The 10th Annual Literotica Award Nominations: Most Influential Writer

Ah, now I understand why you have so many posts (lol). We can go back and forth all day with this.

Much like a chat board, the forum boards can get a bit addictive. Only, I've always found it easier to hide myself in fiction and to wait until my characters developed enough to play with my imagination.

I don't have the social skills or the polite patience, I guess, to want to be much more than an occasional participant on these boards. I envy your people skills that you must have to amass more than 80,000 posts.

In my case, I'm easily bored and bothered by stupidity. I mean, there is stupid because they weren't educated and then there's just dumb because they're ignorant. The later bothers me more than the former. I need to be more tolerant of others, but there is just so little time. Do you know what I mean?

Please allow me to point out that it is "latter", not "later".

Now I must bid you goodnight, it is past midnight here and I need to get a few hours sleep.

À bientôt, Freddie.

Sounds like everyone is playing nice for the moment. Maybe it will be as catch-e as the flu.

Obsess much?

And from the scouries thread:

All these posts kinda remind me of the end of Batman Forever where they have Jim Carrey as the Riddler locked up at the loony bin, claiming he's Batman.

I have a long way before I catch up with you, Danielle. Your insanity is not temporary.

Funny, I do not think I'm Danielle either.:)

I dunno, you better check. Everyone around here who gets on Mr. Sarahh's last nerve gets labeled "Danielle" lately. He's a bit grumpy, understandably, since I'm pretty sure Viagra doesn't work for him anymore, and he couldn't get one of the kittens even in his best wet dreams... *shrug* Oh, and I think he ran out of fake nineteen-year-old breast pictures to give out for votes on his stories...

So don't be surprised if you're the next "Danielle" in HIS book...

I have a long way before I catch up with you. My insanity is not temporary.

It's kinda fun watching you rock back and forth in your chair, hit yourself repeatedly in the head, babble incoherently and drool.

Great entertainment, thanks.

I think Literotica should have a rule. You can't vote for anyone unless you've have stories posted and until you at least have 100 posts. This is assinine. I give up.

An author can't be nominated "Most Influential Writer" if he/she hasn't posted stories within the past year. Most of the people who've been nominated fall under one or both requirements. I think the biggest problem here is that jealousy and pettyness has reared its ugly head when it comes to a few authors here.

Authors who can't accept the fact that they haven't been nominated by the oodles of people who've put them on their favorites list. So, instead, they lash out at others, insult them, call them names and accuse them of being all the same person.

Then when they realize how childish they're being (if they ever do), it's too late, they've already made asses of themselves. Good entertainment for the rest of us, but it won't make them wonder why no one nominates them.

Agreed...

Michchick - I'm beginning to like you. I should check your stories out sometime:)

I may have to do that too. Not one for writing or reading a lot of the more romantic type stories, though have written one or two of those myself. But looks like we've got a couple of very prolific writers here that do. So may have to check those out myself!

;)

True... but I think he was talking about being able to NOMINATE someone... not those being nominated.

The thing about nominations is this - there is a link on the front page of Lit asking readers to nominate their favorites, which leads to this board. As our pal Spoutries so often spouts, many many many (in fact, truly, probably most) readers don't even know the boards exist, let alone visit them often enough to post 100 times ;) So when they are directed here through that front page link, they're often here for the first time - hence the nominations from so many board "virgins."

Are some of them alts? Probably. But I don't think all, by a long shot.

As for the idea that someone should have stories posted to be able to nominate someone, that would only hold water in the "Editor" category. A reader shouldn't have to be a writer. Most readers aren't.

Why would't it be appropriate for this category too--most influential writer? Isn't the implication here that the influential part connects with the nominator's/voters own writing and story posting here? Isn't it sort of a joke for someone without stories posted here to be commenting at all on influences on their story writing within the Lit. site context?

But I don't see where having any number of posts on the forum should be a requirement for a reader to respond to a poll of readers.

Freddie, I think you can be unforgivably offensive on the board, and you antagonize other members unnecessarily but that is your personality and shouldn’t be a factor in these nominations. Your hissy fits about Survivor are laughable, but have served to bring attention to the contest, which few other contestants have ever done.

Guys like Selena, Danielle K, Sweet Witch, the pilot and others are brilliant writers but have become less influential here as they focus their attention, quite understandably, on developing a paid writing career.

Writers like soular, sarahhh and scouries, whatever their talents, tend to stick with a style or a category that stops them being influential because they don’t reach out to the broad membership.

I also agree with you that the number of neophyte nominators is more than suspicious.

