Syria Is Falling, Assad May Be Finished

Howd that work out?
Well enough while he ruled. If you kept your mouth shut about politics -- and, if a woman, escaped the notice of Hussein's sons -- you could have a decent life. Which became a lot more difficult after Hussein's fall. It was like Yugoslavia after Tito.

I was talking about for Saddam, dipshit.

You asked how it worked out in Iraq. You just dont like the Truth.

Meanwhile in Syria today…

“The US launched 'dozens of precision airstrikes' in Syria on Sunday after rebels ousted longtime despotic leader Bashar al-Assad.

The strikes were carried out against known ISIScamps and operatives based in Central Syria, according to US Central Command.

This ongoing operation's objective was to prevent ISIS from taking advantage of the chaos and reorganizing after their attempt at a state collapsed in 2019, according to the Pentagon.”

I didn't actually

Assad gassed his own people. Fuck him. We should've done the same decades ago

Well? Is there any reason they should not have?

US caught by surprise as Syria overthrows al-Assad: Analysis

President Biden praises overthrow but warns of uncertainty, as analysts question his administration’s years-long deprioritisation of Syria.

The statement announcing Assad's arrival in Moscow also mentioned that Russian officials were in contact with representatives of "the Syrian armed opposition".

The state TV anchor said opposition leaders had guaranteed the security of Russian military bases and diplomatic missions on the territory of Syria.

Russia's foreign ministry says the bases in Syria have been put "on a state of high alert", but claims there is "no serious threat to them at the current time."

UN resolutions are worth less than seagull shit. We shouldn't even be in the UN. And the UN shouldn't be in the US. Evict them and let them pay for themselves. The UN has long outlived its purpose and usefulness.
The UN should be a world government. It won't be in our lifetime. But there is no downside to its existence as a permanent standing global diplomatic forum.

Ferrari F50 among dozens of cars seen in videos that appear to show Assad's collection

From CNN’s Avery Schmitz, Yong Xiong and Ruba Alhenawi
Video footage appears to show deposed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s car collection, housed in a garage near his main palace in Damascus.
One video, filmed by an individual driving among the collection and verified by CNN, shows more than 40 luxury vehicles in a large warehouse in western Damascus, north of the Al-Mazzeh neighborhood.

I do not think it does that, but it has demonstrated the real, actual limits of his power short of threat nuke.

The great unknown at the moment is the stance of the Sunni rebel leadership going forward. The former association with Al Qaeda is a major negative but I cannot imagine that this rebellion went forward without US foreknowledge and with Israel and Turkey kept fully informed. Chloe will not agree, but accidental or on purpose, the arguably weak support for the Ukraine has proved sufficient for a win for the USA because it is now clear that being unable to secure the port of Sevastopol Putin had no chance of projecting his power into the Middle East. Russia is the major strategic loser.

Hopefully, Israel will secure her border but not overplay her hand with too long or obtrusive a stay. I wouldn't trust Netanyahu an inch, but expect that he will have sufficient sense not to push too far and get the Turks off side.

As usual the Kurds will get nothing. A lot of Syrian refugees now in Turkey, Armenia, Jordan etc will want to go home. That will be costly - for whom?

Iran is fairly quiet but they never had the logistics to support a permanent military presence. A rump Hezbollah may seek to undermine/attack the new Sunni regime but that would be normal anyway.

The situation will remain pretty much what it has been for the past 5,000 years, chaotic with occasional calm periods

Israel isn't going to do anything beyond securing the border. They'll be concentrating on finishing off Hezbollah with the help of the Lebanese Army being encouraged by our incoming president.

Russia and Iran are the big losers here.

I fully expect Russia to sign on to a cease fire agreement with Ukraine VERY soon loosely based on the framework Gen. Kellogg published a little over a year ago.

Trump is going to be relentless when it come to Iran.

Thanks to Israel that Assad is gone. It couldn't have happened without the detailed destruction of Hezbollah. Iran is retreating as well. The rebel leader who just took over is a terrorist himself.
