Tell us about your lowest rated story

My lowest rated story is ‘Jen goes to the beach pt 01’. It’s in I/T M/s. It’s the first of a three parter and it got a low score because I didn’t conclude it with actual sex. (That came later). I guess it’s taboo to not have an adequate finish, or that’s what the comments told me.

My lowest rated story, I guess, deserved it. It's not one of my own favorites.

But my second-lowest-rated story was, IMO, brilliant. I did it it non-rhyming verse, but not in the poetry category because of subject-matter, etc. I it is the one I had the most fun writing, and was/am most proud of.

But, when I sent my baby off into the world, virtually every reader apparently disliked it

This is the comment that I feel probably sums up the general response:
"This belongs in the poetry category. Couldn't even get myself to read it with this formatting. It doesn't even rhyme."

However, there were at least three people out there that liked it. This comment alone made it all worth it:
"This... is fucking brilliant. And while it most definitely is for a niche audience, I am more than happy to identify as a member of that niche, for stories as fantastically written as this. Honestly this is the best noncon original story I've ever read. This is also the first time I've ever gone out of my way to leave a comment on a story here. This was just too good not to communicate my appreciation. You have somehow turned shameless porn into art (as highly unpalatable as the subject matter would be were it not fiction or not amply tagged and warned for), and I salute you, for I can say with absolute certainty that I have never seen this done before and it was a highly unique experience I will likely come back to appreciate repeatedly."

Thank you anonymous commenter!

Fuck Talk - written in collaboration with my friend Violet_Vixen.

However, the great Jaymal says of it:
"Jeez. I feel rendered wordless by how much clever fucking fun this is. You're lucky I managed these few sentences. Bravo indeed."
... so it can't be that bad. Give it a try!

My worse rated.
I think if you read it, you will figure out which demographic I alienated.

Not my lowest rated, but watching the ratings bounce around it was clearly 5 stars or 1 star.
I sort of expected it, as it is a not subtle critique of a cultural sub-group attached to behaviors I find repulsive, but it ended up with a better average than I expected.

My lowest ranking story was great. It was at 1.92 for a long time until the sweep that removed about half the votes. Now it is way up in the upper 2 star range.

It was an April fools story I posted about mother son incest. The mother sucks the son's dick, only it is not the mother... it is a creepy old guy. People get about half way into the story before they find out who is really performing the oral.

I laughed so hard after submitting it I nearly wet myself. It was the lowest rated story I have seen in Lit in a long time.

Just up on Lit is its not-quite-sequel Fuck Talk Too - a gender-bending futa-fucking fanfic, of which a moderator in Another Place commented:

"Grusha, only you could successfully combine gender-swapping sex, futanari fantasies and epic Brechtian conceits with such success! This was barking mad, hilariously funny, utterly filthy and a terrifically entertaining read. I think Bertolt would agree."

Give it a go?

Fucking Machine. 183K reads, 348 votes, a 3.97 rating. 1,300 words. It's in non-human and a couple of people indicated they thought it should be in humor. I probably would have gotten slightly better numbers if I'd posted it there. I've got secondary humor in almost all my stories and didn't really realize how forward the humor had moved in this. So I can't disagree with those commenters. The amount of actual sex/smut is pretty low and since everyone's pretty happy with the sex that occurs it's not really going to excite a lot of the readers. The whole story is really low-key. And it suffers from formatting issues.

I would tighten up the writing, probably kick up the sex a notch, and fix the formatting issues, but I'd think it's a decent short story and I'd post it again.

It also subverted the genre somewhat by making the sub a police officer compelled to cuff her Dom during an arrest. I thought that would add interesting tension, but apparently not? The lack of success of that story surprises me, but I blame myself for inadequately immersing myself in that community.
Love that! I can see why a majority of the BDSM community would hate that but since I've used that exact dynamic here I think it's fantastic. I'm going to go give your story a 5 just for having the balls to include that element in it.

I only have two submissions on the site.

