Support the AH Halloween Contestants Thread

Qualifying?

Has anyone qualified yet (received the minimum 25 votes)? I seemed to have stalled at 18. :(

Votes~

Voting does seem to be down a bit from the norm
but two have claimed over 50 votes
thats needed for the monthly contest,
I'm hung in the low 20's

now if I was hung with 20 inches
I'd either be popular or very lonely

I just read Rumple Foreskin and Cloudy's stories. Wow!! Very well written and a model for others. The characters were so vivid, I was just blown away! My own Halloween Entry, The Mask, has a respectable 54 votes. Unfortunately the rating is a lukewarm 4.20!! Sack

I didn't have to go far for the first one...
it was on page 4 in this thread...

Got it. Thanks. I was thinking that Lit had some sort of tally page going somewhere. LOL

Impressive,

You can get the average score of many stories by going to the TOP list. If the story is among the better ones in its category it'll be listed.

There may be a way to get total number of votes, but that info is missing from my aging data base.

Whatever your numbers, keep your towel handy and don't panic. Voting will last well beyond the deadline for submissions. Someone usually starts a "begging" thread near the end of the contest for folks who need a few more votes to qualify.

Ah, thanks. I should've thought of that.

I just went to the top list for Erotic Horror, and I suppose the others will be the same. It gives the rank, total votes and average vote. It doesn't say whether or not the story is entered in the contest but you can look at the posting date and get a good idea. Doc M was the highest in that category with 36 votes and a 4.78 average. I know not all stores are in E/H but you can do the same in other categories.

I just checked mine -- and it shows over 25 votes! Oddly, the score & votes do not "match" what is shown on my member submissions page. Is there a lag somewhere? (Silly question -- obviously there IS.)

Well, that cheered me considerably. Thanks!

Doc's story will be, should be, hard to beat. But there seems to be a pattern that later entries tend to finish higher than early ones. But there are so many variables, I could be totally off base about that supposed tendency.

IMHO, it'd be a "fairer' contest if everyone had to enter in the same category or had a limited choice of categories. Of course, my story is in Interracial, and the contest has no entry fee and winners get a cash prize, so you won't hear me complain.

What's surprised me is the large number of Erotic Horror entires. That's a fairly exclusive category that doesn't appeal to everybody. Meanwhile, I haven't noticed a single contest entry in Sci Fi/Fantasy, which is a much more active category.

I hear you. Putting a story in this contest against Doc's entry is like driving up to the local hang-out in your new Mustang, only to have some guy in a Ferrari Testarossa park next to you.

Doc's story

I have to disagree with the masses here...I don't think Doc's story was particularly exceptional....too bizarre, with a lot of unanswered questions, such as why the heroine put up with the moth's treatment for so long, why was her husband evil, why wasn't their sex life fulfilling for him, etc. Now Colleen's two stories, on the other hand, were true masterpieces...full of emotion, extraordinary description, marvelous twists and turns, etc. I also loved Ghost In The Machine. Next to it, Doc's story looks like chicken feed. Autumn In New York should win, but probably won't. Do you still love me? was unbearingly poignant, again light years ahead of the dumb moths. Hell, I even liked my own two entries, my best Literotica writing to date despite the plethora of one bombs. And let us not forget the marvelously understated Ogg....his stories deserve much higher ratings! I think Doc needs to set the bar higher...how about a Gay Male story....now THAT would be a real challenge!!

To answer your questions, sack:
such as why the heroine put up with the moth's treatment for so long,

Because the husband was slipping her roofies.

why was her husband evil,

he was a mad scientist. Duuuuh!

why wasn't their sex life fulfilling for him, etc.

same reason as above?

I thought the Moth's Song was fan-fucking-tastic. Stephen King is out. Doc is in.

Why shouldn't there be a lot of E/H stories? After all, this is Halloween. My story, listed as E/H although it could have been posted in several other categories, has 67 votes in three days. This is after having had some swept out by Laurel. I know there is at least one other one-bomb to be elminated.

Possibly I should have listed it as T/M.

I've qualified (at least until Laurel sweeps again), but I'll happily trade reads with you. :D

And a comment on Doc's story -- it truly IS exceptional. Well researched, exquisitely well written, and entertaining to boot.

All Hallow's Eve needs a single vote, but since it has zero chance of victory, it doesn't really matter if it gets it.

Has anyone else noticed in E/H how we keep getting hit with sweep 1 bombs? Sadly, they got one of my stories right after sweep cleanup. Bastardos.

All I noticed was the little impact some votes had, the ones that should go with a positive comment. LOL
Probably because there are some "not so nice ones" in there as well.

So what? It's not as if I could have won.
That would piss me off, as it did some time earlier.
I did have a fair chance then for story of the month or thereabouts.

I have enough votes to qualify for the contest, not enough for story of the month, but then I hardly ever have that right away.

:D

I am happy enough with a H.

Until my last two submissions, my stories would typically get 10-15 votes during their first week. So, I'm happy to get enough votes to qualify for the Halloween contest -- even if the competition is too damned ... um, stiff. But what really blows me away is to have a story with nearly enough votes for the monthly contest. That's a first for me.

Not anymore :)

Immortal Ecstasy has dropped from 4.8 to 4.25 over five votes, still under qualification level on 24 votes. Not that it matters, I don't mind stories being voted down on merit or taste, I am irritated if it's being voted down because it is in the Halloween competition.

Still, it received this public comment so I am not complaining.

"bizarre, but.....
Once certainly can't accuse you of copying, Neon, there is NOTHING like this in the entire Literotica literature. Your buildup in the first few paragraphs was excellent, the very end was a bit dry..."
