The Cozy Corner

But they don’t naturally have stereotypical Boston accents! I even said I couldn’t do a convincing one & I’m from here, too!
As linguist, I'm actually kinda fascinated by this. Is it because you didn't grew up in a language community with a strong typical Bostonian accent? Is it the way you learned English at school? I think in the age of the Internet, these regional accents are receding anyway because of how much online accents are affecting and morphing our speech.

It's fascinating to hear American kids get Bluey accents when a lot of Australian kids growing up in the early 2000s were mocked or complained about because they watched too much US TV and sounded all valley girl (Gilmore Girls, Beverly Hill, 90210 etc.).

No, most of my family, aside from my sister, who are from MA have pretty strong Boston accents. But I say my sister and I didn’t pick it up because our cousins from Virginia used to make us say things in a Boston accent for them (we were the youngest out of 13 cousins) and we rebelled. Idk if that’s actually true, but it’s my reason 🤣

And now where’s your contribution to the Cozy Corner vocaroo challenge? We need a Scottish accent in the mix!
Aww, I’ll admit I wasn’t hugely au fait with the challenge, I’ll do some reading up now! But unlikely to contribute imminently I’m afraid; it’s 11.30pm and I’d likely wake up my brother (I’m at his flat) next door! Soon, though :)

Don't pretend the C word doesn't drip off the tongue in Oz!
I know it's as commonplace as it is here.

I mean the swearword.
Well, I guess the other is true too... but sssshhh Eyes
Hahaha. It was the first time I swore this week. I'm not a vulgar person so the 'c' word isn't used in my household that often. But yes, a few of my mates would use it but mostly in an ironic or mocking way. The word actually felt really funny in my mouth when I said it. Such is the power of speech. 😅

It is a word that is hard for me to use as well, because it is used so differently here in the US. I don't think I am incorrect in saying for the longest time, it was the worst thing you could say about, or to a woman.

About anyone... Calling anyone a 'c' word is only reserved for the worst offenders. Some Aussies use it as a term of affection among friends but that's not my social circle.
