The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

No heat is manageable. Cold showers are not fun. And Sunday night I begin the prep shower/cleansing for Monday's surgery. I'm already shivering just thinking of it.

Brrrrrrrr. been there on the prep shower for surgery, but never had to do it without heat. had to do it with heat but without hot water and that was not fun. good luck and I hope you have at least hot water OR heat by time for prep.

This cat is itchy. In my head it's supposed to be after one in the morning, two nights before New Years Eve, but the guy has a different idea. He brought me a toy so I'd scratch him, then writhed around on the carpet every time I stopped. There's cat fur all over. I'm going to have to vacuum in here.

I took his toy away. Maybe that will break the cycle, or maybe he'll find another.

Morning, forgoing my coffee today. At least in the morning. Just got back from a run and hydrating with old-fashioned water. How're you folks today?

Fine here, just a little distracted by. . . everything.

I changed the short description on one of my old stories in hopes it would gather more views. So far it seems to be working, but I was looking at it a bit ago and realized I missed an opportunity. It became "His sister goes to the highest bidder unless he stops it" but it could have been "his sister needs help, and then she needs discipline."

Bet the second would have worked better.

#Me, too! Oh, that movement will now come down on me, won't they?

Well, hopefully Candy is madly writing, so I'll drop off some sourdough treats from our local, recently award winning bakery.

Various fruit danishes, some bombolini, almond croissants, and some mini pizzas if you're after something savoury.

My WIP takes place over three nights and New Year's Day. The main character is a wealthy, 40-something business woman in cosmetic sales. She's more than a little self-destructive.

The threesome at the center of the story are going to party on the street on the night of the 30th (warm-up parties), and I struggled a bit to come up with her outfit. I don't know why her outfit became important to me--maybe its just for my own visualization.

I was hunting through photos online for ideas, and came up with the idea of sending her out in 1940's glam. Maybe something like this:

This doesn't fit exactly, if for no other reason than that Zelda is tanned, but I think it's a fine getup for seducing her estranged son.

Research can be fun!

Sorry, everyone. I was getting X-rays on my knee and figuring out what to do with it this morning. We're going to try a gel injection before we go to knee replacement surgery.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is warming up. I brought some chocolate fudge brownies and they're on the counter.

I did get some research and writing done today.

If I was a 20 something guy, that dress would grab my attention. Hell, it grabs mine now.

Here's the description I have now:

Zelda looked like she danced out of Vogue magazine in 1950—except for that cleavage. Her red dress swirled around her knees when she turned to smile at Alex.

I had to make up what the skirt might look like, so I made up an A-line dress because she's going to be dancing in it later.

That will be massaged, and I can add details (like gloves) as the scene goes on. The problem is to describe her with terms that might create an image for the typical male reader.

YouTube can help in a couple of categories. One of the tropes of burlesque videos (research, I swear) is vamping to a 40s vibe but updated to sensibilities of the last decade. You can also get a sense of how the fabrics flow with movement.

The other area to research is swing dance videos. The 50s are the trope there, and again, the movement of the fabric. Describing all that in words on the, well, that's the rub, ain't it?

I'll take a look at YouTube. I've seen swing dance. There was a dress style in the late 40's called the "swing dress," (lose, shirt-like top and A-line skirt) but that was daily wear, and Zelda would tend more to high fashion, since she's in a related business.

I haven't checked burlesque videos. It sounds like some more research is required.

It's National Librarian Day and I missed it?!? I could have had cupcakes at work today! Rats!
{In addition to being a good little witch, I'm also a library lady.}
I've gamed online for many years with a woman who is also a librarian. You might appreciate this:

Another chilly but sunny morning with the birds chirping and looking for food.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is hot and ready to go. There are donuts and leftover brownies on the counter.

I'll get some more writing done today. I've got a meeting with my financial advisor later today so he can tell me how he's managing my retirement fund. Next week I'll be getting the gel injection in my knee and I hope it doesn't hurt. I hate pain ...

Donuts and brownies. Hard choice. Okay... got it. Donuts for breakfast, brownies for lunch. 😁

Excuse any typos, please. Dog is taking up half of my lap with his head. He was insistent on making me leave my office chair and bring my laptop into the living room to sit on the sofa to cuddle. 80# of cuddle, but that's OK.

Speaking of "financial advisor", some of today will be spent in conversation with the mortgage manager at a local bank. We have begun the process of applying for a construction loan. Our intent is to build a modest cottage on our studio property with a caretaker apartment attached. We have two architects on retainer and hope to have construction-ready plans in a couple of weeks. The cost of building new will eventually be offset by selling the current house and the guest cottage we've been keeping as a place for our adopted son to crash when he's stateside.

Up early today. We're going to a funeral today. I have playmate whose mother died last week. He's devastated and will need emotional support. I don't mean to speak ill of the dead (she says and then speaks ill of the dead in the next sentence). His mother emotionally crippled him. A forty-nine-year-old man shouldn't still be living with his mother. The poor bastard (not a bad guy, a guy who doesn't know who his father is) has been a good friend to my partner and me. We met him last year when came to a club we frequent. (BDSM) And he was drawn to us, well me, and he has been a good sub for my little group. I hate funerals but I'm still going to this one. Why they have it so early, I haven't a fucking clue.

I survived. But man, pain is bad. And not having someone here to help me is rough. This too shall pass, I reckon.

Hang in there, Lynn. It may not be encouraging now, but I understand that recovery from hip replacement goes faster than recovery from knee replacement
