The Cozy Corner

Okay... QQ for all of you from the US.
Do you understand each other easily regardless of state/region accents?

Asking as in the UK dialects can be really broad. Have a hard time understanding my Scottish cousins sometimes.
Most I can, but really thick southern/Texan accents I can struggle with. I remember having to turn on subtitles to watch No Country for Old Men because of the Texan accents!

It really depends but most of the time I can understand all regions and that’s probably because of the movies.

When I went to Birmingham England, I had a real hard time understanding some of what they were saying! I mean, were they really speaking English? 😳

I have never had an issue. Even if the dialect may be a little difficult, you can usually fill the gaps with the context of the conversation.

Also, where I live, there are lots of people that weren’t originally from around here. Lots of people who move from the north east so I’m subjected to lots of different accents.

For the most part i can, i have met a few Bostonians that i had a very difficult time with. But they sure made the conversation fun.

Had to try hard to not make it seem like i was laughing at them… but to my ears the word Butt is heard far more often that then word (which i can not remember it was supposed to be) actually being referenced.
