The Bachelor/ette's Homemaker's Lessons

Cookbooks..

I made my own. The first page is a list of all the local Take-Away places!:p

I took a small spiral bound notebook with 5 sections and whenever I find a recipe that I can pull off and I like, I add it into the appropriate section. And all the dividers have pockets, which provide nice spots to put my pizza and chinese coupons!

And speaking of recipes, (but I think it's already been posted, I'm just tired enough to not want to go back and read the thread) bdsm kitchen.

Snowy, that's a great idea for a personal cookbook! Thanks for that and the reference to the BDSM kitchen thread! And thanks, too - and a special gold star! - for being the 100th response to this thread that I thought would be lucky to get 25-30 responses! Again, thank all of you for the great ideas (and a few questions ;)).

HELP!!!

How long and at what temperature do I cook a 7.5 lb whole Grouper.

I need to know yesterday!

Now that I've stuffed it, its probably more like 8.5 or 9 pounds. I'm in way over my head here people, theres no Chilean Sea Bass hotline on Thanksgiving, I NEED HELP!!!

Thanks! I got another gold star.. short pause for the Snoopy Dance I love my cookbook.. The best part is the cheat sheet that I copied out of my mum's betty crocker book. (the loose leaf one with the checkerboard cover) It has neat stuff like how many tsps make a tsb, and grammes to cups and how many teaspoons of powdered cocoa make one block of bakers chocolate. Well, maybe that's one best part. The other best part is that EVERYTHING in there is tried-n-true. I know how to make it and I know it's good. With my marginal ability, that's a very good thing.

BAM!

Who yo daddy is?!

I gotta give a shout out to Cutie Mouse, this wouldn't have been possible without her. I hope everyone had as memorable a Thanksgiving as I did, I'm out y'all.

Sweet! Congratz, bet that tasted good. Nice save CutieMouse :)

It sure did, and it was packed with protein and omega 3 acids (I'm such a nerd).

That is one good-lookin' grouper, my man... congrats! Did ya catch it, or pick it up at the docks/market?

I wish I could say I caught it, but I picked it up at the supermarket.

I buy fish at a Caribbean supermarket. Everyone looks at me and starts speaking to me in Spanish, then I tell them I'm Haitian and they start talking in Creole, which I don't speak either.

For me, the best money I ever spent was $30 (Cdn) for an expandable clothes rack.

If you have a couple of feet of space in your laundry area, it's worth it. As you take the clothes out of the dryer, hang them up.

Broke my habit of just pulling stuff out of the dryer or piling it on top.

ROFL

Baby next time you buy a fish like that ask the butcher/fishmonger how to prepare it as you are buying it. That way you won't have a raw stuffed fish staring at you begging to be cooked and you without any ideas. ;)
cutie, you're a domestic goddess
xx

Semi-retired Domestic Goddess actually. Thanksgiving proved it-

Normal dinner (hand made by Cutie herself)

Turkey
Gravey from the drippings
Sausage and cornbread sutffing (cornbread from scratch)
Whole wheat/honey dinner rolls (again from scratch)
Sweet potato casserole (not that icky marshmallow kind either. Ew)
Shaker Cranberry relish (no canned stuff here. Again- ew)
Almond green beans
Garlic whipped potatoes
Pumpkin cheesecake
Apple cranberry crumble
ice cream

This year-

a pre-roasted chicken from the store
whipped garlic potatoes
Almond green beans
apple cranberry crumble
chocolate cake with 7 minute icing (this was completely from scratch to help with the guilt over cheating at Thanksgiving LOL)

It feels odd to not have leftovers, but it was myself, my best friend, and our 8 children who would find SOMETHING to be picky about, so we decided to relax instead of cook. :D

I'm feeling a bit like a slacker, actually. Sigh.

Slacker

:D

good lord girl if doing all that makes you feel like a slacker you'd have felt like the laziest girl alive at my thanksgiving dinner... i did nothing but eat and entertain cousins so they were out of the kitchen and not in the way.

debates pointing out that I didn't call you a slacker in hopes of getting crumbled... tries the puppy dawg eyes instead..

Bachelor cooking is a matter of attitude. If you think of it as setting fire to things and making a mess, it's fun. However, it's not so great if you think of it as dinner . . .

Nomenclature is an important part of bachelor cooking. If you call it "Italian cheese toast," it's not disgusting to have warmed-over pizza for breakfast.

Sir Winston, I want to thank you.

I've been cooking for myself since this thread got started and I'm feeling better and saving money.
