The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I would SOOOO love to do this for my friend who is in rehab. He’s having a rough go at it and for the first time I’ve ever seen him, he is quite down.

The gravity of his situation I think is hitting him…

Even though he is a dog person, I would love to dump a box of cats on him to make him laugh.

I did get a couple chuckles out of him yesterday and brought him some Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.

Mission accomplished.

I decided on a test batch...
I made 8 cookies and still have a little more than half the dough left. I like smaller cookies.
I'll tweak the size and cooking time a bit but these are yummy.
Slightly crisp on the outside, soft and chewy insice... and a pleasant taste of ginger that keeps increasing and building even after the cookie is gone. 🥰
Did I mention I added more dry ginger, too? 🤭
They look flat as a pancake because the photo was taken from above, but they're thicker than they look.
I took a side view with a mustard and ketchup packet for scale.

Looks and sound delish. My mom used to make cookies with real ginger root or orange peel and stuff.

That is the first time I’ve ever seen a mustard or a ketchup packet used for scale! 😂

I went to the garage to get my pickup, it was in for some work. They had a 61 Chevy Impala on the lift. That is not real old but it was the car I learned to drive in. The garage was an older gas stattion at one time before Wawas where I spent a lot of time in my formative years. it was almost like i steped thru a time warp.
Love that!

Reminds me of where I lived in PA. It was out in farm country and sometimes the roads would get drifted shut. A couple of times they had to bring in backhoes to clear the roads. There were a couple of times we could not go anywhere for days.
We were about 100 miles north and east of you, but I certainly remember a couple of really crazy winters and crazy blizzards.

I think 77 or 78 or 79…

Then that crazy blizzard 94 or 95. 30 something inches and then it snowed another foot about two days after that.

I know, I know it’s not too bad if you live in the UP or in Alaska, but this is Jersey and PA.

It wasn't you! How is the shed doing?
Good. All closed in and the fans are on.

It’s been cold and obviously snowy now, so I’ve been stuck for a few weeks. I need to insulate the doors in the back and make sliding vents.

So pretty much 95% of the way there.

In the spring, I’m gonna wrap it in Tyvek and put siding on it. By then the cherry should be dry.

As soon as hunting season is over, I’m going to think about taking some black walnut trees down and getting them milled into 3” boards for lumber too.

There’s a place in a town near us that opened up a wood shop where you can take lessons or use their equipment. My wife is taking lessons and now suddenly I have a good outlet for selling all this nice lumber!

(as well as some friends who dabble in woodwork and one who is a cabinet maker.)

My mom took heres in a late 40 early 50 something packard....
The test was to go up this super steep hill.without stalling the car.... she was the only one in the group that could do it. She had been driving allis chalmer tractors since she was 8.... and the grain truck for just as long. the rest of the kids were city kids that had no idea