I nominate BOSTONFICTIONWRITER as the most influential writer on lit in 2008 for these reasons,

- His sheer commitment to the site, prodigious output, and ability to generate attention for literotica is amazing.

- As many other Survivor contestants before, he has posted in a wider range of categories than most lit writers.

- I don’t like his way of posting 750-word chapters, but the writing skill is evident, and I enjoy his writing when all the pieces come together.

I back you, a bit like GA, because of your commitment to literotica. If you stop posting stories here in 2009 (not as many, I hope), I will hunt you down and smother you with the blow-up doll.

I would agree that a nomination of BFW in the most influential category would be appropriate--the category doesn't say that the influence on writing is either good or bad--just that it influences writing of stories here. And BFW, as Elfin points out, certainly has been influential on writing and story posting here this year.

For good influences, I go to writers like Varian P. and Dr. M, but I don't know as they have posted much here this year--having greater opportunities now to post in e-book and print form.

No. At least how it's currently defined. Look at Laurel's first post in this thread: "In this category, please nominate the writer who affected you the most in 2008. Whose stories did you seek out and enjoy? Who made laugh/cry/etc.?"

Clearly Soular affected a lot of readers. People sought out and read Soular's stories, and they affected readers enough to come here and make a nomination.

Now, whether writers believe the criteria should be different is a whole 'nother story. ;) I know Imp's been nominated before, for her work with Coming Together alone... and I've been nominated this year for my work with eXcessica. But like Elf points out, that isn't (necessarily) directly Lit-related and certainly isn't related to stories posted by us on Lit.

Granted, I've got that "number one slot" still filled (I think?) on the "favorites" list, which could arguably fall into the "whose stories did you seek out" category in the definition. *shrug* But it's debatable.

We agree! Varian and Dr. M are superb writers but when you read the citation, both fail because their effort, reasonably, has been elsewhere. The moth song has gone. Surely we have to take this category within the confines of lit and writers, however talented, cease to be influential when they use the site as an advertising forum. No criticism intended, really.

Well, I think it ludicrous not to assume the influence is within the context of the stories posted to the Lit. site--but I find so much ludicrous about Lit. contests that this neither surprises nor particularly irritates me. :)

I think you underestimate Doc. He's written nearly as much for Lit in '08 as he wrote in '07. And he wrote far more in '07 than he wrote in '06. I know The Moth's Song was great and written in the year he was probably most active, but so is his Beyond Limits novel from this year, and there was also his Halloween Masque contribution for Halloween.

It seems your view would fall in line with the spirit of the award. ;)

See no reason to think it personally critical--I posted well over a story a week to Lit. in 2008, I'm sure (six to the Winter contest alone)--so I'm still here pretty solidly, I think.

By the way, it's 84 degrees in LA this morning and the sun is shining. Next stop Melbourne, which I hear hit 103 degrees yesterday. When I left Virginia yesterday it was all of 36 degrees. Headed for the sun.

It's two degrees here. With wind chill, it's -6.

Have fun in the sun!

Oh, man. That's just mean. It's 2 below here right now -- without the windchill. You really know how to rub salt in the wound, Pilot.

Have fun out there. :)

I don't know what to write. I'm deeply touched. I do disagree with your comment about writing 750 word chaptes. Most of everything I write is a minimum of 2,000 words. Yes, there may be a few stories less than that, but many are as much as 5,000 words, not counting those entered as novels.

How can I stop writing? I love to write and I love this site. I apologize for my behavior on the boards, but you'd understand if you read some of the e-mails and PM's that members sent me while bashing my stories. They goaded me and I took the bait. Yet, not to beat a dead horse, I'm still here. I'm still writing. Perhaps, this time next year, if I'm not found out, I'll reveal who I am. I really hate this multiple identity shit.

Only, I had no choice in the matter. Bostonfictionwriter was a poisonous personality. He needed to die.

Thank you SR71 for your back handed compliment (lol). I envy your traveling schedule, although you may think differently. Sometimes it's good just to be home.

Presently, I'm concentrating on longer pieces and less of them. Six hundred stories in a two year period is an insane output, but I did it as an apprenticeship. I'm a better writer than I was in 2007 and a better writer than I was in 2008. I did hit some homeruns with a few stories.

Thank you for your nomination. I hope that I can make you proud this year with my new personality. Perhaps, this year, I'll win a contest. Only, contests are not why I'm here. I'm here to write. I love writing the first thing in the morning and until I can't write anymore. I'm a lucky man to have found my passion. I may not be the best writer, but I'm one of the happiest and most dedicated writers here.

Thank you elfin_odalisque.

Don't get too excited - Melbourne was "cold" today - it only got to 70 degrees. It should climb to mid 90s again by mid next week though.
