According to the list, this was the lowest rated story.
It's called "The Lottery".
It is also called "When the Clock Strikes Twelve" because I made the rookie mistake of putting the wrong category on it at first.
Because I put it as Erotic Horror and it has no horror to it, I can see why it has a low rating.
The 2nd iteration did slightly better.
Because of the time period (6/7/2007) I don't think I would change the story at all.
I was still learning what to do, so it's a step in my development.

My lowest-rated story is also my most-viewed story: The Upside. It's NC/R involving a drunk person mistaking someone's identity in the dark, and while it's not exactly realistic it's closer than many of my stories. The ending is kinda bittersweet, too.

I think it's decently written, but I accept that people might have different ideas about that. I won't complain about the rating, and I don't think I'd change anything about it. I certainly didn't predict that it'd be my lowest, but that's mostly because I stopped trying to predict ratings a while ago.

I think one of the lessons of this thread is that some voters will tell you whether they liked a story in a particular category, and other voters downvote because they object to the very idea of certain types of stories. LW gets a lot of that second sort, but I think NC/R gets a little bit too.

My lowest rating is 3.77, for Love at First Sight. It's a voyeur's love letter to the woman he/she is obsessed with.

The issue is that it's a bit of a negative take on voyeurism, so people who read it thinking it would match their kink were probably offended. The first handful of votes were quite low: 2s and 3s, then some kind people read it for what it was and the rating went up.

No regrets, I wrote the story I wanted to tell. Perhaps I should have opened with a note to avoid disappointment among the readers, though. Still, I see the ratings and the comments ("disturbing as fuck" is the consensus) as a badge of honour.

All my stories here are low on votes, partly because of their limited visibility in the Fanfic section and partly because I turned off voting for years because I was worried about uno-bombers. Then I came to my senses and decided they didn’t matter. My current lowest rated stories are: “Loose Ends”, which sets my favorite actress from the “Passion” series up with an average Hollywood Joe original character to close out her arc after I decided to put myself into retirement back in 2010- I’m honestly not into real person fanfics as much these days, so I may or may not pick it up again-; and “On Writing Celebrity Fantasies”, which is a “How To” giving my advice to authors who would write in that genre. Both are unrated and I would like that changed but I also don’t see it happening soon. Other stories of mine are deserving of their ratings and I hope they retain them. Or get higher ones. Readers can decide.

Candy’s Dandy is my worst-rated story at any site ever. It's in Loving Wives and comes in at 2.62. Only 77 votes and 11 comments (that I didn't delete because of personal attacks on me). Like all my cuckold stories, it was requested and outlined by a fan.

I thought that I'd previously responded to this thread, but evidently not. Just read through a bunch of comments and seeing several of my fellow writers posting 4.19, 4.38, 4.43, and even a 4.50 as their low scores. Are you kidding me? (rhetorical).

My lowest score was my first story on LitE: https://literotica.com/s/a-birthday-surprise-10
rated at 3.82 and has 242.9K views. This one is a month shy of being published 19 years ago. I've written a few others previously but never posted them on this site. I have no complaints about that score, and have three others that sit just below 4.00.

I think some of the ratings are from the content, being in the NC/R category. And it also depicts two small town policemen taking advantage of three inebriated women teachers. That drew some criticism from spouses of police, and I anticipated that. Two of my lowest scores, this one and another at 4.07 were written as favors for two friends, both teachers. These two also have my #3 and #1 number of views, plus a high number of favorites and comments.

As of right now my scores range from a high of 4.22 to a low of 2.97. All are cuckolding stories with exception of a NC/R story. All are interracial at least these are true until my vampire story is back up.

A Game of Forfeits - Loving Wives - Literotica.com

1. What score did it get? Do you think that score is justified?’

2.6. I don’t care.

2. ‘Did you know/suspect that this story was going to score so low?’

It was a. a 750-word story, and, b. posted in Loving Wives.

3. ‘What is it about the story that resulted in this score?’

Long, low-frequency words, short non-tropic stories and forced emasculation

are not valued in the Loving Wives category.

4. Would you still write/post this story? Would you change anything about it?

With a fresh read, I’ve noticed one punctuation and one punctuation/capitalisation error. Otherwise, no.

