The Clinic ~ Ask me anything, I'm a nurse.

This is a brilliant thread, fuckmeat.

My question is about menopause. I saw that there are some general snippets in the Women's Health link you provided, and they were somewhat helpful. My partner, although younger than 50 raises the topic of menopause more often these days when her sex drive is waning, which is not always but more often (although she has been making some big career changes over the last year and is understandably a bit more stressed). She has said on more than one occasion that her mother had a really difficult time with menopause and went through it fairly young. She seemed worried each time she said this, which just increases my apprehension.

I am going through these misgivings that our sex might disappear for a while or even diminish more permanently. Could be just a stupid worry on my part, but does the sexual appetite generally return even if it varies noticeably for a while? How unusual are the exceptions when it does not? Just feel like I don't know what to expect.

It sounds to me like her low sex drive is more likely to be due to stress and worry about the menopause than anything else. If her periods are still regular and she has no other women's health symptoms, there's no reason to assume she's having an early menopause. It might help her to go to the doctor and have a blood test to check her sex hormone levels, to confirm to her that at present, everything's fine.

It's also important to keep in mind that unless there's a strong trait through multiple generations of the family, there's no reason to assume that your wife's menopause will be early or problematic.

As a nurse, how did you feel when you see a penis which was not attached to your boyfriend?

Firstly, you're making assumptions there. I'm bisexual and my last long term relationship was with a woman.

To be honest, as I very rarely saw an erect penis, it bothered me less than Lit's plethora of cock avatars do. It's just a body part. I wasn't phased by tits, asses or vaginas either. People are people and they all have basically the same kit.

I don't work in a field where I deal with it any more but I did used to wince internally when catheterising male patients. We use lubricant that numbs the urethra but no matter how much care you take, it's always a painful experience for the guy. The worst were elderly men with dementia, who could not comprehend why I was violating and hurting them. Sometimes if a guy with dementia had been unable to urinate for some time he would be distressed and in acute pain. Staff would basically have to sit on the guy to get him catheterised. Not fun at all.

Thanks for this - she does not have any other health issues as far as we know...and that sounds like a reassuring way to go about it, testing levels. The less worrying the better. You are very generous with your expertise, I appreciate it.

Where does it go?

Here is a question I have wondered for a long time and this seems just the place to ask it...

When I masturbate, I have learned or discovered over the years that I am able to have a full-on orgasm without actually ejaculating everywhere. The (ejaculate) is still there, I can feel it rise, but with continuous "squeezing" or "clenching" motions I can keep it from "exiting".

So where does it end up in that situation? Is there any medical harm in doing that? I prefer to let it shoot out anyway, but there are those times where ya just don't wanna get outta bed and clean-up.

Any idea? Thanks!

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I went to the clinic today and in the end, you were right. It's asthma triggered by allergies. Fuck!!!!! I got the pumps and everything. The whole shabang!

I forgot to ask my doctor a question, though, so I was hoping maybe you could answer me: Because it's triggered by allergies, does this mean that every allergy season I'll get asthma, or does it mean that it may disappear for 4 years just like it may stick around for 6 months?

A fellow nurse pm'd me with this insight Mac.

I didn't want to hijack your thread, but the gentleman with the new onset "asthma" may be having an allergic reaction to the Allegra he said he had been taking. It is one of the side effects we have seen in some patients. Some marijuana that is grown in uncultivated areas can have pollen/pieces of weeds thrown in. We saw one instance where the patient had been sold a bag of "shake", (The non-bud leaves and such) that actually had bits of poison sumac included.

So those are both things to think about.

You asthma is unlikely to vanish for years at a time. If you're prone to allergies, how much you suffer really depends on how much you investigate what sets you off. As I said before, pollen can be one trigger but there are many others around the home and in foodstuffs. I know one person who swears that cutting out processed foods and dairy cured her chronic rhinitis. It's easy to get paranoid and look for triggers where there aren't any but at the same time, pollen is unlikely to be the only thing that sets you off. I don't know when your hayfever season is or how long it should last but if you have problems outside of that period, then pollen is not your only trigger.

Not true. I've had a urethral endoscopy and it wasn't even uncomfortable. Having a cell sample taken for and STD check is uncomfortable (despite all the "umbrella" stories being apocryphal) but not painful.

Well that's good to know. What kind of local anaesthetic did they use on you?

I wasn't aware of any. That said I assume they must have applied some lubricating gel to the endoscope and that could well have had anaesthetising properties.
(As someone who is a little kinky, I was slightly disappointed not to feel anything.)

My guess is that for an endoscopy something stronger and longer lasting would have been used, compared with a catheter insertion, which only takes a minute. That's about my best guess, because I never saw a catheterisation that was comfortable for the patient.

I had samples taken from the urethra for prostatitis. Man was that painful .... the doctor used what felt like three wire brushes (looked like mini bottle brushes with spiral nylon bristles)! His gorgeous nurse rolled her eyes when he said "the first time is the worst" then proceeded to do the second and third ones .... and repeated after peeing yeeeeooooooowwww! (All initial fantasy thoughts involving the nurse fell by the wayside)

Is this O.K.?

I have made an anal toy out of hard maple. It is finished with Tung Oil and Spar Varnish. I use vaselin and/or mineral oil as a lubricant. Is there anything especially dangerous in what I am doing or can I continue to slip and slide away? Thanks for any info you may have. This is a tremendous thread and a big help I am sure.

