The Bunny Burrow

This is slightly off topic, but I'd really like to get Mister comfortable around horses once we get back into riding. He's never been on a horse before. What's the best way, in your opinion, to do this?

Hmm. I think it's one of those things that varies, depending on the person and the horse(s). Yes, I realize that's a cop-out answer. :p

I'd just give him time and let him get to know said horse on his own. Deliver the usual "Don't get too close to their butts and don't feed fingers to the horses" line and watch and wait.

I find most people don't get weirded out grooming horses, though. Well, doing certain grooming activities, like combing manes or brushing coats. As long as you're not allergic (like me), that should be a pretty good get-to-know-you routine for both horse and Mister. You can always use that time to edumacate him more about the ponies.

That's funny... as I was reading sd's inquiry, I was thinking the same thing you said above, and remembering the last time I did any real riding, in the Philippines in 1969. I picked out a middle-aged gelding, and asked the groom (to find out later he was the head boy) for a curry, brushes and a mane comb. He looked at me and said, "Our horses aweddy cwean," and I just smiled; he got them. When I spent most of the two hours I'd paid for currying, brushing and combing the horse, all the while talking to him, then just walked around the corral with him on lead until my time was up.
The next day, I did the same, but after he had been groomed, saddled him and then walked the corral with him on lead. The third day, I spent only about half an hour grooming him, saddled him, and then rode him in the corral for about half an hour, unsaddled and briefly washed and groomed him again. The fourth day, I came in at the usual time to find the groom just finishing up "my" gelding's grooming with blanket and saddle nearby. "He weddy fo' you," he said with a big smile, and helped me saddle him. For the first time, he and I actually got out on the trail. We had a great time. I kept an eye on the time, and was back to the stable in time for a brief washdown and grooming.

When I was setting my appointment for the next day, the groom came in and told the receptionist I was only to pay $2 for any future appointments; the normal fee was $5. (Remember, this *was* 1969, and the Philippines!) He walked me out to the bus stop, said goodbye and turned to walk away, then he stopped after a couple of steps, looked over his shoulder and said, "More should be like you, *care* for animals. They people, too." Then he continued back to his work. I was a bit embarrassed, really; it was just what I'd been taught - let the animal get to know me, and know that I wanted him to feel good. <Shrug> For three weeks, until I was shipped out, I rode every day, and I swear that gelding liked me...

I miss riding, but my back simply won't take it. It's been messed up too much, and the strain that even an hour's riding would put on it would put me in bed for days. <Sigh> Getting old sucks, ya know? It's not for the weak of heart.

Well, I'm just saying that most people I know and have talked to haven't found their equine science degrees very useful, they've found practical experience much cheaper and more useful. Obviously your mileage varies, good luck in your future endeavors.

Ok, I went on this rant recently in another thread, but now I have to do it again here because it annoys me.

I don't give a shit about your online relationship because it is not, in any way, relevant to anything I think, do, or feel.

There, I said it. Stone me. I don't give a fuck. I just really wish we could have some worthwhile discussion around here again. :(

Bunny (and other people who want to put their in put in) what does it feel like to have cupping done? Because it looks really cool. Just wondering.

It felt good, just different from other things I'd ever done. I'm just really weird about things touching my back, so I was a little more uneasy than I should've been. I'd like to have it done somewhere else one day to see what that's like. :)

Honestly? Boring. It was soothing but not a maso's fantasy. Good in like a massage way.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOh. I like!!!! When I got mine cut at the beginning of July I wanted to go short but was afraid to go shorter than what I did. (Bad experience with it going back in when I was younger.)

Seriously, it is too cute.

Aww...yay! Thank you!:kiss::heart:

I LOVE IT!

You are definitely one of those people who are meant to have short hair.

<<<<<<<jealous

The back was done very well, and I like the bits of curls. :D

And I think the second picture is just wonderful. You're smile fits the playfulness of the hair cut, and it frames your face very well, even though it's short. I like it a lot. :) *three thumbs up*

Aww...thank you so much! I have naturally curly hair, so I don't have to do much to the back. That was a great response from a man too! Most guys just grunt yeah ok nice. :D

Wanna know what's funny? That was actually my second hair cut for the day. I got it cut at one place and Master hated it. He told me I looked like an old lady, and had a cut like his mom's.

So I went to a second place and had it fixed. So two places and over $60 in all.

Curly hair is so cool. When I had really long hair it used t be wavy. But that was the mix I got from my mom's super straight and my dad's curly fro.

And thanks, I guess. Hehe. If you want I could grunt also?

No it was great! Master articulates very well for the male species too. But, it's a rare trait I think. Or at least where I'm at. It's refreshing!

Well, if you're looking for a translator for the rest of the grunting, yelling, and shrieking specimens of the male species, I'd be happy to help. :)

To me, if you aren't going to articulate what you like about something if someone asks your opinion, why bother looking to begin with. So I just said what I felt.

Glad it was a bit of a refresher though. :D
