My little family unit usually spends part of the summer hunting for Monarch caterpillars, then we raise them into butterflies and release them. It's fun for the kiddo to see the process.

This year apparently the weather was so off in TX and Mexico that the milkweed plants the butterflies needed to lay eggs wasn't grown and nearly a whole generation of butterflies has been lost. We're usually overrun with them this time of year, and I've seen maybe two.

So it was nice to see one, even in gif.

(And there's your bit of lepidoptery for the day. )
