Stranger Danger!! (actually Catfishing 🙄)

I've recently had two accounts reach out to me and within the first two or three messages let me know how financially secure they are, followed by what do you do for a living. I give a vague answer then they ask about my job duties. I hope other people who are new and legitimate to the site pay attention to this thread and are careful.

Queen5698 asked me to go to Telegram or WhatsApp. When I said I didn’t have those apps she/he stopped communicating. They admitted traveling to Russia so I believe it was a Russian troll.

In the era of AI, just giving people a little data can be dangerous and may give them a way into any other social media you have. Going to other sites exposes your email or phone number. Don’t share pictures or open attachments.

Well, it's not unheard of, discerning women sending a PM 'out of the blue' (typically, after haveing come across forum postings that sparked their interest), it's what some Litsters m or f tend to do, not always unsuccessfully I have to say.

Also, nothing as such speaks against convo elsewhere, once one knows one anothers, again it's what we've been doing all along and I tend to go for end2end encrypted comms whenever I can.

The 'health warning' as such always applies and reminders always useful, it's so easy to drop one's due diligence and defences when coming up against a skillful 'social engineer'.

Yup

What’s App and Telegram are the main go to’s

Nope!

Also?? How many legit Lit women are DMing guys out of the blue? That never happens to me even when I ask for questions
, once

Vigilance is always best when conversing with someone who is new to the platform. With the advent of LLM AI, social engineering is only going to get more sophisticated and difficult to detect. Tenure on the platform is still the best measure of sincerity.

Here's the latest is these phishing scams: I received from Literotica Feedback a message that this person was following me and wanted to connect. No other info. I was skeptical but decided to see what was what. I e-mailed "her," received a reply asking where I lived, how my health is, and please send photos. Ha! SO I blocked her. If anyone here gets anything from sophiegibson365 please just block it.

Looks like that user has already disappeared!

Good to see this discussed & members warning about their "fishing" DMs - it makes for a more relaxed online experience if more people report these types of fakes. Personally, I dislike being suspicious and have upset a genuine member because her lifestyle & circumstances smacked so much of a catfishing profile that I asked her directly - which of course, upset her. But in my defence I told her to check with her online freinds who had been catfished if her personal circumstances weren't red flags

And as a side note, I have been catfished before on another forum so I know the lengths that some go to create a false ID and the energy they put into maintaining a fake persona over many months. No damage was done to me as I don't give out any info that can be traced to my real life unless i'm very sure of the person. But it was a learning experience & study into catfishing itself