Thanks for that! Truely appreciated, though I don't think it would be an allergic reaction to the Allegra 'cause I started taking it after my lung problems were full blown and present, though I can't say the Allegra helped more than the reactine I took this morning did.

Hayfever has started about a few weeks ago, if I'm not mistaken, around here... So I guess it makes sense that this is an allergic reaction.

As far as the marijuana is concerned, that's definately a great hypothesis! I hadn't thought of that at all. It's unfortunate, though, cause it's really, REALLY good quality pot. I know I sound like a little pothead saying this, but I'll see if maybe a different stash'll be better... cuz I started getting this about the same time as I started smoking the stash of weed... although I haven't smoked in over a week (or just about) and it's still present... but definately something I'll be checking out.

Thanks a lot for all the help, fuckmeat. Really appreciated!

The pro wood toymakers use food-grade urethane as a protective coating, so you might want to try that to avoid problems with toxins.

If you like the slickness of those petroleum products, try silicone lube or a natural oil (olive and coconut are good choices). Putting refined petroleum in your body isn't really the wisest idea for a variety of reasons, so you may want to stick with things that are inert or actually good for you.

Orgasms after giving blood

I started a thread on this subject, but then realized that this might be the better thread to discuss this (the medical part, anyway).

I've noticed that after I give blood (platelets, actually), the orgasm that follows is usually much more intense than usual. And, no, I don't get it in the chair itself, but home afterwards.

I don't know if it's the effect of the anti-coagulants they use, or if it's the drop in body fluid levels. The cum is more intense, but I often don't even get completely hard.

Has anybody else noticed it? Anybody have a theory about why this happens?

Since then, nobody else has responded that they themselves had this experience. Either I'm unique, or I'm the only one on this forum who donates platelets.

But somebody speculated that lower blood level equals less oxygen-carrying capacity, therefore the same sort of phenomenon as asphyxiation-enhanced orgasms. Could be?

Speaking of catheter, I know how terrible it is: I used to have a surgery on one of ears, I didn't know why they put the catheter to me and why they didn't do it after I was anaesthetized.
2 hours before the surgery, a nurse, actually a beautiful nurse took me to a room and asked me to take off my pants, I had no idea what would happen, but when she took out the long needle (I knew it was catheter later on), I realized it would be a trouble for me.
It took the nurse a little while to get it done, I felt so uncomfortable and also embarrassed. It was quite different from being naked when I was in a hotel with a beautiful girl.

Hi Jehoram

I can't donate myself due to the meds I'm on so I don't have first hand experience of this. If you can't get fully hard I would assume that your blood pressure is affected. After you donate platelets your blood will be less dilute, but this should only be by about 10 or 15% so it surprises me that it affects you that much. The red blood cells carry oxygen so if you experience this most after platelet donation that's also interesting as your red cell count shouldn't be affected. Anti-coagulents will thin the blood but they won't affect the overall volume in the veins so I'm still inclined to think your BP is the factor here.

Sorry I can't offer more insight.

Looks like my question got ignored... :(

Please give fuckmeat a little time. Would you rather have a fast answer, off the top of her head, or a well-researched answer a few days later?

Of course, she doesn't necessarily have to answer every question, but I assume that she'd have the decency to tell you that you'd best look elsewhere.

Yeah, it's funny how many people are quick to look a gifthorse in the mouth around here.

The sense of entitlement some have never ceases to amaze me.

Sorry Tony, I confess I forgot about your post. I meant to give it some thought and then it slipped my mind.

So, according to my research, (online, before anybody casts aspersions!) human semen is a carefully blended cocktail. Here's some trivia for you.

70% is fluid from the prostate's seminal vesicles, containing seminal plasma, protein and vit C, which are the main sources of nutrients for sperm cells. It also contains prostaglandins which are involved in preventing an immune response for the recipient female (assuming you swing that way) that could otherwise thwart procreation.

25% is secreted by seminal vesicles attached to the prostate, this contains zinc, to stabilise the DNA within sperm cells. It also balances the pH of semen, 7.2-8 if you're interested.

1% is a mucus that facilitates movement of seminal fluid.

2-4% consists of the sperm cells themselves, which is the portion that comes from your testes.

You risk causing the same symptoms that orgasm denial can cause, by which I mean the denial of an orgasm at the last minute, either by interruption or to tease a guy. The technical term for that is epididymal hypertension. The unused semen is broken down and re-absorbed by the body but until that happens congestion occurs in the epididymis, a coil like tube along the top of each testicle, where your matured sperm sit to await their destiny.

As to the long term risks, I really couldn't say. It's doesn't sound like something you do all that often and presumably you've had no side effects of any kind so far. If there's a strong history of prostate trouble in your family you might want to consider not taking the risk of mistreating it. Other than that though, if kinky people are capable of shoving sounding rods up themselves without wreaking too much havoc, I'm sure your pipework can cope with the occasional bit of left over ejaculate. There's about a foot of plumbing from the tip of a man's penis to his prostate, which should provide plenty of opportunity for re-absorption before it backs up as far as your prostate, which sits beneath the neck of your bladder.

Hope that helps.

Seriously what is the word on PMS? I am wrecked!

Not to trivialize your answer but the first thought that hit me was "Damn, sperm really is nutritious"...lol

We now return you to your regularly scheduled broadcast. Great thread idea fm, keep up the good work. :rose:
