not reasonable for what you get in my opinion. So I have chosen to buy multiple other vehicles each of which serves its purpose best. Spent the same money, have more toys, and each does what it does better than what any single car at any price would. Oh, and I get to make jokes about my fleet of cars to boot!

As they say, it takes all sorts.

Give me a man who looks like a Johnny Depp, smells like heaven, has the sexual charisma of a George Clooney, has the sense of humour of a Stephen Fry and the wealth of a Steve Jobs and the intelligence of a Stephen Hawking........ I'm all set for a night of passion with him..... and he starts talking along the lines of the post I've quoted...... suddenly I would rather share my bed with some bed lice and a hot water bottle than with him.

Many women would not share this view :D

Haha I love your honesty. I'm just glad there's millions of women out there interested in all different things. Heck, I even know a few that will give me a run for my money when it comes to knowledge of cars!

I say to be a real car guy you have to have gotten your hands dirty and swapped motors, changed cars over from automatics to manuals or the other way around, swapped axles, install and degree a cam, know how to setup a ring and pinion gear etc etc and come out of the shower with some dirt on ya still at the end of the day cause some of that dirt n grease just stays with ya for a couple days if your really getting crazy.

We all have our passions, whatever they may be.

What do you have that is streetable and does 0-60 in 1.4 seconds?

Hey RandomAssGuy....I live in the city too. My car can make it out of the city to find the nice twistys. Can't yours? I forgot...drag cars can't turn. The problem with drag racing cars is that they are totally one dimensional. An F1 car would still be damn fast in a quarter mile drag race, but I would love to see a top fueler navigate the turns in Monaco. I like G-forces too....I'll take mine lateral.

In case anyone doesn't know what type of car I'm talking about here is a similar car for comparison. Sorry but I won't be posting my own car on here as I'd like to stay somewhat anonymous due to the nature of this board.

Again this is NOT MY CAR, THIS IS T|CK PERFORMNCE'S CAR, but this is a good representation of a car built like mine.

Wooo Pontiac Firebird! Is it a Trans Am? I can't see the screaming chicken on the hood to tell.

My car I've had since I was 16. Not the new version, which is good because I hate the new celicas. No 0-60 in 2 seconds, but it definitely works for me and got me started on my love for sports cars. :D

I'm with ayrton; I just loves sports cars and I love to drive, with the occasional race. I blame it on my dad, if you were raised in his house you were going to learn to love sports cars, particularly corvettes, that's his dream car and he praises them every chance he gets.

When I see a dude with a nice ass car yeah I stare, but 90% of the time it's not really the guy I'm thinking about. He can be hot as fuck but all I'm thinking is "Damn I want that car!" I don't think I'm shallow because I want his car, I don't want his money or his car, it's just me expressing my appreciation for the car that I would love to have someday. Anything with a nice roar, sleek look, and can drive like a bat out of hell, is good for me

So for a 1.4 second 0-60 I am guessing you are pushing 1000 hp, run slicks, and have a curb weight around 2100 lbs?

You really don't need more than about ~550 RWHP to be able to do it on a track with slicks, good suspension, proper gearing, big torque converter, and a lil weight reduction. I can't think of any f-Body that's not a tube chassis weighing anything near 2100 lbs. lol

I'm somewhere under 3000 lbs, well well under 1,000 hp, and yes its on a 28 10.5 slick.

Do you have any experience with drag racing?

Just played around on a calculator and the car you just theorized would be capable of 0-60 times under 1 second assuming it could put that power down! There's a few calculators online you can play with and get a realistic number.

Maybe play with this one.

Here's an accepted chart converting 60 foot time to a mph. You'll have to do a lil math on your own to convert things and see where you'd end up at 60 mph at, but you'll be in the ball park if you look at this and do a lil math.

2.0 60 ft - end velocity is 40.9 MPH
1.8 60 ft - end velocity is 45.5 MPH
1.6 60 ft - end velocity is 51.1 MPH
1.5 60 ft - end velocity is 54.5 MPH
1.4 60 ft - end velocity is 58.4 MPH
1.3 60 ft - end velocity is 62.9 MPH
1.2 60 ft - end velocity is 68.2 MPH

There's nothing wrong with a sexy F-body! My favorite car was a 1996 Trans Am and it probably will always be like that. Before that I was in high school and I had a 1989 Toyota Supra which was pretty fucking fast but the Trans Am just had far too much swagger to be ignored.

Yes I have played around with cars quite a bit. Most of my experience is more in the road course arena but the sheer rush of acceleration is always amazing to me, and I get into all types of cars.
