The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

And then they run away with it, and you end up with a whole language that misspells 'the' as 'het' ;)
I don't think we can blame the Dutch for all het porn on the internet...
I'll be over in the corner working on my story, trying not to check out the presents under the tree. I saw one for @Duleigh there and a couple for @Kumquatqueen so there seems to be something for everyone.
That's very kind. I look forward to virtual unwrapping. Time for some actual wrapping...

A few days ago, there was some talk about down-voting on the Romance toplists. Currently the site appears to be in a battle with someone(s) trying to keep me off the long term one. It's actually been sorta funny to follow how my vote-count will tick up and then down, inversely to my score.
They've fought the battle two or three times since October of last year.

I had a vote swept off my story, which had been knocked from the second page of the top list entirely off the bottom. My best estimate is that they swept a 5* vote and the score didn't change. Things like that are one reason I don't trust the site's sweeps. I know the story was systematically down-voted, and their sweep misses the low votes and takes a 5* instead. The 5* vote could have been fraudulent. That's not the problem. The problem is that it kept the flurry of down votes.

The sweeps are probably necessary, but they might be a necessary evil.

They need to do a better job, he said, without expectation that they would. The entire site has seen a major downward trend in rating since 2024. It's not just romance. The score of the story rated #250 site-wide in mid-'24 would be good enough for #6 all-time today.

It looks to me like someone found a way to disguise themselves and their attacks. It was probably a matter of time before that happened. I wish I understood their motivation and knew who benefited.

900 words today. Some of them outline of something important I needed to figure out before I could get much further. Then my cat decided I was no longer allowed the use of my hands.

The other night my cat decided to perch upon my arm as I typed. I still don't know how he managed to stay perched as I went back and forth between mouse and keyboard, nor do I understand how I was able to just ignore a ten pound cat sitting on my arm and glaring at me impatiently.

I had a good day writing today (about 5K, wrote most of chapter 12 of my WIP novel)

But across the end of chapter 12 and the start of chapter 13 is a brutal part for me. This is one of the saddest parts of any story that I have written. This story is unusual for me, because it's much more bittersweet than HEA. I almost always write HEA. It's also odd because this is a prequel of a story where I didn't expect to write a prequel. So I have a hard ending point, but beyond that I am pantsing the book. I know this pain has to happen, because I discuss it briefly in retrospect in the original. The good news is I wasn't sure I could make it feel realistic, but I think I did. The bad news is that makes it hurt a whole lot more.

Lordy I am tired. Concert this afternoon, but I had related responsibilities before and after that made it a long day. No more performances until mid-March. Director and I were putting our heads together about changing the venue for better logistics. I told him that I really don't mind dealing with the rental truck and loading/unloading twice, and all he could say was "Nerd!" There are no logistics with the March concert, so we don't have to finalize plans until May. Yeah, I could use a break.

Speaking of logicstics, @Rustyoznail , how's the moving going? I expect you're "there", but your stuff isn't... yet.

Working through what I still expect to be the final chapters of my big story. Next installment, the MMC drops a huge bomb on the polycule that is likely to change everybody's life, probably for the better, but you know how big changes go. WIP is momentarily stuck, but I refer y'all to the first sentence of this post. Tomorrow.

@MrPixel, we had a bit of luck. The truck turned up at 7.30am today, two days early, which was great. Got the coffee machine set up, followed by the bed and living room. Looking forward to a good night's sleep tonight - hopefully the pup's internal clock will adjust itself soon.
