OK all. The idea of the sub/dom aspect is intriguing to me but the closest I've been is the Laurel Hamilton books. Is this a good characterization of the style? Sorry if I sound like a dork.....but in this field I probably am a dork...

I've read LKH too. Fairly good, but she sure does take her time to get to the really good stuff.

Like you my first foray into the concept of dominance and submission came from stories I've read. For me it was the Vampire Queen's servant by Joey Hill.

But to answer your question, Maryanne: as far as I've come to realize about the idea of sub/dom aspect is that its remarkably fluid and applicable to anyone. As long as there is a power dynamic at play between two or so people where one is the more dominant and the other is submissive any relationship can be labeled as sub/dom. There's no secret handshake, no membership card, no secret decoder ring involved...its whatever works for you. So yes say the merry Gentry relationship with her coterie could fit into that power dynamic, but not necessarily be as hardcore and firm within that power dynamic as Lyssa and Jacob from the Vampire Queen books.

BDSM is whatever works for the people involved in it. As long as the relationship isn't always necessarily that of equals, it could be labeled as such.
 
I am a black Caribbean man and I have actively pursed anal penetration and mild domination from females over the past ten years. While there are exceptions, going to massage parlors or Pro's it is more about "you" and your anal fetish, etc; getting that satisfied. Being submissive is not just about anal, it is submitting yourself to a Domme that you trust and can truly let yourself go in her hands. My main concern is her pleasure and satisfaction.