I love the challenge of telling a story, as opposed to an anecdote, in 750 words. Mine includes sufficient narration to give the story complexity and extension in time and place, and sufficient dialogue to say something about the characters. I like the dramatic opening, which foreshadows the story. I also like the twist at the end, which casts previous mini-scenes and the motives of the characters in a different light. It has a high lexical density score in ‘a story writ small’.

'The brave can include a link to the story and ask for feedback (and maybe a couple of consolation upvotes.)'

See Supra. Bear in mind that if you’re tempted to vote – I don’t care – I’m the only person who gets a vote, and I give it 5. It’s achieved everything I intended to achieve.

2023 has been a bumpy year, featuring the debut of my two "worst" stories.

The all-around low scorer is Without a Net, which was my only foray thus far into Loving Wives, and currently sits at 3.52.

It had an unusual path to publication. I was sitting on it 80% done for nearly two years before I was finally in the right frame of mind to write the final sex scene.

I guess I had aspired to something like a 4.0, but one never knows what will happen when you hit publish. I was skittish about LW, and not wrong to be so. In retrospect it was definitely the sort of stuff to infuriate certain groups of readers, without exactly being targeted to recruit countervailing groups to its defense. Anyway, the haters were diligent in bombing it early and often, as they tend to be.

I pretty much calibrate my stories to my tastes, rather than the broader readership, and it certainly showed in this case. I like the story quite a bit, and I wouldn't change much. The negative comments in this case did not end up providing me with much constructive food for thought.

But why take it from me when you could ask the readers?
  • "Ridiculous story, not a redeeming thing about it. One star because abstaining does nothing to the average."

  • "Awesome and very enjoyable. Very talented author!"

  • "While the relationships described and the activities not something I'd like to be a part of or a party to, I must admit that this story was very well-written and gave it a 5 for that reason"

  • "So many, not bad, but truly terrible decisions were made by the characters in this story."

  • "An excellent story and very well written! Clearly, a very gifted author. The sex scenes are great which I enjoyed a lot."

  • "I'd rather have my toenails ripped out one at a time with duck-billed pliers, than ready anything posted by this so-called author ever again."

I have two, a 4.29 and a 4.34. They have one thing in common; they are my only short stories. Conclusion - I suck at short stories. To be honest, I didn't particularly enjoy writing either of them. I may even delete them one day. I like to develop my characters, to set a scene, and you can't do that in just one page.

I wouldn't go so far at to say you 'suck' at short stories; many would still aspire to scoring as high as 4.29 and 4.34.

I agree on the sentiments about character development though. I have found thus far in my short Lit career, such as it is, that longer stories are sold to a proportionately smaller audience. That said, the feedback received from them is the most rewarding.

Poe crafted stories in a very amount of space and time. A Tell-Tale Heart was only 2093 brilliant words, and the Mask of the Red Death comes in under 2400 words. I can't believe how alive his stories feel despite the lack of words to pad them into a longer read.

Sister, you Edgar Allan Poe you ain't.

Out of my 29 published stories so far, my lowest is rated 4.31 with 13 votes but no written feedback. Honestly, I can see why it's my lowest rated, as it's short and doesn't have any PIV sex. Hopefully the next chapter gets rated higher.

4.31 is not a low score.

In my opinion, low ratings only matter if you are writing for the reader and not yourself. If you wrote your story, your way, and they don't like it, who cares? If you wrote for the reader, then yeah, low is a fail.
No, but it is my lowest rated story and that's what the post asked for.

I have a story that's supposed to be published in Loving Wives next week. I'm very curious about how it's going to get rated.

I agree! All of my stories I write for myself. Actually had no idea what my lowest was until now. I hope people enjoy them and if they don't, there's 1000s of other stories here for them.

There's not much to tell. I've two stories at 4.45 which isn't low. One is 750 words and the other is a 4500 word transcript of an interview with a vintage porn star who pulled a Bettie Page disappearing act . By their nature, they are hard to get high marks with but I'm very happy with both.

My stories are all above 4.5 except for three of them:

The hucow story at 4.3 which I get because it’s a weird kink.

The story about the girl cheating on her fiancé, which is also a 4.3

My one Loving Wives story at 3.6.

Dudes really hate stories about cheating.

Oh well.