The latest seems to be the most polarizing, with a score of 3.67 of only three votes. I think one of the fives might be a sympathy vote from a kind soul to offset the one.

The piece was experimental, and took some creative risks. Whether the score is fair, or not, I have no opinion. It wasn't aiming at a contest, so the score doesn't matter in the grand scheme. I'm more interested in useful feedback than in the arbitrary rating. It would be more useful to know why they like it or not, but until I find an audience, I'm stuck with my own training and instincts as guides.

I want to grow as a writer, so I tend to write things that challenge me. Straight exposition, combined with the right kinks, seems to score well. But I already know how to write that. I want to learn deeper POV and effective motivation-reaction structure. So that's what I'm trying to work on. Maybe I'm not getting it right, or maybe my more arty style doesn't appeal to readers looking for quick stroke material. The first will improve as I integrate new skills. The second I doubt I'll change.

My only concern is that a low score impacts a small creator like me, more than an established writer with a broad reader base. I want my work to reach the right audience, and I worry that low scores out of the gate my cause them to pass over it.

Other than that, I'm just trying to be a better and more productive writer. My habit of bouncing between multiple projects doesn't help. But I'm focusing on my Summer contest story and my second entry for my new series. The second is a more straight forward short story, and in a stronger category for me. Hopefully it will be more well received.

Interesting topic. It got me curious about my own "score card" so I went to my list of stories. The lowest rating was a mother-son incest story that got a 4.30 rating. Reading it again, I realized that the problem was that the actual incest happened off-stage, which might have bothered some readers who wanted it described. And the rest of the story was mostly about the mother confiding to her best friend about her preoccupation with her son, who also happened to be the best friend's lover. So there was a lot of emotional baggage to sort out.

Curiously, the story got many good comments, probably as many as any other story I've written.

If you're curious, you can find it at https://www.literotica.com/s/hot-tub-and-forbidden-fruit

My third series, Kate's Dilemma, got about a 4.3, so I shouldn't complain. But it's now my problem child. A few comments were correct, I screwed up an otherwise fine romance and had to bring in a lesbian dalliance. The finale is in draft and yet to be published. But a recent comment asked when part 3 arrives. Publish and be damned I guess.

One of my very first stories was A Maid for Timon, a Sci-Fi/Fantasy entry for the Summer Lovin' contest, your basic boy-meets-girl-boy-loves-girl-boy-loses-girl yarn. I thought it written enough, given my inexperience with fiction, and I got a number of favourites and such but it got hammered score-wise (4.32 at last count) and really slammed in the comments because the ending wasn't happy. OK, got it. Lit tales need happy endings, apparently.
I read your comment and decided to check it out. Turns out that only 3/13 comments proved illuminating enough to give meaningful feedback; on only 1 did I feel I could prove they were overly distraught over the tragic ending. One of the remaining 2 explained why he/she felt the interloper required explaining and I fully agree: you left tons of breadcrumbs through the entire story this was going to end BADLY...but nothing explained nor hinted at why the merman acted that way and effectively condemned the village to die. Had you sufficiently explained his "why," I would have happily rated it 5.

I wanted to add to this topic but most of my low scores are pretty mediocre, so I submitted one to the LW category. 2.6!

My lowest story used to be Back to the Ex, which was in the 3-zone for a while. But it's risen with time. The lowest now is My Man and the Maid, which I'm not too surprised by. They're both very short (sub-1000 words) but I think Ex was better written. Maid had the higher score for quote a while though, probably because of the male fantasy / willing cuckquean element.

I haven't posted any LW style content, so I generally avoid the haters.

what happens when you're getting back into writing and challenge yourself to write something in two days, only for a friend to dare you to put it on literotica once you're done?

you get rose gold, sitting at a relatively miserable 4.2/15 and it's honestly wild to me that it's not graded lower.

