Here's what I could find -
The quote was apparently in Season 1 Episode 5 "Beasts of Burden" of "Jay Leno's Garage" not Top Gear. There is no active, current link of that episode online that I could find.
AI gave me a summary - but it may be having a stroke
The video you are looking for is a specific segment titled "Beasts of Burden" (Episode 105) from the first season of the Jay Leno's Garage television series on CNBC.
While the Knight XV was featured in a web segment around 2011, the specific philosophical commentary you're describing about horses comes from this later TV episode. In it, Jay Leno delivers a monologue explaining that for thousands of years, horses were merely tools used for heavy labor and war. He argues that the invention of powerful mechanical "beasts" (like the Knight XV and fire trucks) performed the "burden" so well that it effectively liberated horses, allowing them to become the revered, beloved animals of sport and companionship they are today.
Best I could do was find this much watered-down quote on YouTube:
James May and Jay Leno Review "The Future of Motoring" - Top Gear Classic
Channel: Top Gear Classic
The "chat" with Jay Leno starts @ 4:30 and the quote @ 5:30
The car being discussed in this video is the Honda Clarity
I think that Jay needs to learn some real stuff about Pasture Poodles. There's a whole batch of war shit (which became dressage) which involved a warrior/knigget developing a working bond with his war poodle such that they both did fighting stuff (shit). Horses are attuned enough to seek a connection with humans when they learn to trust them. Calypso sought me out at a simpler level, and he did it because it was his idea.
And I thought large poodles were/are dumb . . . .
