the "ask crazychemgirl a question" thread

How are you? There, that way there's a question.

Going to see my favorite Lab girl this weekend. Not a chem girl, a retriever girl.

@Strixaluco i knew @stickygirl was being sarcastic with her angry emoji …. It’s all good. I understand where she’s coming from… I’m ALWAYS wary of science claims until I do some research myself … it’s the scientist in us lol

Yeah, no shit. You need to tell me what you did and how you came up with it so I can tell if I trust your thinking. I am also wary of the words "about" and "approximately" used when good data could have been used instead. "A Mopar big blocks weighs around 230 pounds." Mine weighed 231.25 pounds - exactly!!! Because I weighed it - exactly!!!

Avoid weasel thinking.

Hahaha … that’s the best kind of lab girl.

I’m good cuz it’s Friday!!

Yes it is, and a three-day weekend to boot.

Best wishes for yours!!!

How many decimals is needed to exaction? What is an acceptable error margin? As there is ALWAYS an error margin in measuring.

What about phenomena that aren't exact? I come from a field where rules of thumb are still in use, as there are too many variables that cannot be standardized. You cannot tell the flow of a river exactly, nor how much rains. Even the flow in a pipe isn't measurable that exactly, or the depth of a lake. Also human beings tend to belong to that category.

And frankly, one cannot do that "tell me what you did and how you came up with it so I can tell if I trust your thinking" in everything and every field. It isn't feasible or even possible.

Not my experience.

Perhaps your subconscious is taking revenge for making it wake up at that ungodly hour :ROFLMAO:

Don’t you HATE that??? It’s the absolute WORST!!

I think waking up without your alarm is your body being trained …

I DO know why morning bed is more comfortable than night bed … when you first wake up (from an alarm) you are disrupting your sleep cycle and so there is still melatonin coursing through your body and so when your alarm goes off that melatonin is making you feel happy, sleepy and comfortable.

Nasa sent people to the moon with approximately... or did they?! ;) ( I believe this is an appropriate emoji )
I've got a slide rule on my shelf. It's nuts! 😀

I seem to have misplaced my slide rule.

I build engines sometimes, so I get used to working with a very few thousandths of an inch. So when they give me a range for end gaps for piston rings, I make all of mine the same size. I feel better about it even if it doesn't make much difference.

I saw a comparison once of shooting a rifle and putting the bullet through the keyhole on the locomotive's door as it travels very fast at some distance very far away. And to think that our telephones are smarter than the computers that they used, So, yeah, ;).

Why does an Americano taste better in Spain than back in Alaska? Mind you, I only frequent high quality coffee shops in Alaska. There is no reason for bad coffee.

Could be the freshness of the coffee … maybe locally roasted vs roasted and packaged?

I remember a chemistry experiment to make nitric acid. The teacher 'proved' it was nitric acid by dropping in some potassium metal which 'should simply catch fire'... it exploded instead. I used to hate chemistry anyway - it always gave me a headache.
Physics was always better - we got to find out how to make a nuclear weapon.