I have three stories that were entrants into the 750-word project that are my lowest scoring works. My lowest scoring 'proper' story is called 'Trick AND Treat', which is currently on 4.41. It's probably the shortest of my normal stories and it has quite a dark tone to it. It's a daddy-daughter incest story and the daddy slaps her a few times at the start. I think that put a few people off. It turns out later on that she likes being slapped, but I think the tone of it was a bit off-putting for some, hence its lower score.

The premise of this thread is simple. Tell us about your currently lowest rated story on this site.

What score did it get? Do you think that score is justified?
Did you know/suspect that this story was going to score so low?
What is it about the story that resulted in this score?
Would you still write/post this story? Would you change anything about it?

The brave can include a link to the story and ask for feedback (and maybe a couple of consolation upvotes.)

Those whose stories are all rated Hot need not play...
My lowest-rated is an essay, but you specified story - The Fall. It's my only romance and (soon) it's likely to be one of the only stories I leave up on the site for "reasons."

I never expected it to do well. I'm not sure Romance is my forte. At 4.26, it's not a complete trainwreck. Interestingly, I actually re-wrote it a year or two ago in a chance to redeem it but I don't think anyone is likely to revisit it.

Currently my lowest rated story on LIT is 'Teaching Hubby's Mistress' chapter 8 in the category 'Loving Wives'.
https://www.literotica.com/s/teaching-hubbys-mistress

Within thirty seconds of it being published it had eight votes of '1'. There's no way anybody could even read it that fast! Within 5 minutes it had about 15 votes and a score of 1.30 ! It's currently rated just above 3. I admit the story is only average, maybe not even, but still!

If I had a few spare days I might re-write it, if I didn't have ten other ideas for new stories already. I strongly suspect 'one-bombing' by the core 'Loving Wives' writers. Stories by the 10 or 12 of them always do well, but works by anybody else get mostly 1's and 2's the first few days. I'll never post another story in that flaming turdstorm of a category again. 'Sci-Fi', 'Incest', and 'Anal' seem to like me, so I'll stick with those.

Ooh! Fun! My lowest is a 750-worder, so I'll ignore that one.

Yeah, my lowest is my sole 750 word story, which put me off 750 word stories.

The "real" lowest - "White Wedding" at 4.43. I wrote that one to push every LW button I could think of, as well as including a lot of humor, and at 30 Lit pages, it was fairly long. I think it was too long for a lot of the trolls to actually finish reading, so it actually scored way higher than I ever anticipated. Not one of my hottest stories, altho the sex is pretty good, but it was really fun to write, and I do love it. Enough that I've thought of a sequel.....

Seems risky feeding the trolls in LW (or poking them) - did you notice the rest of your catalog taking a hit because of it? I know others have reported spillover from that crowd. Hell, I've suspected it, too.

My lowest rating story is called Fishing Trip (https://literotica.com/s/fishing-trip-5). At the time of writing it has a rating of 3.85 with 13 reviews. All my other stories are 4+.

I actually think it is some of my best work.
But I made a newbie error. I posted it with a category of Lesbian Sex. While indeed at least two thirds of the story is devoted to, well, Lesbian Sex, the protagonist is my darling incest sub, Emily Miller.

The final act has Emily and her girlfriend in a threesome with Em’s Dad, who the other girl had had a crush on. Both the final and middle acts have some Fetish / BDSM elements as well.

I now realise that the last act means it’s an Incest / Taboo story. Incest trumps all other considerations round here apparently, so even if the story has only 5% incest content, it’s an Incest / Taboo story.

I think I upset some people who were expecting just lesbian action and that this is reflected in the voting. I still got quite a few 5s, but seem (based on working out how the average could be arrived at) to have got some 1s and 2s as well.

It’s clearly a Marmite work and I now realise I should have put it in a different category. You live and learn.

I posted a story last week, and someone clearly went and 1-bombed all of my stories. I’ve never seen that before. It wasn’t a post in LW, nor have I ever posted to LW.

I guess the internet has always been a tough place, but sometimes I still hope for more… perhaps naively. Hope springs eternal?
