Scott sat quietly for a long time, feeling the warmth of his sister's body close to his, drawing some semblance of comfort from her. When he finally did pull himself from her embrace, he stood and took a deep breath, resolving himself to what needed to be done. He glanced down at Krys and saw the concern on her face. He smiled weakly.
"I'll be back in a few minutes," he assured her before heading off down the beach under the overcast sky.
Scott soon found what he was looking for, several pieces of jagged metal that washed up on the shore. Choosing one that he could grip firmly with both hands, Scott made his way back to the campsite. Without a word, he walked about a dozen paces into the jungle, stopping in a small clear area about ten feet across. Dropping to his knees, Scott began digging the jagged piece of metal into the soft ground.
With only the piece of wreckage to work with, it took him nearly half of the day to dig a grave deep enough to accommodate the man. Once he was finished, Scott carried the man's body from the campsite and gently rolled him down into the grave. He paused for a few moments over the man's body, sweat and dirt covering his body as he bowed his head in a silent prayer.
After another hour spent pushing dirt back down into the grave, and covering the man's body, Scott was exhausted. He was caked in dirt, his hands, his legs, his chest. Sweat dripped from his forehead. Forcing himself to his feet, Scott turned to Krys who stood nearby. "I think I'm going to walk to the lake so I can clean up. Do you want to go with me?"
